I just figured it out, this fascination with OS and its inherent problem.
Most of the great OS writers are stumbled upon by happenstance. Other times you will get an invite to check out someone's prose.
But the problem lies with the inadvertant finds. Just when I think I don't have enough time to read another post, my peripheral will spot an inviting comment. Basic human nature forces me to open that post. And my not enough time has turned into another 90 minutes of reading.
It's those little discoveries that I have come to love and hate. Love finding a writer by accident only to learn he or she has so many wonderful posts that I haven't read. I hate that I will never have time to read them all or that their work will lead me to another undiscovered whose complete work I will never have time to consume.
So, if I have added you as a friend, it is with every intention to return and read all of your stuff as soon as I get time.
That is my problem, not OS's.

I'll send out an e-mail for my "good" ones .
Rated for stating it well.
Sometimes I find a great post that went unnoticed from a month or two ago, only to see that the author hasn't written anything again. Those are the hardest to stumble across.
And, I think the problem is exacerbated right now because of the holidays.
OS has become *the only thing* I find time to read---after scanning the NYTs each morning just to make sure we haven't blown up the planet, yet---and, still, I'm not getting to one tenth of all the great posts!
High class problem to have, I guess.
Jess D. Facts... My tooth is back in place(after sanitization). Thansk for remembering.
Jeffrey D. Kankakee has changed. I returned home (1997)after 22 years in Calif and found my home nothing like I remembered. I was an MD at St Mary's Hospital at age 15. That's MD as in mad dishwasher.
For those who suggested listing posts according to genre, I think i would lose a lot if I only read my interests. Another hi-lite of OS is that so many writers are so gifted that I enjoy their writing style more than the subject. I find myself reading and enjoying posts about topics that would not normally interest me.
Hope that makes sense.

BINGO Michael.
I try not to hit on obviously whorish (just picked that up here) headlines because I usually find the party inside is not as exciting.
But I do hit on posts when I see writers I like have been there.
Lately, Ive been trolling the "Most Recent" and commenting on newbies work since I know how hard it is to put yourself out there.
And like you....I have a problem with time.
since I found OS, my bedside reading material has languished untouched. Other posts have addressed suggestions for categories, navigation, etc. so I won't get into that. But...
for the record, I think it is NICE and appreciated when people go back and read old posts.

I feel your pain, but I have three up on you. I spend so much time here now, my wife is always pissed (although that's not terribly uncommon after 35 years of marriage), my daughter is distant, and my best friend Chewey (see avatar) barks at me like I'm the demonic cat in the backyard every time I get near myPC.
Oh the sacrifices we make :-)
