Bio
I am not defined by the things I own, the car I drive or the clothes I wear...well, maybe the clothes. I'm almost ALWAYS spreading aloha with my shirts. I'm an avid SCUBA diver, home theater geek, Monty Python fan, and film-buff. I enjoy sparring with street-preachers, and have pity for Watchtower Society members who are just shaking in their shoes with anticipation of the end of the world...they need to listen to Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" for a few hundred times...THAT should make them feel better. I'm a skeptic. I'm a foe of revealed religion. I don't believe in chakras, crystals or Atlantis (unless it's the casino). Thomas Paine is my favorite Deist and Thomas Jefferson would have to be the second. More info click the link. http://www.adherents.com/people/pw/Keith_Wright.html

Internet English 100

Rate: 2 Flag

I'm tired of the same old replies to complaints about the inability of internet posters to understand the differences between "their" "they're" and "there".  "It doesn't matter", says one poster. "Who cares?", adds another.

It does matter and you should care.

I will demonstrate the usage in one simple phrase.

They're getting their tires over there.

Can you understand it now?

Bravo for standing up for the english language! It is what we speak here at OS and what we speak in America. Time to get it right so we can understand one another. Words, after all, DO have meaning!
Internet Language is getting worse and before you know it will turn into a new "geek language" noone understands!
Thanks for caring!
I understand what you are saying, and agree. However, those of us living this side of the Atlantic will be puzzled at your use of "tires" in your example, instead of "tyres".

apparrently there is not a common English language on the internet. Keith, I wrote a post on the aspect of the English in the international internet culture. You can see it at
