In soft breezes
Aspen leaves
Beg to fly away
Tiny angels tied by stems
To the earth
Milkweed pods
Express
Their sticky white
Mother’s milk
So that
Tiny red damselflies
Are strong enough
To unite and fertilize
Their eggs
Hummingbirds become
Delightfully plump
Twice their size
Taking to the sky
And finding a spot of warmth
Ducks and Geese
Make perfect V’s
Trying to stay
Out of the
Hunter’s sites
To find a place
Where lakes
Do not freeze
Wooly bear
Caterpillars
Thicken up their coats
To spend the winter
Inside a rock
Or open up a spot
Inside the bark
Of a lonely tree
North Country folks stay to
Freeze
Whichever body part
Not kept well covered
Or
Head to hot places
To become
Snow Birds

I do feel like a snow bird at times.
Thank you.
We noticed flocks of geese in our area recently. It is time once again.
The Bay is slightly cooler but weather still in 70's and will soon again be back up in 80-90 range for a nice Indian summer!
I love your beautiful poem with poetic nuances for the changing season and it's subtle affect on mother nature and her young.
I'll be surrounded by trees this weekend and I'll be looking at the leaves and smile as I remember that line.
from Wikipedia:
"The V formation greatly boosts the efficiency and range
of flying birds, particularly over long migratory routes.
All the birds except the first
fly in the upwash from the wingtip vortices of the bird ahead.
The upwash assists each bird
in supporting its own weight in flight.
In a V formation of 25 members, each bird
can achieve a reduction of induced drag by up to 65%
and as a result increase their range by 71%..
Also!: The birds flying at the tips and at the front
are rotated in a timely cyclical fashion to spread flight fatigue equally among the flock members.
The formation also makes communication easier
and allows the birds to maintain visual contact with each other."

Thanks for providing us all with your vortices, angel:
"Wingtip vortices are tubes of circulating air that are left behind a wing as it generates lift "
Love the words

I learnt something new too! I haven't heard of damselflies before .... I've just lumped them all under the name of dragonflies. : )
May we all find lakes that do not freeze.

I loved the flow and images, but these last lines I could picture! Not sure if Germans are Snow Birds, too. Because winter is worshiped here.
Great to read some of your work. Been reading your comments at different blogs.
Your poem makes it even better, RP ~
