Bio: I am not defined by the things I own, the car I drive or the clothes I wear...well, maybe the clothes. I'm almost ALWAYS spreading aloha with my shirts. I'm an avid SCUBA diver, home theater geek, Monty Python fan, and film-buff. I enjoy sparring with street-preachers, and have pity for Watchtower Society members who are just shaking in their shoes with anticipation of the end of the world...they need to listen to Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" for a few hundred times...THAT should make them feel better. I'm a skeptic. I'm a foe of revealed religion. I don't believe in chakras, crystals or Atlantis (unless it's the casino). I was reading my Google News, when I came across an article about the daunting task of cooking from Julia Child's, "The Art of French Cooking." This immediately reminded me of "the Silver Palate Cookbook" series. Only Sheila... Lukins could write recipes which were as complex and daunting as Julia.

I love those cookbooks. They have been an anchor in my library for over two decades and have been the inspiration for many nightly specials in my restaruants, catered events and at home.

I Googled "Silver Palate" and was sad to discover that Sheila had died just two days ago.

My thoughts go out to Sheila's family and friends during this time and only hope they celebrate her life rather than mourn their loss.Read More
