Glenn Beck: Proud to be a Terrorist

I'm one of those  kids who likes the idea of giving everybody health care, but not taxing me one cent.  If we can figure out a way to do that, great, but for the most part, it bugs me that I pay taxes for entitlements.

But, while I'm not quite liberal, I'm not totally conservative, and these days there doesn't seem to be any middle ground.  While Obama keeps his verbiage tempered, Glenn Beck doesn't have a problem using the same language that terrorists use to rally around there cause.  With a nod to John McCain and Sarah Palin's 08 presidential campaign, his website is a grab bag of terrorist related words.

For instance, it's not okay to be an Islamic Extremist, but it's okay to be a Glenn Beck "Extremist."

He has a photo gallery called "Beck's Rogue Gallery".  Rogue is defined as:  "a dishonest, knavish person; scoundrel," according to the Random House dictionary.  Used as a verb with an object, rogue means "to uproot or destroy."  Indeed, going rogue implies you're operating on your own terms outside of the constraints of a society, usually to the chagrin of that society.  Sound familiar?

Or how about "Why Health Care Reform Is Like Cup Stacking".  Wait, nevermind.

Then there's the part where he criticizes formal liberal terrorists (like the Weather Underground)--and it's a horribly crafted argument--for turning to democratic means to achieve their goals.  Is he implying that radical means are now all that's left for conservatives?

The worst part is that Glenn Beck's policies aren't that totally off from my own.  Do I think we should have more taxes?  Nope.  States rights? All for them?  Entitlements? I have trouble tipping more than 15%.  If only he could craft a sound non-venomous argument on that chalkboard of his instead of channeling revolutionary rhetoric that is sure to be (easily) misconstrued by some people as an excuse to take up arms against a government that no longer represents the minority.  (It's been barely a year since they were the minority by the way)

Beck likes to refer to the Declaration as a guidepost for this country.  But for every grievance  Obama may be held to account for ("He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance", thinking of the czars here), George Bush is far more culpable (same grievance, but DHS; and then this one: "For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences", as in Guantanamo; and "He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither...").

Deep down I can't believe that someone would be as idiotic and insensitive as Glenn Beck appears to be. Well, maybe he is that dumb or clueless, but part of me thinks that there's a little bit of con man in him. I think that he is in love more with himself than with the ideas he tries to push on his show. He is the master of creative deception and mis-information. I think any 4th grader can see through him. But then why does he have so many followers? That is something I truly don't understand. How can people be so dumb? Surely, the rest of the world must be laughing at the U.S.
Off hand I would say change the channel, but then you would miss the balancing act. I like to switch from him to Olberman. The biggest diferences is that Beck shows you where he gets his info, I whatch Olberman make crap up one day as he went along.
Beck is a flame thrower, don't get me wrong. but spend one week going over leftist news and papers, and you will see that it's comon for them to do such things.
Ex; During the Bush years there were well over 100 arrest of terrorist by the FBI, none made the news. This week some Christian militants were picked up and it's lead the headlines everyday.
"The biggest diferences is that Beck shows you where he gets his info"

Really Edwin? Seriously? The "info" you're talking about is usually on the order of Glenn saying some made-up, scary sounding stuff about Obama, scrawling some gibberish on his chalkboard, then holding up pictures of swastikas and hammers and sickles. If you classify that as "information" I'd advise that you do a little reading on what critical thinking means. As in, please learn how to think; you'll find it can be useful.
Dude, tip more than 15%, especially if you are buying something cheap. Waitresses and waiters are only required by law to be paid about $2.50 an hour and they work their asses off. Tips make up the biggest bulk of their income, and in many places have to be split with busboys, bartenders, hostesses, and kitchen staff. If you use a credit card to pay, the service fee that the restaurant is charged often comes out of the server's credit-card tips. If a customer walks out on a bill, that is often deducted from the server's pay.

Their employers are supposed to make up the difference between that and minimum wage if they don't make enough in tips to make up the difference, but 1.) enforcement of this is spotty and 2.) minimum wage is well below the poverty line.

Tipping isn't about entitlement. It's about ensuring that the people who are doing the work of bringing you your food get paid a fair wage.
And what Leeandra said. Being decent to those around us isn't about entitling them; it's about being decent.
Ha ha, sorry all. I said I don't like tipping more than 15%, that doesn't mean I don't. For me, it will depend on the service. Coming from Washington State where all service industry employees earn the state's minimum wage (8.50) I've had to change my perceptions since moving here.

But tipping taxi drivers, hoteliers, etc. A buck on a beer? Sorry. That just seems wrong.

I'm not one for personal attacks, so I will just say this.
Have you seen the video evidence he shows? Have you heard him refrence the NY Times? Or know how many hours are put into research?
Instead of assuming that he's lying, try to prove him wrong yourself.
