 hurtling toward thunder

august night sky flashing

cicadas shriek deafening

slip into manual;  to 80

to where the shrieks are trails

against the vacuum

in my ears

hurtling towards some unknown

thunder

as I always have

top down

sky threatening

future unknown

universe be kind

I don't care for utube embeds too much but this song I was playing as I rode through an August night,  lightening cracking in front of me, couldn't find it on any other venue, think you will enjoy it.

beautiful, the poem and song both
thanks Jules, had it hidden away felt it was time.. glad you liked it.
clear, concise, creative
universe be kind,
indeed.
"hurtiling towards some unknown thunder" Beautiful, fast and hard. Grand simply grand. One of your best (for me that is). Were this Universe so kind...or forgiving. I'd take either.
The song is wonderful.
Rated on a late night.
I once went through the salt desert of Utah during a lightning storm.

It can be intense.
Hair blowing in the wind...
... as you always have

I think what I like is the fabulous sense of trust here

or maybe that's cicadas, or wind,

whatever ~ pedal to the floor, loving it Rita.
...to where the shrieks are trails
against the vacuum
in my ears...

whether those shrieks be that of cicadas or of the thoughts and feelings we need to let out and let go ... this, Rita, is a very powerful poem, as is the song, in a deep yet restrained way. (Does that makes sense to you??? Not sure it will ... hopefully it does.)

You're right, Rita ... I did like the song. Very much.
electric bird heat

what year is it? is it now

is the road open?
Oh I like Utube Embeds and this was a good one. I see lightning coming down the road too. The atmosphere is super charged lately. Scary.
Driving in a thunderstorm with the top down?

Are you also the kind of person who goes to the beach to watch hurricanes?

r
The adventurous poet out for a drive. Love it.
Some may say "recklessness." I say "courageous."
rita, you always leave me speechless for how sparingly you use the language to abundantly hit the reader's mind and heart! Btw, I once chased a thunderstorm midway between Albuquerque and Santa Fe (I was a foreign student at UNM) as I was struck by the contrast of colours in the sky, sun and darkness, and the earth, the ochre of the ground and the deep green of the pinon trees...in the end I turned around as I decided to not reach into the darkness.....
lovely Rita. I woke up to an inch of snow on my car this morning. It felt good to be reminded of a stormy August night, not so long ago.
This creates a palpable excitement and an implicit love of life in all its beauty and potential risk/danger/hurt. I imagined myself hurtling along with you and loved every second. Thank you. Great images. R
Thanks Scarlett, wrote it when I came in that night and stored it away, tried to write more later but it just wasn't happening.
Hey Scylla, glad you liked it! your favorite is cool because you have read me from the start. Thank you for all your kindness in reading.
Nick, I imagine so, I was in the cornfields black black night. TY
Tai, had my hat on always but yes hair ablowing!
Thanks Kim for encouraging me with this, it does seem to be hitting people the right way. Pedal to the floor, straight into the storm.
It does make sense Kate, right after we lost my dad I had a feeling a being let down, it a lot of different ways, I played this song a lot. Thanks Kate.
JP it is as close to now as ever, the road is open, I just don't know where it's going. Thanks for coming by and reading.
Thanks Z, glad you liked the Utube, check her out, her stuff is good.
Con it was heat lightening so it hadn't started raining smarty pants, no I don't ride with the top down in the rain but i will push it till the drops actually fall then pull over. TY
Thanks Matt er Frank er Chicken Man er Matt!
Hi Jerry, i like your version of crazy the best.. thanks Jerry.
Santa Fe is famous for those hues Roberto, I have never been there, but I loved the feeling of speeding up into the lightening, how loud the crickets where and the feel of the last bit of summer in all it's lushness. Thank you for the kind words, I wish I could hear you read it in Italian, such a gorgeous language.
GH we are expecting snow this weekend too, really early for us. Last night I used a heater, so this night already feels old. Thanks friend.
Hi Michele jump in, don't look at the speedometer please and I have plenty of loaner hats for you! TY
Words
Like flashes
Of lightining
Across the sky
Images captured
Speeding up
and careening
To places
unknown.

Loved it.
-r-
Yes. Know the feeling. Love it!
There's nothing -- NOTHING -- like the rush that comes with speed and the wind in your face, coupled with an August night. Nicely done, Rita.
there's that magnet that draws me to danger, to risk. your poem says that and makes it so much more than a draw, makes me feel like i'm riding a storm. hurtling is the perfect word. love this, friend.
wonderful, daring, driving ~
You sound like someone with a spirit wild and free with the strength to conquer shrieks.
Nice Rita. Really first rate.

I'm jealous.

:-) / R
The photo, your words and the song are one. Beautiful unity of starkness, like a diamond in the raw. Makes me feel free--I want to go on a road trip now. Thank you for this. Rated.
That is your metaphysical condition as well:
(we all know that the physical conditions
of our life have metaphysical overtones & mythopoetic
universals guiding them, yes?)

"top down
sky threatening
future unknown
universe be kind"

the last line almost a...prayer..almost..
topdown living for me, expecially with great veloity,
has been problematic but worth every crash in to
the very heart of the thunder i have made.
Most en-lightening. For a while.
then back to top down living..
to
prepare, rest , and do better next time i find
the vacuum

in my ears

hurtling towards some unknown...

the knowns gotta be known before the unknowns can be tackled,
is my conservative metaphysical condition now..........

thunder
You shoud have had this ay=utoplaay as we read.
where's the rest

after the rain

drenched

tears
nice. reminds me that i am in denial that summer has ended. ahhh to smell the rain hit that hot august pavement again. thanks rita.
The song complements the poem - presenting them together enhances both, and really brings the mood. Honestly, though, even without the song, the words put me right there. I love the intensity of approaching storms. They scare me, but I love them.
Thanks my two bird poet friends, Dunnite and spike, I like your take on it too Dunnite
Hey Boanerges my old buddy where have you been? you know all about speed and the vacuum past your ears, August nights are the best. TY for stopping in
Thanks Femme, I guess no one knows where they are headed just some of us realize we have no clue. And sometimes we like it like that.
Thanks Catch jump in!
Brave or stupid Sarah I guess is the bigger question sometimes TY
Hey Toritto we may have different styles but you do just fine don't you? lots of good stuff on your blog.
Thanks Erica I like the idea of a whole blog expressing the idea, glad you think it hits that mark.
James I have been burnt by this type of free throw into the universe too, sometimes it is all you can do. Great line of thought here, as per your usual. missed you.
Dianne, for some reason I don't care for autoplay, I like to read the poem in silence then have the music carry the feeling on, but that's just me. When I listen to music ihave to give it my full attention and when reading the same. thanks for the idea though.
II you know full well that is exactly what was happening either before of after that rain. thanks for understanding.
RR: I love summer so much, I love August my favorite month. Thanks for coming by,welcome here.
owlie there are two kinds of people, those that love storms and the other kind. thanks friend, glad to see you.
Wow. You carried the crackle of the lightning and the power of the thunder in your words. Others have quoted the last 5 lines; they resonated with me as well.
Yes, universe be kind.
Felt like riding in the cockpit of a camera pill.
Love the poem & the song, Rita. It portrays freedom & fearlessness to me.
This line made me smile.
"as I always have" R
“... as I always have ...”

So few words, Rita, yet all is clear
even in the vast unknown.
Thinking of you and of all your roads ...
all our roads ...
Thank you for sharing this.
I felt like I was right there with you. Thanks for taking me on a thrilling ride!
amazing Rita! I love it!
r
I like the energy this poem provokes, the gear, the noise, the open road.
future unknown
universe be kind
THIS IS WHAT I AM GOING THROUGH RIGHT NOW,

Your poem so inspiring .just loved it
Thanks Keri, always feel a little trepidation putting stuff out, glad to know I am in like company here, thanks for coming by.
Damon: love your comments, cockpit of a camera pill, hey that is so apt here! Thanks for reading.
Tril: at that moment and after the events of the summer I started to realize the only thing holding me back is me, so you read correctly thanks Tril.
Raz: that is our prayer, we of little faith, thanks Razzle.
anna1: One thing is sure, you are riding shotgun with me and we will talk about it all as TS!
Alysa: hop it plenty of room, I bet you have your own hat..
Thanks Poppi I know you are a poetry fan so meaningful you are coming by
Scup: thanks for popping in to read my poem, exactly the feeling and this one just came out whole so happy it conveyed correctly.
You Know JR it probably its exactly what it means, just revved up at the sight of the lightening and thought I guess life will have to be what it is, tonight, it's August, and the road.
esco my friend: yes, yes you are. and how many times in our lives have we already? I guess the living and the changing is the one constant we have to hold on to. So glad to see you, I will email soon.
dear rita shibr

i want to stay with you

Only brave souls hurtle toward the unknown.
Compact and powerful, as always.
argh rita..this damned snowstorm up here in CT...
power gonna be out for a long damn while, i fear....
i am hurtling once again toward the Darkness..
finally got reconnected to the universe
with my swell new mobile hot spot,
but

only 25 minutes battery on computer
and power on, who knows when, says the utility companies.

universe, be kind!

stop playing these jokes on me.
sorry, James, it must be hard, alone in the dark without connection to the world, your friends at OS. Maybe try to sleep as I am going to go back and try to, before the sun comes up. We had a terrible storm Saturday but it is all cleared up just about today. Hold tight James.
Thanks for coming by UME and DiBi welcome here, I don't understand your second line UME...
I like that sweet rush of total abandon - unfamiliar order in seeming chaos - leaving all in the hope of a kind universe. Thank you, Rita.
♥R
Sublime! From a place of personal understanding, by a man who's sentence was commuted but a moment too late... Funny, how having ones soul punched wide open leaves such an empty place... Sadly, yet so joyful is the moment when vision seeks/finds direction, and blissfull serenity fills that space... Be the seeker, I know you to be Rita, a less certain, yet more fulfilling road less traveled lies at your fingertips...RRR
Thank you Fusun, I like your ordered chaos theory here..
Patrick, hello there!
The seeker I am, I hope to continue to be, perhaps commuted myself for a bit. Still waiting on the vision of what to be appears ahead.. I guess that is always the dilemma.
The poem, the song, the photo all amazingly beautiful.
