He seemed charming at first...

Matt Berninger, Sexiest Man

Rate: 4 Flag

Matt Berninger (from nymag.com)

Check out this guy. That's Matt Berninger, frontman and chief crooner for the indie band The National. I love this band, its lyrics steeped in cynicism and sometimes seedy sexuality. I sang in several choirs, but I was never in a band. But if I were a singer in a rock and roll band, I would want to sing like this guy.

Berninger's cynicism contrasts with the jubilant optimism of this week, and this video shows him at his most biting, relative to the society under George W. (which isn't yet at an end), but I submit him to OS readers as a sexiest man, his discordant juxtaposition against the new and improved Zeitgeist notwithstanding.

That was great. Seconded ;0)
Oh, good one. I love the National.
Awwwwww. And I just noticed -- on keyboards is Salon NY favorite and former Audiofile columnist Thomas Bartlett!
For real?.? The Thomas Bartlett??

Actually, Kerry, I think I first heard The National from Bartlett's Audiofile download column on Salon.

They are practically my favorite band now, when I listen to bands.
Reminds me of David Cook...well, his looks. I love David Cook!
Good call! I wasn't familiar with this band, but I love his vocals - he's got that Grant Lee Buffalo thing going on, plus the song's arrangement is terrific. I'm a sucker for a trumpet.
Deonne, I was a little disappointed this was the only video I could find to imbed in the post. While Fake Empire is a great song, I think they have better songs. And according to my iTunes play counts, I like their CD Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers better than Boxer.
