Returning (arriving?) after way too long...

Rate: 5 Flag

I have not been at all good about posting to Open. I kept thinking that I would really ramp up my contributions once my regular Salon beat (women in politics) cooled down, which seemed likely to happen after Hillary finally dropped out, and post convention, right? Wrong! Post convention (literally post convention, like the morning we were all waking up bleary eyed in Denver after Obama's great speech) my beat heated up again with the introduction of Sarah Palin. So I've been running around like a maniac and remiss about Open. But will now make more of an effort.

Please send me some links to some of the stuff on Open that I have been missing.

Rebecca, I met you at the Salon party in Denver. I'm the one from Boulder that had my friend with me, the pixie one. We spent some time taking to you and Nora.

Would love to read more of your work. I believe you wrote the piece for Salon on the Hillary women...the PUMAS. I loved the article.

I'll recommend 2 of my which did OK and caught the attention, good or bad, for a fair amount of readers:

Screw The Vagina: I want A Brain

And my favorite, only because it shows my heart:

Check out the editor's picks. There's a lot of politics on here, but sometimes, people post other things that the editors find fascinating. And those are needed to remind us that yes, there is an election going on, and yes, it's important.

But there's a whole lot out there that has nothing to do with politics and it's important to keep that in mind.
Thanks, everyone, for such great ideas. I now have my weekend's reading cut out for me.
Your story about Katha Pollitt put you on the map for me. I don't like her writing and after reading your piece--and her blogging which you referenced--I found that I don't like her, either.

I like you, though.
I haven't written much about Sarah Palin lately, though I did pen an informative screed about gangsta rappers Hasty Pudding and the Notorious Ham and Cheese, which will, in all likelyhood, garner me a Pulitzer.
Rebecca,
I read your Sarah Palin piece this morning (9/30) and I have to say, it was spot-on. I think a lot of those things have been said separately in various blogs here, but you put them all together, and you expressed my opinion better than I could have done. Sarah Palin suffers from that ancient Greek sin of hubris, and we're watching her fall. But I don't feel sorry for her, either. I have had too much of people who proudly and loudly proclaim their innocence, and then point at those of us trying to stay informed as "elitists." Whatever. You rock.
Rebecca,

I also read your story on Salon earlier today. You so completely captured what so many of us have been thinking and feeling. Thank you. I liked it so much, I posted it on my Facebook page, and have gotten very positive feedback.

For anyone else reading, here's the link to the Salon story...

I know it's there on the front page today, but not sure where it will be tomorrow.

Just noticed your post promising to write more here went up Sept. 11. Hmmmmm.
Awesome story about Palin!!!
So many good points!!!
Behind Blue Eyes is right on about politics; Robin Sneed, Cindy Ross, and JKBrady are ones to watch (just be careful- if you get rossed, your cindies might get all bradied); Arthur James is the OS poet laureate for this millenium; Homer Langley for some Iraq veteran PTSD writing (highly recommended); nanatehey brings it all together from the center of the universe (KS). More later, Welcome to OS!

Have we lost you to cheeseburgers? Salon needs you. Please get the hell back.
Palin's high profile in the 2008 presidential campaign fueled speculation that she will run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, and beginning in November 2008, there was an active "Draft Palin" movement.

Hi, I am new to blogging, but I have had some success with it. I have had three editor's picks. One thing bothers me, though-- I am very proud of the fiction I have created, yet none of the editors seems to react to anything that isn't true and about me, personally. If you have time, maybe you can tell me what it is I need to do. I don't think I can choose what I write about, it comes from some nether part of my brain.
The three fictional pieces I wrote are
Corn on the Roof
The Last Republican
Welcome to the Club Dumas
Also, I wrote a historical fantasy, Letters from William McKinley, from beyond the grave.
