Because of the controversy over the accuracy of information on Wikipedia, I generally avoid using it for my own references. Nor am I impressed with the site's decision to place more trust in "experienced" editors, given my personal experience with experts and their compulsion to exclude alternative ideas.
Now I discover that another site I have liked a lot until now may be less than reliable as well.
The Urban Dictionary, a user-written dictionary, has been a fun place to find definitions for modern and odd words, like snark, emo and grok.
It's not easy to shock me, but I cannot think of a better word for my reaction to the dominant definition of the word "parse". I wanted to use the word for an OS post, but now I have to write this post first instead.
UD tells me how I can join the site as an editor and recommend the removal of an entry, but why should I have to do that? I have enough on my hands already trying to improve the world without having to find my virtual wooden ruler to rap naughty hands on keyboards.
