Duke Ellington On Broadway and Bird In the Movies

Rate: 5 Flag
Had enough of the murder, incest, political lies, humorless diatribes about sexless marriages and addicted offspring and the Wicked Witch of Wasilla?  Get more out of life. Go get some popcorn and rent/buy a CD that has a good story and/or some good music, sit back and relax...If you've been reading what's been posted at OS lately you've earned a break.... Here are just a couple of recommendations:

 Duke's Sophisticated Ladies

"Bird" The Charlie Parker Story,Clint Eastwood's masterpiece about an American music icon.   Starring Forest Whitaker in what is arguably the best performance of his illustrious career.  Academy Award winner for Best Actor 1988

A much needed repite, as you say. Thanks for sharing, and I LOVE that poster.

Amen to what JB said. I've retired and hung up my gloves. These whack jobs on here can continue to be idiots, I'll resign to being a bit more enlightened.
Man, I was listening to Duke and Trane earlier on my iPod. Such a sweet album. Trane and Hartman too. Loved that period of his career.
Thanks. There's always a sublime elegance to Ellington. So much of his work is so incredible. Always thought "I Let A Song Get Out of My Heart" was an underappreciated number of his.

I really liked the Parker flick with one exception: I didn't cotton to Whittaker's portrayal of Bird onstage, which was the antithesis of Bird's actual demeanor while "in flight." Charlie Parker was actually known for his frozen stoicism with the horn in his mouth, something that at one time earned him the nickname "Indian" among a few fellow musicians.

Rated.
@jb, I have an original copy that I purchased at the theater the night the play opened on broadway...It's absolutely amazing.....

@KOB, What's not to like about Ellington...?

@KL, There were times when people would wonder if he was conscious...too difficult to film....after all it's the MOVIES...
A lovely break - and thank goodness - I thought you might be taking off from OS! Have to listen to these one at a time to give them their due. Thank you for the music!!
@dcvdickens, I have considered leaving for a variety of reasons. Being able to post with music sort of helps keep me around.....
I need a break too! Jazz and Blues wash some of the stink that piles up around us mon! thanx
@pd, You are very welcome, as always....
