Bio
I am not defined by the things I own, the car I drive or the clothes I wear...well, maybe the clothes. I'm almost ALWAYS spreading aloha with my shirts. I'm an avid SCUBA diver, home theater geek, Monty Python fan, and film-buff. I enjoy sparring with street-preachers, and have pity for Watchtower Society members who are just shaking in their shoes with anticipation of the end of the world...they need to listen to Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" for a few hundred times...THAT should make them feel better. I'm a skeptic. I'm a foe of revealed religion. I don't believe in chakras, crystals or Atlantis (unless it's the casino). Thomas Paine is my favorite Deist and Thomas Jefferson would have to be the second. More info click the link. http://www.adherents.com/people/pw/Keith_Wright.html

I wonder if anyone feels stupid after reading the speech...and are honest enough to admit they were dead wrong about opposing this simple attempt at inspiring the children of this nation to become responsible students, and in turn, responsible adults.

To those of you who still oppose this speech (It's

The Pot is Calling the Kettle, Black.

" Adultery, a repeated blasphemous joke, much sexual humor, some profanity and rough language, and frequent crude and crass terms. O — morally offensive."

Heaven forbid they read, and rate, the bible!

I can't believe this!

I can't believe this. If the Democrat mouthpiece is the New York Times, and the Republican mouthpiece is the WSJ, then is the National Enquirer the mouthpiece for the Tea Partiers/Birthers?

Goodbye Sheila Lukins

I was reading my Google News, when I came across an article about the daunting task of cooking from Julia Child's, "The Art of French Cooking." This immediately reminded me of "the Silver Palate Cookbook" series. Only Sheila... Lukins could write recipes which were as complex and daunting as Julia.

Internet English 100

I'm tired of the same old replies to complaints about the inability of internet posters to understand the differences between "their" "they're" and "there".  "It doesn't matter", says one poster. "Who cares?", adds another.

It does matter and you should care.

I will demonstrate the usage in one… Read full post »

Grandma came back to visit.

I am the primary caregiver to my 90 year-old grandmother.  When people ask me, "What do you do?" that is what I tell them.  I never call her grandma, though...I call her Mert.

Nobody in our family quite knows how or when this happened. … Read full post »

Life is found in the universe!

Astronomers have been searching for life since the concept has been theorized...but there is already life...right here.

We take that life for granted...other beings such as ourselves pass right by us and we are oblivious to their very existance.

We don't agree witht heir religion so we kill the… Read full post »

A Deist Thanksgiving Prayer

Dearest God.

We do not offer our prayers to you in the hopes that you will act upon them, but rather, we offer them as an act of community in the understanding that Creation is perfect according to your laws and needs no further intervention on your part.  It… Read full post »

A response to religious (in)tolerance

Sally Quin stated on the "On Faith" blog at the Washington Post,

"

Obama, McCain, Palin and Religious (In)Tolerance

Ignorance and intolerance of the faiths or lack of faith of others is a huge problem in a world where religion is the main motivating force for most people.

Our country was one of the first to be founded on principles of the Enlightenment and more specifically, that the church was not the head of the government.  Ours is a secular government.

Our laws may have been founded upon Catholic Canonical law, but we have made change… Read full post »

Sarah Palin: Dominionist?

Sinclair Lewis, in "It Can't Happen Here" wrote in 1935 "When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the American flag, carrying the cross."

Mainstream media has given much about Mitt Romney and his LDS beliefs (which are odd but benign), yet have little to say… Read full post »
