Christine O'Donnell "One Night Stand" Attack Ridiculous

Rate: 34 Flag

What if Christine O'Donnell, then a 17 year-old high school student, had once told a boy that she already had a prom date, but the truth was that she was holding out in the hopes that Billy Johnson would invite her.  I can see the headline now.

"O'Donnell Lied, Held Out For Better Prom Date."

Another reason to not vote for her, right?

*    *    *    *

Christine O'Donnell has given the voters of Delaware plenty of reasons to vote for her opponent, but the "fact" that she had a Heineken-fueled, sexless, makeout session is not one of them.

If this story is true, and the sourcing is dubious at best, who cares?

Here's the story.  Three years ago O'Donnell, single, met a guy, had a few beers, made out with him on the couch, ended up in bed with him, wanted to preserve her virginity, and decided not to have intercourse with him.

"Woman Gets a Buzz, Makes Out, Decides to Remain a Virgin, Puts Her Clothes Back On."

If that doesn't disqualify Ms. O'Donnell from serving in the United States Senate I don't know what does.

Maybe Gawker can pursue the rumor that O'Donnell once swooned while listening to a "Bon Jovi" CD.

"Fourteen Year-Old O'Donnell Admits That Jon Bon Jovi Made Her Feel Light Headed.

Why are women who aspire to political office at the mercy of gossip sites that dig up unimportant stories about their sex lives?

It takes a lot to get me to stick up for Christine O'Donnell.  Her political positions are bad for the country.  Her illegal use of campaign funds to pay personal bills is a valid issue.  Even her admission that she "dabbled in witchcraft" at the very least raises a legitimate red flag about her past.

But the "fact" that she had a few beers and made out with some guy is not only not an issue, it's an embarrassment that the story got any attention.

The "fact" that she may have behaved in a way that's unbecoming of a young Christian woman only illustrates how difficult it is to reconcile moral beliefs with real-world needs and desires.  That makes her human, not a hypocrite.

Why should a woman have to worry that having a few beers and making out with someone might become a campaign issue three years or twenty years down the road?

"Women Avoid Seeking Political Office, Don't Want Their Sex Lives Made Public."

That's the headline that we'll soon be seeing.

Thank you for writing this, Roger.

There is plenty to fault O'Donnell for, namely her lack of experience and her stand on important issues.

But this anonymous smear is contemptible, and I think it does have the potential for making any woman think twice about running for public office. I really got angry when I read this person's description of the state of O'Donnell's pubic hair. Jesus Christ, are women going to be publicly humiliated now if they don't wax?

I hope his identity does become public, so that all women will know to stay far, far away from him.
First of all, some dope had enough class to buy her the Heineken. Since women never bring beer to parties, the fact that the guy didn't shove Keystone Light in her greedy paws is an issue. "I bought you Heineken, I should be getting laid right now" comes to mind. There's a betrayal issue here, Roger.
Christine O'Donnell is seeking political power and her whole history suggests that she really just wants to be a celebtity and profit from it. If ihe story if true, it exposes the hypocrisy of her silly anti-sex league masturbation prevention campaign. She's an inherently ridiculos person. If you can't take the heat, etc. The anecdote related is trivial, at best, and the supposed controversy about its publication is pointless.
Roger, I agree. I cannot stand her, but this guy is just a creep! R
Jeanette, I hadn't read the part about her pubic hair. That changes everything.

Good point Conrad... Heineken is the good stuff.

Peter, Christine O'Donnell is a terrible candidate and would, in my opinion be a disaster in the Senate. No argument here.
I've got mixed emotions here...

On one hand it pisses me off that ANY woman (even stupid, weird, fundie ones) gets crap like this flung in her direction, where if she were male it either wouldn't have ever been dug up or it would have caused a bunch of old guys to wink at each other. So much for the Democrats believing in women's equality (freak'in hypocrites!)

On the other hand, swooning over Bon Jovi is grounds for disqualification from any political office, in my mind (Siouxsie Sioux, Dead Kennedys, The Ramones, okay... but Bon Freak'in Jovi??? EWWW).
Being a creationist does it for me...

And I would have liked her better if she had just fucked the guy.
God wants us to have sex. Otherwise why did he make it feel so good?
Good comments. Good post. R
This is why I'd never be able to run for any office. Not having sex after sharing some beer would be the highlight of the Gawker expose they'd use on me. Come to think of it, that might actually be the play by play of practically every date I've ever been on.....
Yep. The details of her make-out session don't belong on the 'net. Totally irrelevant. There's lots of legitimate reasons not to vote for her!
Amen. There are good reasons not to vote for her, but this is just a good reason not to read Gawker. (Who the hell is Gawker, anyway?)
The boor who posted this story on Gawker makes Christine O'Donnell a sympathetic figure. I can make fun of her for when she opens her mouth and says stupid stuff, but this type of humiliation is unnecessary and inappropriate.
My making out to The Moonglows in '63 got into the Jenkintown (:PA) Journal-American and it ruined my political career, too. I feel her pain, boy. r.
A good point and an excellent post, Roger. I would have a real problem ever voting for O'Donnell, (fortunately she isn't a candiddate in my state) but stories such as this one aren't the reason. They say more about her accusers than they do about her.
Incredible. We need a zone of privacy for beer-fueled make-out sessions, or they'll have to empty out all three branches of government.
I was going to run for President but my mom caught me whacking off and told me she would call the Enquirer if I did. She had always wanted be to follow in the family business. Garbage collecting.
Look she's not going to win, so the whole question of her "suitablity for office" is moot. But when the Rethugs come out with guns blazing at everyone else Christine the Teenage Witch is fair game.

Payback's a bitch -- but not as big a bitch as I am.

Everytime I see her face the last line of Oscar Wilde's "Salome" springs to mind.
And as you know, this has now been de-bunked. It's a political smear. All of America watches and will remember Whitman being called a Whore, O'Donnell being called a Bitch, Palin being called a White Supremicist. We won't even go into the names Hilary Clinton has been called, solely gender-specific names. And look who is doing the name calling. Nice.
That's true, trying to brand with a scarlet letter. She may be an idiot and a liar in many ways, but her dating life really isn't our business. However, if she remains a virgin at her age, she probably has some serious mental and emotional maturity issues that need help, not public office, to get sorted out.
I can't defend Christine O'Donnell, but I can say that Gawker hasn't been relevant the beginning of time.
"All of America watches and will remember Whitman being called a Whore, O'Donnell being called a Bitch, Palin being called a White Supremicist. "

WelL calling Whitman a whore is unfair. She's a rapist-enabler

As for O'Donnell she IS a bitch and palin IS a White Supremacist.
He's Christine threatening a radio interview with physical violence from one of her staffers, if she doesn't get her way.

To quote Tink regarding her purported humanity "Pfft".
I mean do we have to live in our rational brain hemisphere all of the time?
Can't we enjoy our political enemies discomfiture just a little bit before the fifteen minutes are up?
Claiming not to have had sex with the masseuse in a hotel room was enough to cost Chuck Robb the bubba vote in Virginia. Half thought he was a liar and the rest thought he couldn't get it up.
I'm conflicted! Part of me has resented this intrusively nasty aspect of politics for a long time. But getting elected has always been as much about character, honesty and integrity as it is about charisma.

Part of me resents "man up" and "whore" as a way to get a couple of upward ticks in the polls.

Part of me is enjoying the fact that she has been served that which she is more than ready to dish out.

Congrats on the EP!
Her lack of experience and general unreadiness to serve in the Senate are grounds to not send her there. Don't vote for a ditz.

But even given that she's a ditz, it's definitely unfair to drag things she did in High School into this campaign when they don't have any bearing on current facts. Everyone does dumb things, now and then. Most of us just learn not to do them as frequently as we become adults.

Making women appear stupid in the public eye is not hard, for men either. But smear campaigns go on happening, and that is exactly what this is. Nobody should haved their lives smeared this way, of either side of the stripe....
She's not a ditz -- she's a thug.
I agree. Why was that story even written? No one writes about her actual politics. It's just always about stupid shit they can dig up. Some might argue though, that that IS politics. Ridiculous!

Great post though!
Here Roger -- I've put the video up on my "Open Salon" site.
Take a look.

Your thoughts on it would be much appreciated.

Woman up Christine. Time to put your big-girl panties on now.
The attacks bring sympathy for her. It clogs up what would be serious discussion with "thrills": fodder for young liberals and young conservatives who'll defend her.
Personally, I could care less, I just want those people who support our "world police force" out of office. Sure I pin a lot of hope on reform...but I think new blood might not still be fighting WW2
This is the first time I have heard about the issue of waxing or not and its relation to pubic office.
Time to put your Sports Bra on, Roger.
I don't think she is anymore bizarre than the people already in the Senate which has the same stem as senile and has to do with age. I actually like her and I am just to the right of Karl Marx. The hidden ambition of politicians is something most people don't think about. The really ambitious ones never show it but make it appear as if they are called upon, ie George Washington, Abraham Lincoln. I find her charming. I don't wonder why monkeys aren't still involving but I do wonder why trees stopped evolving millions of years ago.
You find he charming Mr. Price? Check out this link where you can see Christine in action.

Thanks for writing this, Roger. I agree that women should not be held to any particular standards because of their sex lives. But do we really do it any more with women than men? I don't think so, I think we just deem it less important when it's a man.
Oh really Fay?

Apparently you've fogotten the Clinton impeachment and the MILLIONS spent on it.
Roger, I can't stand her, but you are so right. ~r
thanks, Roger. we should not care about anyone's sex life unless there is a victim involved. everyone did dumb stuff as teenagers...that is how we learn. anonymous attacks are wrong. we should care that she does not appear to have the knowledge and intelligence (and sincerity) to function as an elected official. she is cute (Hell, Sarah Palin is cute) but that is not a qualification to represent someone and govern.
There is nothing "cute" about her. She is an evil and viscious woman, who will stop at nothing to get her way. "Cute" is an act. She's a thug.
Just rating for an ain't this the truth kinda reason.
As I was reading this, I kept thinking about the fact that Clinton was investigated and publicly humiliated for...well...you know. Yes, there are those who feel that his lack of judgment for doing these things at the White House on our dime was good enough reason. I'm...not one of those people. I am, in fact, consistently amazed that we allow ourselves to be sidetracked by this nonsense.

As for O'Donnell...she's an excrutiatingly awful candidate who shouldn't even be allowed to lead TOURS of the Senate, given the misinformation she might spout to tourists about American history and government.

That's what we need to remember. I hadn't read about the pubic hair thing, but...I'll pass, thanks...
The description of O'Donnell's make-out session was not only irrelevant but anonymous. We have absolutely no way of fact-checking it, and the only "evidence" of its being true are pretty innocent pictures of her in the ladybug Halloween costume that's described.

And, of course, since pictures are digital now, it isn't that hard for someone to get a hold of candid snapshots of a politician and make up a story about them. There was no reason for O'Donnell NOT to pass her Halloween pictures on to family and friends because no one anywhere on the political spectrum would care that O'Donnell dressed up as a ladybug at a costume party.

I don't know or care whether anything in the "I Almost Had Sex With Christine O'Donnell" piece is true. It's all completely irrelevant to whether she'd be good representation for the state of Delaware.
