Bio
I'm a working wife and mother whose 50th birthday resolution is to develop a life - friends, a book club, a voice... I've loved writing all my life and I've loved talking all my life - it's the convergence of these two modes that's been difficult! But I'm working on it... All posts copyright Agalma 2009. Not grumbling just moaning

Rate: 9 Flag

I ache,

knocking back

Diclofenac

on the flat of my back.

I creak and

cringe and

crack

my back

each time I turn

I want to weep

I cannot sleep

instead

I eat.

I shall become

Jabba the Hut

 on wheels.

I shall take up yoga

exercise properly

fly

on wings of a magnificent gym-body

rise again

leotard-leaping

My crack

thong-wearing

My back

load-bearing

Once more.

I shall away and go now

and go to

Venice Beach

oiled and gleaming

hoisted and screaming

hard-boarded

among the

hard-bodied.

Perhaps I might surf?

Would that be

feasible

for one

as invalided as I?

Perhaps

I shall surf with my mind's eye

lying flat

upon the floor

"Hey, ho, I'm still breathin'

I'm alive..."

Just about, Hazel...

just about.

Diclofenac? Tried it. Isn't it called Voltarin in brand name circles?
Ain't it fun getting old and creaky? I'll see you at Venice Beach. I'll be the one wearing the orthodic shoes. R
This is really great, psychomama!
I love your verse! Also laughed much at the tags.
You know you ache when you have to flip a coin with you mate to see who gets bottom!
@ scanner - that's damn funny. Or it would be if it didn't hit so close to home.
psychomama - I feel your pain - literally, I mean. Damn back pain!
Rated.
Great piece. sorry about your back.
Oh you made me laugh with the recognition of my own body and its damned limitations!
ohhhhh, ouch! Sorry you're suffering, sweetie. Backaches are bad news. Oh, man... I feel for ya.
so beautifully worded, even in the midst of your pain. funny too. get well soon.
The ceiling is interesting for only so long. Sorry about the back pain.
Thank you, everyone. I appreciate your kindness and understanding. Believe it or not, it helped to write this! Just to clarify: this is the result of a fall, not a flounce! ;)
Poor baby! Yet you retain your sense of humor. One of the worst parts of recovery from such an injury is feeling like you'll never walk, play, fly, or make love normally again, but you will heal and this will be a distant memory (I hope!)
I love this! Gave me a laugh and beautifully captured my less than beautiful feelings of late. Oh being middle aged does suck, but we still have our dreams to fly on wings of a magnificent gym-body...
