In the next year, Americans will spend 41 billion dollars on their pets. That's more that the gross domestic product of all but 64 countries in the world according to Business Week (be sure to check out the part on artifical testicals for neutered pets). For comparison purposes, the US government pledged 292 million to Haiti for FY 2010, about140 times less that we spend on our critters.
