...Fishing For Karma...

Rate: 64 Flag
Well, I have been trying to change my luck by reading blogs and finding ones that I can apply a random act of kindness to by making a nice blog banner for them. (Below, you can see what I have done so far.)

A holiday surprise, if you would.

Although my mood has been, (and continues to be) black.. I still feel the need to be nice and maybe do a little fishing for my soul. It can never hurt.

..Just click on each banner to go the person's blog..

very damn good list of work my friend!! Can't wait ti see mine.
I hope the weather is not as bad as when I looked at it the last time. Keep warm at all costs.
Love the beauty of your work!!!!!
peace
Suzy
Very nice! I think you have the makings of a cottage industry there, Ric.

People, remember that tip button!
These are all so gorgeous! Thanks for the reminder about the tip button, Leigh. Now to figure out how it works. Ric, are you signed up for tips?
Well, they won't let me open an account. Boo-o-oo, hiss.
Sadly.. I can't have tips. You have to have a bank account and I don't.
You can read why I can't have a bank account right over here:
http://open.salon.com/content.php?cid=50634

So.... no tips for me. Thanks for the thought, though :)
I want to thank you publicly for my banner. I love it! I'm pleased to say that your random act of kindness is very much appreciated. I wish there was someway to repay you for the unsolicited favor.

You Rock, My Friend!!!
Those are lovely, Ric! I'm sorry there's no way for folks to show their appreciation tangibly, but I'm sending good karma your way as hard as I can. I do hope things start looking up for you very soon.
You are a talented guy, Ric. It seems like someone, somewhere would be willing to pay for your designs. About the tip thing...do you have family members with a bank account that could be used? Just a thought.
Ooh, I like the idea of using a relative's bank account, but then that is totally up to you.

Personally, Ric, I understand why you want to shy away from banks. Your concerns are only the tip of the iceberg. My husband WORKS for a bank (not in the money part) and can't even get fully paid, as you know from my blog.

When all is said and done, our masochistic relationship with banks will stand as the biggest and longest period of collective insanity in U.S. history. Maybe not the worst, but surely the most insane. My "pop" came when I gave up my credit cards, realizing that by gum, their "terms" said they could change the interst rate on the cards AT ANY TIME FOR ANY REASON. In other words, you would be better off playing with rattlesnakes.

But of course the biggest reason to avoid them is because they are thieves and social succubuses have no social value whatsoever, despite their protestations to the contrary.

More importantly, I love the headers you have done so far.
Thanks folks :) No relative that I can use, close by, (they are a funny lot anyway.) Nope! No tips for me. Dagnabit!
Ric, you are a kind hearted person. Thank you for making my blog Banner. It's a constant reminder to me of the selfless kindness of people.

Big Bro Hug,
Greg
Ric, let me publicly express my gratitude for my blog banner. It was truly an unexpected jewel in my inbox one day. Kind of like the funnest toy in your childhood Christmas stocking. I continue to ship the good vibes and positive energy your way. Hope you two are staying warm.
Ric, thank you for the banner you did for me, too, my brother. Mere gratitude can't adequately express all I feel about you and this and the current state of things for us both. But it's a start.

Namaste.
Can't hardly wait. My blog is so - blah.
These are really gorgeous, Ric. Made me think of this poem:

"I heard a bird sing
in the depth of December,
A magical thing
And sweet to remember."

Out of darkness, comes light.
Bless you, my friend.
I added a new one this morning.. The Naked Truth. The flowers in the picture are mine, taken in my yard a couple years ago.

I'll be cruising OS today... so, watch for me. :)
Oh, Ric, The Naked Truth is mine, and I so love getting a bouquet from your own yard! The metaphor is striking as per this Bette Midler song:

Some say love it is a river
that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed.

Some say love it is a hunger
an endless aching need.
I say love it is a flower
and you it's only seed .

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance.
It's the dream afraid of waking that never takes the chance.
It's the one who won't be taken
who cannot seem to give
and the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live .

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows
lies the seed
that with the sun's love
in the spring
becomes the rose.
Mine is awesome, I love it!! Thank you so much Ric :D

Added, "You call yourself a Writer.. me too." by Sandra no longer Miller.
Added Gary Justis's Blog, "Love, Like a Burnt Twinkee, Must Stick"
Wow! These are wonderful.

May I ask a question about the size of images for banners? I was messing around with some images and when I saved as .png and uploaded I had to wait for the image to load. So I kept making it a smaller size (file) and still had the same thing. Then I saved it as .jpg and the file was the same size but suddenly the image loaded at the same time as the rest of the page.

Why is that? If I wanted to increase the file size/quality, how high can you go? I assumed I had to have a file no bigger than 25whatevers.
FYI, the banner is 990px wide by 125px tall.. there isn't really any sense having a file bigger than 72 dpi because that is the max for web use.

PNGs don't seem to work as good for some reason.. I find JPEG's are the best way to go.

Hope this helped you out a bit, Paris.
thanks for the info, Ric. You're an inspiration and such a wonderful person to do this.
I added, "Tequilaanddonuts's Blog.." But I can't take credit for the design. I noticed her banner was about 25 pxs to short. You could see white on both ends. I also noticed she was using the generic OS font.

The Banner Savant in me had to fix it, and I did. I cloned the ends.. which was a challenge in it's self because the background appears to be wrinkled and I gave her a custom, chrome, font.

And so there you go!
I am so grateful you did that Ric. It had been bugging me, but I didn't want to take the time to figure out the dimensions. It looks so much better now that it's "finished".

Thanks again.
Added, "Pentimento" Monte Canfield's Blog.
My banner came out even better than I could have imagined. Many thanks, friend. I really, really appreciate it. You have a wealth of talent, Ric.

Thanks much,

Monte
I appear to have rated this one before but not left a comment. Hmmmm......

Ric, I know I'm just repeating myself here, but I want to thank you again for the great banner. I've looked at all the others, and I think your work is just outstanding, guy.

Thank you so very much for your generosity, your creativity, and your spirit.

Thanks - you're assembling a lovely portfolio of work here... hope it leads you to the place that you want to be, with it all!
I added a new one today, "Middle V not evil since 1966." This one is special because Vonnia is a long time online friend of mine from the old Spymac forum days. Glad you are here V!
They're all so beautiful. I literally giggled with delight when I saw mine.

A million thanks!
No.. sorry, I don't believe it is possible. Strictly a JPG Or a GIF if you want some animation. It would be cool, though, if a person could add sound but I don't believe it is possible.

Although, you could give it a try.. You just don't know till you try.
Added a new one today. "Just Let Her Burn.." A blog by ConnieMack.

I proudly claim The Naked Truth as mine. I love the flowers particularly because they were from you garden.

Thank you Steph..

Umbrellas's , Fortunate Pen's and Sandra no longer Miller's banners are a slice of a picture of some flowers Theresa got for mother's day.

O'Kathryn's and Marple Fank's banners were taken in my back yard..

Verbal Remedy's banner day lillys were from my garden.

M.A.H.'s banner pic was taken by me at a local park near my home.

John's Living in Partial Light picture was taken in my back yard.

And Lisa Kern's blog, Not Quite All There Is photo was taken in my front yard.

Added a new one today, "Agoraphobic in Oregon with dogs." By Theodora L'Engle Knight.
So THAT's where all these wonderful works came from! Who knew?? (Not me...) Very nice work. I have to say, T&D is my favorite, but there are so many wonderful ones....
Thanks but I can't take credit for T&D. The only thing I did was to clone the ends to make it the correct length and I gave her a custom font instead of the stock, OS one. The original is all her doing.
God, these are so damn cool. How does one get on the list? I'd like a poster just of these!!
Wow, Ric. So it is you behind these amazing banners. I knew of some of these and thought it was so cool that you took this upon yourself to do these individualized, stylized visions of the bloggers you chose for your imagination and selflish gift. You are fishing in the right water hole. Yours shall be all good in return as you open yourself up more and more to the possibility of bright light, where the blackness now recedes. You are a lovely man. A giver. That is true art.
OOPS, Ric! Didn't mean to say "selfish!" Meant "selfless" gift. Yours to others. That one extra glass of fine Cab reaks havoc on my brain and 'types me funny.'
Added a new one: "Candisverybad's Blog" by Candi.
Despite the fact that I have a toothache the size of Alaska today.. I added another one: "dcvdicken's blog."

Ric, You're so talented, and so generous. I wish that I could pay you a lot of money for what you did for me, but I can't. I can tell you that I love my banner, and every time I open my blog, I think of the fact that that was a gift to me from you.
Thank you.
Man, you have done a ton of them and while there is a clear, unmistakable indication that it is you at work in every one, there is also that great individuality and uniqueness in each one. All are great but I feel sorry for all the others because mine is clearly the best. ;-)

Thanks again. Every time I look at mine I love it and think what a cool and generous thing you did for me.

Monte

Beautiful. Wonderful. Full of the Gift. O, Wonder.
RicTresa. I can't see, but you wear the cowboy hat?
You found one straw hat at a Bar Mitzvas Synagogue?
God bless you. What a nice cowboy hat. I tip my llama.
I'm rooting for more reads from You. Who needs help?

Thanks Arthur.. No, I don't wear a cowboy hat, I don't as a rule wear any hats but when I do it is usually the hand knitted skull cap sent to me bu a fellow OS blogger or my old trusty Gig Harbor ball cap.

Although for a number of years I wore cowboy boots because they were strangely comfortable.

Added a new banner and link today, "trig palin's blog" by trig palin.
Love Trig's banner. I want to know how you got the rest of the picture out of his last banner that was just the hand.

your stuff is just wonderful Ric.
Tis' easy, my dear. All you have to do is right click on a banner and pick the option, "view background image.." and volia' you will get the whole picture, (if there is one.)

Thanks for the compliment!
well, there is a sneaky little bit of info for all those people who think that they've masked the rest of ...erm...whatever.

I may just go right clicking all over OS. :)

thanks for the technology lesson Ric.
Yes, when you load a picture for your banner that is larger than the 990 px wide and 125 px high only the top portion of the picture will show in the banner space. There is no option for centering. Where ever possible I will try and work the picture into the banner. The funny thing is that sometimes people forget what picture they have used and when I redo it sometimes they are critical of my efforts, wondering why I have used such a picture on their blog.. People are strange sometimes.
Added two new ones today, "Moses Mendoza's Blog"
and
"James M. Emmerling's Blog"

Moses's banner is my 100th made and given, so far.
Added a new blog and link yesterday.. AnniThyme, I zig when I should zag.
I've gotten a little slack with my new banner announcements so here are three new ones I have done, this month and last:
1. Pink Marbles.. by Pnk Marbles
2. Slow Roasted, Too.. by Meander61
3. Jim Taggart's Blog.. by Jim Taggart
Ric is a true gift to OS. I just joined the other day and stumbled upon him on Google when searching for blog banners, realizing that, hey, this dude's on OS! In the space of an afternoon (today!), Ric customized a banner for me. Here was his challenge: he noted that I enjoy mountain biking but also play the piano. Try melding those two activities together. If you want to see the result, check out the banner he designed for me on my page - nothing short of totally inspiring.

I want one! I love doing this kind of graphic art, too, but you seem to be the master, so I will bow to your expertise.
