To say that Mitt Romney is a flip-flopper is a little like saying that Charlize Theron is a reasonably attractive woman.
Most of Romney's "flipiousity" has been focused on health care, abortion rights, tax increases and whether or not he had a man-crush on Ronald Reagan. Very little attention has been paid to Romney's shifting views on campaign finance.
During the 1994 Senate race between Mitt Romney and Ted Kennedy, Romney forcefully laid out his concerns regarding the toxic effect that too much (Kennedy) money has on politics.
Later in the speech Romney went on to decry the use of PACS, basically saying that he has no use for them.
Now flash forward to the 2012 Presidential campaign as Mr. Romney stutters and stammers his way through a question from a woman who is clearly concerned with the appearance of wrongdoing on Romney's part.
(Romney did so well fielding this question it's obvious that he won't have any trouble debating President Obama.)
Romney mentions "a guy named Ed Conard" as if he barely knows who he is. Then he comes semi-clean as he slips the word "partner" into his explanation. Ed Conard was one of Romney's business partners at Bain Capital. The 2012 Romney is okay with the idea of "a guy named Ed Conard" giving him a million dollars for his campaign. Romney's caveat that "He's given me money before,"makes it all okay.
If Mitt Romney was to be believed in 1994 he would have been disgusted by that amount of money coming into his campaign. After all, a person that gives a million dollars will expect something in return. Romney said so himself.
Since Mr. Romney admitted that large amounts of cash will influence the way he governs, it might be telling to see who has been slipping $1,000 bills into his pocket.
Employees of the following companies have donated the most money to Mitt Romney's 2012 campaign:
Kirkland & Ellis $201,701
Breathe easy one percenters. If all goes right in November nobody will fuck with you. You will be able to continue to steal with impunity. Mr. Romney knows who butters his bread.
