PrincessFiona
- Location
- United Kingdom
- Title
- Chief Executive Ogre. (Shrek got to be Chairman so I can sit on his knee at board meetings)
- Company
- Everybody is very welcome ... except for that Donkey
- Bio
- ... I had assumed that the gentle readers of OS already knew that Princess Fiona is married to Shrek- or that my avatar might at least be a give-away. (For anyone who is still confused, that's me on the right).
I was wrong, so to clarify, I am a full-time ogre and after a few initial identity issues, I have been happily married to Shrek for some time. We divide our time between the Swamp and Far Far Away.

What it is to be human: Brian Keenan and John McCarthy
Every month or so I receive a newsletter by email from someone because I once did a bit of business with the company he works for. I got one today. This guy is called John McCarthy. Whenever I see Mr M's latest communication in my Inbox it makes me sm… Read full post »
How to be British, part 2: Be a bit of a character
.... this is partly an experiment in using the embedding feature.
Beth suggested I post some footage of Barbara Windsor and Red Rum, both of whom appeared in my last post.
In fact, they are both great examples of Rule 2 in the unwritten "How to be British" manual. You've got… Read full post »
How to be British, part 1: love Dizzee Rascal
A couple of days ago my daughter told me that she really liked Lily Allen and Dizzee Rascal because their lyrics were "really funny in a typically British kind of way."
I'm not a big fan of our Lily, so we'll draw a veil over that, but I immediately got what… Read full post »
Oranges are not the only fruit: a Prop 8 story
Last night a gay man cried in my arms about Prop 8.
"Well surely that's no surprise, you being an OS reader and all ...."
In fact, it wasn't what I expected at all when I left the house. I'm straight and I lead a very conventional life as a… Read full post »
Freud slips past Aunty Beeb (with apologies to Gary Justis)
Gary Justis' beautiful and evocative post about his childhood and his aside about teenage swearing reminded me of a newspaper article which I read a while back.
(Gary's post was poetic and visually gorgeous so I'm ashamed that this is where it has lead my mind)
Men with great legs: response to Jane Smithie
.... I'm in a silly mood and I just laughed myself even sillier reading Jane Smithie's wonderful post about retro men's fashions.
It got me feeling all nostalgic about the short-shorts of my mis-spent youth and the men with great legs who wore them.
Here are two of my personal favorites… Read full post »
No, it's me, really it is
I'm re-thinking.
A few days ago I posted a piece called "The Accidental Tourist" which was a review of the 1980s Lawrence Kasdan film of that name. The film had affected me deeply when I saw it for the first time ten days or so back.
I have thought more… Read full post »
