I'm a regular middle aged guy, living in a regular middle class neighborhood, in a regular middle-sized community in the middle of America. I am an expatriate Texan transplanted to the Midwest, and wondering how I got here, and where I'm headed.

Pieces of America

Rate: 46 Flag

In answer to the Open Call for pictures of America, I am offering a few that I have taken through the years.  I have also posted some additional thoughts in honor of our nation's birthday here.

I have visited 44 of our nation's 50 states.  For some reason, however, my  photos, at least the good ones, are limited to about six or seven of them.

Steve, you have covered a lot of territory over the years and this is a great collection of the many beautiful sites and events in this country!
Wow. This was wonderful. You are well-traveled.
A great collection of Americana!
This was definitly a labor of love and I thank you for going to the trouble of sharing all these beautiful pictures with us. Those shots of Texas actually made me a bit homesick.
John, as I browsed my photos, I just kept wishing I had taken more!

D'Art & Owl, thank you. There's a lot left to see!

Susan, thank you, but your collection was something special, indeed.

Torman, I'm homesick, too.
Thanks Steve..the picture of Northern Texas in the Spring is a knockout!
Great pics! Rated!
This is America the Beautiful, indeed! Nice going, as usual.
Your view of America is even better than I imagined. Wow.
That's some fine (photo) shooting there, Tex.
Gary, thanks. Photos don't do it justice, at least not during one of the good wildflower years.

redwillet, thanks...glad you stopped by!

Lea, thanks to you, too. Your travels put mine to shame!

Sally, I can't match yours for sheer humanity.

Stim, I hope I wasn't too Tex-centric!
very nicely done, procopius! i especially like the magical quality of the lake superior viewpoint of Chicago. cool post.
dianaani, it was a perfect day to be on the lake off the Chicago shore. Other than the wake of the boat, the water was nearly as still as glass.

lefty, glad you stopped by!
Most excellent photos look so easy. If I posted any of mine, you would see how hard it is.
Miss Blurry.
Wonderful pictures--love the flower field of north Texas.
I love your photos for their sheer and wonderful variety of places, seasons and subject matter. Great job!

Christine, my photos are plenty blurry. But thanks for the kind words!

Shiral, thank you. There is so much more I wish I had photographed!
Ooh, these are wonderful, Steve. I especially like the one peering into the Grand Canyon. Thanks for the visual treat! Happy Fourth!
Really wonderful photos, and a great cross-country trip for a Saturday afternoon. I, too, especially enjoyed the photos of Texas made me homesick too. Thanks for the terrific post.
Deborah, it is scary to peer a few thousand feet into the canyon without any railing on the rim!

Delia, I'm happy you came along for the tour!
Your pictures totally rock. (Even though the Taos pic looked like it was shot on a soundstage in Hollywood.)

Thanks for sharing. So rated!
How lucky are we???!! Loved this! Brings back memories of so many places I've visited right here in my own country!
These are great!

Did you get to see the bunker at the Greenbrier?

Steve, you have a great eye. R
Steve! I have so little to contribute as far as photos go, nine are all snapshots... nothing digital. The time it would take to scan them in....uuuugggg I won't even contemplate. Are all your great pix digital? I imagine it's taken some bit of time to do all the traveling, and your photos probably go back to pre-digital. What's your secret?
What a visual treat this was, thank you ! Some of your photos are like paintings by themselves. They show me places I've never been to. I'm off to read the link now. ~~R
Nice: Forget the quality: the variety is what makes this truly a slice of Americana and therefore wonderful and well-considered.
Folks, thank you for all your kind words!

Gabby, in answer to your question, these photos are all scanned snapshots. In using the scanner, I lose a little bit of the crispness of the photo, but in some cases that works out nicely, giving the picture a slightly impressionistic feel.
What a great sampling of the wide-open spaces of America, Steve. My favorite is the slightly surreal Chicago skyline; 1987 looks as if it could be 2087.
great job, i really enjoyed the rural scenes~rrrrrr
You've certainly been around! wonderful
Great photo's, Steve. Thanks for sharing your America with us.
Love the one of the kids peering over the edge of the GCanyon...that's enough to give any mom a heart attack. I'm up to 39 states now at last count and hope to see more. This is truly a wonderful country.
These are GREAT!!!! I've actually been to a few of these places, but I never shot pictures as great as these. Thanks! And congrats on your cover!
I grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. Your bluebonnets bring back great memories. This is, indeed, a beautiful country. Thanks for the photos. (And thanks for including Oklahoma!)
Steve Blevins, the bluebonnet and paintbrush photo was taken just a little past Granbury, along Hwy 377, probably about 45 miles southwest of Ft. Worth. And I just had to stop and take pictures of those longhorns in that pretty Oklahoma pasture!
Loved your pics from around the country.
Procopius, I enjoyed this very much.

My faves are The Northern Wisconsin cross country skiing one & the kids laying over the edge of the canyon. The latter takes very brave parents!
Great collection. Gorgeous scenes.
Great pictures, all, but my favorite is the confluence of the Ohio with the Mississippi: perfect execution!
Always look forward to your POV, Procopius. Lovely photos.
Thanks again for everyone who came by and took the time to comment on my views of America. I've been too busy to comment to each of your posts, but I do appreciate that you stopped by. I hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend!
I'm late to the party, but so glad I stopped for a visit. These pictures and your travels are wonderful. Love Chicago from Lake Michigan, and enjoyed the rural post office.
Kris, better late than never! Glad you stopped by.
I'm surprised that since I've been to so many of the same places that we didn't actually bump into each other and fall down. Beautiful post friend.
Barry, maybe we'll run into one another on my next trip to the great southwest.
