Author Raven West recently saw her e-book sales skyrocket during the “Read an E-book Week” promotion. 

 “I was absolutely astounded that nearly 200 books were downloaded on one week!” says West. “Red Wine for Breakfast was originally published in 1999 and First Class Male came out in 2001 with Lighthouse Press, an independent publisher in Arizona. They both did extremely well, but once they were offered on Smashwords.com for .99, the sales went through the roof.”

West points out that part of the ebook success might be the lower price, but she also points out that by offering her novels for .99, with the current economy more people are able to enjoy her books then who might not have at the retail price of $14.95.

“The best thing about selling the books on Smashwords is that you can download the books in a pdf format so you don’t need to shell out $139 or more for a special reader. You can even download the file, print it out yourself, and create your very own hard copy, all for under a dollar!” West said.
