While giving a campaign speech in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, GOP presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann made an interesting comment on the possible relationship between Cuba and Hezbollah.
From Raw Story:
“There is (sic) reports that have come out that Cuba has been working with another terrorist organization called Hezbollah. And Hezbollah is looking at wanting to be part of missile sites in Iran and, of course, when you are 90 miles offshore from Florida, you don’t want to entertain the prospect of hosting bases or sites where Hezbollah could have training camps or perhaps have missile sites or weapons sites in Cuba. ”
The piece in Raw Story went on to speculate that "Bachmann was most likely basing her fear on an unsubstantiated report from the Italian publication, "Corriere della Sera," which was picked up by numerous conservative websites earlier this month (see here, here, here and here.) Even if that report were true, it makes absolutely no mention of “missile sites.”
As a member of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Congresswoman Bachmann has access to classified information regarding any and all threats to the United States. She recently stated:
"I'm a member of the Permanent Select Committee in the House of Representatives on the Intelligence. We deal with the nation's classified secrets and I am regularly briefed on the threats that the United States receives, both within our borders and both externally against our borders."
Is it possible that Hezbollah missile sites in Cuba are not the over-the-top rants of a woman given to over-the-top rants? Yes.
Is it possible that this is an actual threat, detailed in classified documents that Ms. Bachmann regularly receives? Yes.
Could Ms. Bachmann face impeachment, fines, prison time, and even execution for disclosing classified military secrets? Yes.
Chances are that the Congresswoman was just blowing smoke and trying to inject some life into her struggling campaign.
Is it at least worth looking into? Why not.

No. Not in this political environment -- can you imagine the shit storm that would raise on the already paranoid rabid Right? The real question is what is someone so obviously intellectually and temperamentally ill-suited doing on that committee in the first damned place? And that is a reflection on John Weepy Boner
