This endeavor has been constructed upon a foundation of a few themes. Chief among these is the stupidity and self-importance of poor white folks. Such behavior is explained in magnificent detail by Robert Frank (whom I've recently seen on BookTV, and he's not Sy Hersh's age, after all; kind of a young guy) in "What's the Matter with Kansas?".
Today these hypocrites get totally nuked by a three page (!) front page article in the Times. I generally just post a link, and shut up, but the money quote is way too tempting to let go:
"It's hard to beat up on the government when they've been so good to you," he finally said. "I've never really thought about it, I guess."
That's said by a guy who basically lives off the gummint, but says he's a conservative. These Red State Washington haters are the most benefited by Washington (just look at those beautiful maps). Always have been, going back to at least TVA under FDR. Hypocrites.

There are several steps that could be taken to alleviate some of the worst of our problems:
(1) First and foremost, tax the rich -- at the very least treat all income the same. I advocate a sliding scale for speculative "investments", say 90% tax on profit from investments held a year or less, and sliding down to 40% or so with each passing year that investment is held. Day-traders are a pox on all our houses -- or should I say a foreclosure on all our houses?
(2) Remove the earnings cap on SS and Medicare, all earners should pay on every dollar of income
(3) Needs testing for SS
(4) Medicare for all
(5) Hire regulators who actually believe in regulating
(6) Overturn Citizens United
(7) Deport Karl Rove and all members of any organization whose name contains the words "Heritage" "Liberty" "Family" "Freedom" or "Tax(es)".
Well, (7) might be a bit of hyperbole and wishful thinking. On the other hand, the chances any of that platform getting adopted in this political climate is less than zero.
Uh, No. But it is nice to have the data.
Send Rove off to the Gulag. He'll have plenty of friends.
