Oh, Lord! Here I am, having returned from a successful trip to Oregon for an audition into University of Oregon's Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) program, (still dealing with a numb right foot thanks to flying and sitting for so long) and feeling very content. In July of 2010, I quit singing after having trained classically for twelve and a half years. I need not go into it as I blogged about a couple of times here at OS. Then, I decided to go for it again this past summer, apply for a DMA at a couple of schools, and start auditioning for things that interested me. I feel I have grown exponentially in the last seven months - more so than I did in the previous two years it seems. I have a top rate voice teacher and vocal coach which consitute my dream team.
Back in the Fall, I did a random internet search for DMA programs on the West Coast and found the University of Oregon's program which is impressive all around. Being sick of the East Coast and ready to move onto the next phase of my life, I gave this program serious thought and realized that I had a trusted source of information no too far from this particular school. Enter, The Flylooper of Open Salon (who, might I say, has a blog that deserves more readership than it currently garners). He and I have been pen pals for over a year, thanks in no small part to our common interests discovered here at OS, so I emailed him and asked him about his thoughts on the University, etc. Then, I did a crazy-ass thing and applied to the University. I emailed The (Super Duper) Flylooper and told him I was coming West! Batton down the hatches, Razzle's coming into town.
The SDF (as he shall hence forth be referred to) offered to be my tour guide and chauffer this past weekend. I could not have asked for more gracious hospitality than that I received from both SDF and his very wonderful Ladyfriend, who both drove me to and from the airport to my hotel, took me to dinner - not once, but twice - and were enthusaistic about my audition. I've often been fed up with OS and its technological hiccups, but I've made some very wonderful friends through this site. Whether or not I'm accepted into the program is beyond my control and I will be satisfied either way, knowing that I sang the best I could, visited one of the most beautiful parts of the country, and have lovely new friends! Credit must be given where credit is due, so thanks OS for setting me up on a successful date ;)

It would be a big change, Mary, but a welcome one. I'm sure it would take time to adjust, but I think it's a great environment in which to learn.
