Neil Postman: "Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see"
Neil Postman wrote, “Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see.” This is the first sentence of The Disappearance of Childhood, published in 1982 by Delacorte Press.
I totally misunderstood what Neil meant when I first read it and proceeded to take my kids down to the post office to have them weighed, stamped and dispatched. Fortunately the Post Master was also a Postman master and set me straight.
Happy 80th birthday Neil Postman!
