Bon Voyage to the Jubille Sailing Trustâ€™s Barque Lord Nelson on Her Round the World Voyage
Today, on the 207thÂ anniversaryÂ of Lord Nelson’s victory at Trafalgar, theÂ JubileeÂ Sailing Trust‘s 55-meterÂ three masted barque, Lord Nelson, sets sailÂ fromÂ Southhampton, UK on aÂ 23-month 50,000 mile journey around the world. Â The ship will visitÂ more than 30 countries on all seven continents and cross the equator four times during theÂ voyage.
TheÂ Lord Nelson is the Trust’s flagship and the first sailing ship specifically built to allowÂ physically-disabled and able-bodied sailors to sail side-by-side. Â The ship is equipped withÂ wheelchair lifts, Braille instructions, joystick steering and a talking compass. Â The ship’s professional crew is also specially trained in working withÂ people of all physical and sensory abilities in engaging in watch keeping and ship handling.
