A Courageous Whistle-Blower, Not A Spy

Rate: 6 Flag

On Thursday, the gag order was finally lifted from the general details of the "grave national security affair" surrounding the arrest of Anat Kamm, 23, media reporter for Israel's Walla! Internet portal. You can read the main details here, and in Judy Mandelbaum's fine coverage as well. You can read what the journalist who received the documents in question and based a few expose's on them has to say here, and a good piece by Nazareth-based journalist Jonathan Cook here.

Prosecution is claiming "espionage with intent to harm national security" and asking the judge to sentence the terrible threat to life in prison. To which those of us who have yet to take the brown-acid-spiked kool aid of jehovah-nazism say: Pffffft. Let us please revisit a few past cases:

Mordechai Vanunu - gave Israel's most prized and closely guarded nuclear secrets, including the number of nuclear weapons at its disposal at the time, to a foreign newspaper, with the express intention of harming Israel's self-perceived, long-held and bipartisan security interests. Served: 18 years.

Dr. Marcus Klingberg - spied for the Soviet Union for many years. Real, actual spying in the service of a foreign, hostile power. Served: 20 years.

Lt. Col. Yitzhak Yaacov: Revealed secrets from Israel's chemical and biological (um, defensive only) programs to foreign nationals and media figures. Painted by Israel's security establishment as a huge threat and also indicted for "intent to harm national security". Served: Two years - sentence suspended. Repeat: Two years, suspended sentence.

In addition we have the various cases of high-ranking individuals who revealed truly sensitive secrets, with and without to harm national interests:

N. from the Mossad, Deputy chief of the spy organization, who met with an Israeli journalist and revealed top secret stuff: Was made to resign, and that's it.

Eli Zeira, former commander of Israel's military intelligence (and the man most responsible for Israel getting blindsided in the Yom Kippur War): In his ongoing attempts to cleanse himself of that stain, gave up Israel's top asset in Egypt, one Ashraf Marwan, who shortly thereafter "fell" from his hotel room in London to his death. A lazy pseudo-investigation has been dragging on for two years. Zeira has not been arrested.

Binyamin Netanyahu
, yeah, that one, aka Bibi, aka the Baron von Bibhausen, who in 1995 read, from the Knesset dais, a document detailing Israel's positions for peace negotiations with Syria. Neither Netanyahu nor the traitor who leaked him this document have ever been investigated or tried in connection with this mind-boggling breach of national security.

Danny Yatom, former Mossad chief, who took home at least one souvenir in the form of a top secret document, and also used it in his book. No mysterious break-ins have occurred at his abode.

And finally, the officers who leaked detailed plans regrding the evacuation of settlements in the "disengagement", and bragged about it publicly - these were not only not arrested, or tried for "espionage", they were not even discharged from the army.

So give us a motherfucking break with the life sentence crap, and "intention to harm security" horse shit. The woman in question, who happens to have a cousin brother-in-law who writes for the Washington Post, took documents which proved very serious crimes by the highest echelons of the military - so high that there was no question of "going through channels". She then sat on these documents for a year, not giving them to bro-in-law Sammy, before handing them over - but only to an Israeli journalist, whom she knew would be subject to military censorship regarding anything he'd do with the material. I'd say this proves intent to do anything she could NOT to hurt national security, and to allow the state to maintain ultimate control over the secrets. If Yitzhak, who gave secrets which did not prove any wrongdoing to a foreign journalist got two years suspended, no way on earth Kamm should get any more.

The fact that not only was her arrest kept under a gag order, but also a full month of trial, proves that the lords of lies planned to lock her up in secret and present the public with a fait accompli. Only the fact that a gag order is meaningless in the age of the Net prevented them from doing so.

So if not about security, what is this about? Well, a few things:

First and foremost, this is a coverup for the fact that a lowly staff secretary could take so many top secret documents without anyone even noticing. That is the real scandal here in terms of security, and it doesn't stand alone in a vacuum, but rather alongside the embarrassing episodes of theft from the Chief of Staff's chambers.

Second, and equally important, this is about self preservation. According to Stasi leaks, Kamm in her interrogation said she took the documents because she wanted those responsible for the crimes they proved "to stand at the dock in The Hague". Ahhhh. The nightmare of every war criminal. This isn't about state security - it's about personal security, and personal payback.

There's a lot more to say, and all kinds of angles, including the lesser plight of journalist-on-the-run Uri Blau, who fled the country the day Kamm was arrested and has already had his Tel Aviv flat burglarized by the Stasi thugs and been threatened by the head of the Stasi, Yuval Diskin, that "terror organizations" may want to hurt him...

But it's getting late, I want to get this up and still have 800 words to turn in for actual paying work, so feel free to ask specific questions in the comments, I'l write more in the coming days, and for now, we'll end with the following:

To Yuval Diskin, Gabi Ashkenazi, and the rest of the junta of the racist, immoral occupation force, which seek to silence us as they ignore the laws of Israel and the human race, planning murder and ethnic cleansing to maintain the unsustainable, we say to you what brave Italians said to their organized criminals: You cannot silence us all. We will continue to speak up, throw the truth in your shame-filled faces and never stop seeking proof of your crimes, until justice is done and peace comes for all sons and daughters of this land.

So, what would it take to get some Israeli military or political nabobs into the Hague? I mean, they're right up there on the list, aren't they?
Actual apprehension? :-) For them to take an ill-advised trip abroad?
Great piece, thanks for staying on top of this for us.

Fantastic job. This case is really heating up!
thanks for this fine reporting.

it comes to me as a portrait of a country where who you know matters more than the laws, or even in the end the national security. It puts anything the govt. says in question and could also account for the almost unprecidented corruption on the highest levels. (Is Lieberman next?)

It is a nation in the grips of a mass psychosis in my view (stated on my blog in THE ISRAELI RIGHT: SHADOW OF THE NAZI'S.)

Were on the same page Ricky. I hope you find more exposure soon.
