More Right Wing Glurge

Rate: 4 Flag

Like everyone else, I have people send me right wing glurge.  I found this piece to be quite interesting.  I rather doubt that it happened, some of the account seems out of character for the people who have these beliefs.  Anyway, first the glurge as sent to me, then my commentary:

START

I was the guy wearing the black Burberry jacket that you demanded that I hand over, shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend, threatening our lives. You also asked for my girlfriend's purse and earrings. I can only hope that you somehow come across this rather important message.

First, I'd like to apologize for your embarrassment; I didn't expect you to actually crap in your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket. The evening was not that cold, and I was wearing the jacket for a reason. My girlfriend had just bought me that Kimber Model 1911 .45 ACP pistol for my birthday, and we had picked up a shoulder holster for it that very evening.. Obviously you agree that it is a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head ... isn't it?!

I know it probably wasn't fun walking back to wherever you'd come from with that brown sludge in your pants. I'm sure it was even worse walking bare-footed since I made you leave your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me. [That prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us again].

After I called your mother or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, I explained the entire episode of what you'd done. Then I went and filled up my gas tank as well as those of four other people in the gas station, -- on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 150 gallons and was extremely grateful!

I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vinnie Van Go Go's, along with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!]

I then threw your wallet into the big pink "pimp mobile" that was parked at the curb ... after I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver's side of the car.

Later, I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell phone. Ma Bell just now shut down the line, although I only used the phone for a little over a day now, so what 's going on with that? Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible target.

The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.).

In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you ... but I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider, the career path you've chosen to pursue in life. Remember, next time you might not be so lucky.Have a good day!

Thoughtfully yours,

Alex

P.S. Remember this motto ... An armed society makes for a more civil society!

FINISH

Anyway, the right wingers who pass this along think it's grand fun.  I mean, the bad guy gets what's coming to him, doesn't he?  What could be wrong with that?

Actually, plenty.  If the "victim" was in compliance with local gun laws, I can't fault him for using his weapon to stop himself from being mugged.  If that had been the end of it, that would be fine.  I don't like existing gun laws any more than pro-lifers like existing abortion laws, but the laws are what they are.  I don't believe the "victim" would have handed over his jacket before showing his weapon, but that's nitpicking.  I also rather doubt the part about the mugger crapping his pants, amusing if true but doubtful.  Our "hero" doesn't stop with defending himself, he commits armed robbery.  Then he commits credit card fraud.  I doubt that part of the story, I rather doubt common muggers carry valid credit cards on them.  Then he claims to give the shoes to a homeless guy (right, caring about the homeless is such a part of this guy's priorities).  Then he picks out a parked car for felonious destruction of property.  If that wasn't enough, he commits another felony by making a threat against the president.  He uses the old detective show saw about how tracing numbers takes a lot of time (it doesn't).  If the story is true and if the FBI and Secret Service took the threat seriously, he is responsible for wasting government resources to investigate his phony threat.   Since these resources are finite, he is actually endangering the president by doing this, drawing people away from investigating more credible threats.  Finally, he claims that an armed society is a more civil society.  Right.  Those pesky courts and their rules about evidence, who needs 'em?  We can be police, judge, and jury all by ourselves!   God bless the NRA!

What I find interesting about this glurge is what it shows about the right wing psyche.  What I'm reading between the lines is anti-government sentiment (the cops won't help us, it's up to us) mixed with the notion that vigilante justice is a good thing.   This is a dangerous mentality.  We don't need armed thugs enforcing their version of the law or meting out their version of justice.  I hope this yarn is someone's creative writing, but I fear for a nation in which it can actually happen.

99.9% of the right (and 50% of the left) probably fell for this. Anyone who has been around guns, been mugged, and has lived on the edge would know it was bullshit. He would think it was a joke. Me, no. I think it's real.
R~~
This glurge illustrates the simple-mindedness and arrogance of right-wingers; and you know that there are tons of right-wing idiots out there just masturbating to this email.
Sounds suspicious to me. I get a lot of right wing email, and I've never seen anything like the above. Sounds like something liberal dems are sending around to defame right wingers.
I'm not the only one that got it, see here:

It is quite obvious this is a fictional scenario that would likely never occur, due to the several felonies you mentioned at that end.

It is also quite obvious that it was intended to be an exemplum.

Insofar as using a firearm to protect oneself, I am all for it. This kind of bullshit, however, makes all of us who carry look like idiots.

Now I'm all for stupid humor. I'm all for using a humorous story to make a point. I'm just not for this particular bit of rubbish.
Obvious BS from the start. By the time you fumble in your jacket to get a .45 out of a shoulder holster, the mugger has removed one of your ears for show before stabbing you for effect. The only way to use a gun for mugger deterrence is to carry *openly*. Even then there's the scenario of being robbed of and then with your own gun.

Notice how it's always a big gun in these fantasies?

Did you copyright your new word "glurge"? I love it.
GeeBee - at the risk of turning this into a gun debate post, I must beg to differ with your statement about open carry.
I am against open carry, not because of it's ability to 'deter' anyone, but because it gives away the tactical advantage of suprise.
The 'using it against you' scenario is rather rare, but a possiblity which is eliminated by using conceald carry.
Cocealed carry results in a loss of speed in presentation of the weapon, but that can be compensated for in some scenarios.
The key to surviving anything like a mugging or murder attempt is to be situationally aware (which is good if you're armed or not,) and to take action quickly and decisivly.
As far as the person in the above idiotic story using a .45, I believe it was chosen on the basis of it's popularity.
The 1911, introduced into military service in 1911 and was the standard sidearm of the Army until 1985 is somewhat of an American icon. Kimber is a well known manufacturer of these and has seen a dramatic increase in sales in the past four years.
The problem with any self defense scenario or 'brain fantasy' is that when it really comes down to it, the deciding factors will be inititaive, tatical awareness, proficiency (read: training/experience) and luck, which can screw over anyone.

ok, said my peace, I'm out.
