GOP sweep: Big governor victories in Virginia, NJ (AP)

Republican Governor-elect Bob McDonnell waves to the crowd at his victory party in Richmond, Va., Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009. Unofficial results showed McDonnell, a conservative and former state attorney general, with about 60 percent of the vote over Democrat R. Creigh Deeds. He will be the state's first Republican governor in eight years. (AP Photo/Steve Helber)AP - Independents who swept Barack Obama to a historic 2008 victory broke big for Republicans on Tuesday as the GOP wrested political control from Democrats in Virginia and New Jersey, a troubling sign for the president and his party heading into an important midterm election year.

 Rejoinder to:

OBAMA IS NO FDR; SO THE HONEYMOON IS OVER!

The lament of one frustrated Progressive, Pete Bagnolo, who as a college student, worked to recruit blacks, Spanish Speaking people and women into his grandfather's labor union, once again called election results month’s, and in even greater detail, weeks in advance.

In a recent interview for a new book, Bagnolo said, "Two states which had been Democratic have been lost because Obama has not kept his word. He ignored using Executive Orders to shame congress into acting, and he ignored the rise in gas prices from December 2008's $1.44 a gallon, to more than $3.00 and those were the least of the things he could have, buy did not even attempt to do. He ignored the Bill of Rights Wrecking Military Commissions Act of 2006 and the Constitution demolishing Patriot Act completely, instead of leading the charge to repeal those two freedom stripping, undemocratic Bills and he expanded the war in Afghanistan and has not yet gotten out of Iraq.

Pete went on to say, "It ain't just me, 'I just calls 'em as I sees 'em.' When God speaks, I listen, while other's cry' "have patience," I say, 'watch what is not being said and what is not being done."

"I saw it as clearly as I saw the market crash a year ahead of time in detail, clear as on an LED TV. The trend will continue until Obama either obeys the plea of the people or ends up as Obama The One Term President, who promised so much and accomplished so little."

"Am I sorry that I voted for him? No, because I believe that McCain/Palin would have been aggressively worse, and I would have complained more loudly about that as I did when Bush was president, but I would have preferred, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, or Elliot Spitzer. The first two were told they were unelectable and Spitzer, apparently needed commercialized sex more than the presidency. We have no relief from either party, so I am off to become an Independent."

Italy Convicts 23 Americans in Renditions Trial

Twenty-three people, all but one of them American officials
accused of being C.I.A. agents, were convicted on Wednesday
in a landmark case involving the seizure of a Muslim cleric
from the streets of Milan more than six years ago. But three
of the higher-ranking Americans defendants were given
diplomatic immunity, as were the two highest-ranking Italian
defendants.

The two party system has failed us miserably, in my view. Divisivness never strenthened any country. I am with you. Party affiliation be gone!
Obama will be our only black President. And he may as well be the last Democratic President, if Democrats are going to act like Republicans.

Perhaps a system where citizens/taxpayers/serfs dictate what they want changed, something that cannot be ignored. Something like GTFO OF IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN, ALREADY since recent elections results seem to be lost on all politicians. STOP EXPORTING JOBS or, better, STOP GIVING TAX BREAKS TO CORPORATIONS FOR EXPORTING JOBS. People are genuinely pissed off these days. Why not form a viable third party? The No-Bullshit Party.
Yes, indeed Cathy, it has.

Deborah young, it sure is the truth thanks for dropping by.

Gordon Wagner, I love your new party name, The NBP! The No-Bullshit Party! Great New Party Name!!!!
hopefully, this is just a local issue thing
Obama is better than the other side
I think the worst part of the losses in NJ and VA is that Obama visited there and supported the losing candidates, and thus loses further credibility with those up for election in the Fall of 2010. He may turn out to be like Bush when those running for election to the House and Senate invited him to stay away from their state.

I never thought that the unpopular incumbent in NJ had a chance and thought that the Republican suburban voters around DC would go back to their conservative ways after voting for Obama in the Presidential election. In general "Independents" are pretty conservative, to say nothing about fickle.

What the Republicans need to be given credit for is wrapping the Bush recession around Obama's shoulders. And they had help from Obama as he gave away the chicken house to the same foxes who had been raiding it to start with. It just pisses people off to see the government not "change" but to hand over most of the $800 billion TARP funds to Wall Street, agree to turn the Fed into a candy store for the greedy and spend very little on quick job creation.

Obama made that bed himself and so it was easy to get the people to believe that he is no different than the Bushies. It is particularly easy when if you look objectively at what Obama has not done as well as what he has done, well, he DOES look just like Bush.

Once again Monte. you are right on target. Your experience in Washington, like mine as a political consultant adviser to Liberal Democrats shows us the early warning signs very clearly.

Kathy Knechtges, no, Kathy it is not just a local thing. It is a portent of more to come even many black news papers are angry with Obama and by the way He campaigned for the two losers.
Well at least Italy is paying attention and wanting to indict war criminals.

Scary results. Need to read more. am glad there is someone looking out for the those who need help the most. I am still hoping...against hope..............
I guess that it was a sweep if you don't count NY23.
It could very well be Hillary's campaign criticism of him was true. Speeches are not as good as experience and action. And he seems complacent. Like getting there was the whole game. Yes he made history for the color of his skin. Now how about for getting legislation passed his supporters want and the general public is ready to back? It's like his goal was just getting elected president.
It's all really pretty discouraging isn't it? Discouraging enough to be overwhelming. And right now, I think I need to take a break away from the news. There's a sunrise to watch and the faces of my daughters to soak in. I always appreciate your passion Pete.
Loreville Redencocker:
In my first article on B-O's a few weeks back, I said pretty much the same thing, the whole thing was simply getting there. In the midst of his campaign for nomination, I posted that though I would vote for either of the Dems who won nomination, my encounters with his staff told me that this was all about celebrity, and dynastic wealth as a political Royal Family. I stand by that assessment which is close to yours. As you have probably guessed by now, this is not a very strong site for politics, it is basically a site for levity, frivolous pursuits, women's subjects and I think you can easily tell by what gets headlined often here. I write articles here that get meager response, and few headlines except for my memoirs of childhood things, and then I republish elsewhere and huge response with headlines aplenty and often Grudge reports or mention on TV talk shows, so go figure. What I do now is test run my ideas and then sharpen them to send elsewhere.
I'm bailing out of any party if the Democrats don't step up and soon.
I live in New Jersey, and I don't think the governor's election really had anything to do with a rejection of Obama's presidency.

New Jersey simply needed some new blood, and Corzine was just such a dud.

In other words, I'm still all for Obama, but I support Christie's election here in NJ. I still say Obama needs some more time! The democratic process is a slow one.

When the going got tough for Bill Clinton and health care, he simply dropped the ball and the issue was over. But Obama is still digging his heels in. And the issues overseas are just so complex thanks to Bush inserting us into these quagmires. They can't end overnight without serious repercussions.

The one serious mistake Obama made was CAMPAIGNING for Corzine. It did indeed make him (Obama) look like a loser.

Hopefully, this too shall pass. :)
