Get me an extinguisher for that crash and burn
I've been training for another triathlon (an olympic distance this time: 1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run) and I've been experimenting with a low carb diet. "Train low, race high", right?
I've been struggling a bit, but that's to be expected, or so I thought, but it hasn't been getting… Read full post »
Wheeeeee!
Today was an hour long ride, concentrating on speed.
Not just maintaining a fast pace, but staying sane while flying along at what seems dangerously fast given how little padding I'm wearing while I ride. Gary, of course, is rock solid - not a shake or shiver… Read full post »
And we're off!
The car's all loaded up tonight because it's race day tomorrow - it's the LA tri series #2 in San Dimas (read: East Bumfuck). I'm just doing the sprint distance (300m swim, 13.5k bike and 5k run), but it'll be my first mass swim start ever, so I'm… Read full post »
Grocery bag pannier official road test
Yesterday, I rode from my home in West LA to my community garden plot in West Hollywood. It's about 18 miles round trip, and doesn't have any really big hills - although the gentle rolling swells of asphalt on Santa Monica Blvd in Century City are daunting when… Read full post »
Meet Gary.
Gary at Bikerowave, looking dapper with his new pedals. The pink bottle cages don't threaten Gary's manhood at all.
Gary, an early 80's Centurion Accordo, is my race bike and my partner in crime. I would feel totally comforable robbing a bank with Gary.
Yes, I know… Read full post »
REI gives back - to me!
One of the things that I love about REI is the annual dividend.
I take my little certificate in, pick something out and get it for either free or at a greatly reduced cost.
This year, I got this:

A Novara grocery bag pannier!
After they… Read full post »
It's a great bike, exept it keeps breaking.
My main commuter bike is a 2010 Cannondale Quick CX. As a
commuter bike, it's great - it's not too heavy, not so expensive or
trendy that it's a huge theft risk, fun to ride and reliable,
except for the fact that bits keep falling off it.
The problem is plastic. They… Read full post »
My personal clutter problem

That's my living room, cluttered with bikes. On top is the race bike (yes, it's old, I know, but I'm broke so it'll have to do), on the bottom hanging on the rack is the commuter, in front is the 'beater' bike that I use around high-theft areas and… Read full post »
Another Milestone with race report.
Today was my first triathlon ever.
I set a pretty low bar for myself. I wanted to finish before they closed the course, and I did it!
I finished 597th overall, and 213th out of the women, which doesn't sound all that great, but I'm feeling pretty… Read full post »
The time, she flies.
Wow. October. Almost November. Where has the time gone? Start a blog, write one entry, then let life get in the way and the next thing you know, it's four months later and you're sitting in front of the computer on a Sunday night, wondering what the hell just happened.… Read full post »
Happy Birthday to me!
Today's my birthday, and I'm 40. Such a loaded number - 40. Supposedly, my life is completely over. Or just beginning.
I suppose it depends on who you ask. It's a tough number for women in Los Angeles, that's for certain.
Although I'd originally planned on doing something spectacular… Read full post »
