While Rome Burns.........

Rate: 4 Flag

Rumor had it that during the Great Roman Fire in A.D. 64, Nero was busy  standing in a tower playing a fiddle while watching Rome burn.

Yesterday, we find out from CBS's Mark Knoller, that President Obama has tied his predecessor in rounds of golf. However, it took Bush 43 two years and ten months to do it.

This is particularly amusing in light of the lefts excoriation of Bush for spending so much time on vacation. The Obama's also love to party. A recent Air America headline: "White House Hotspot: The Obamas Love To Party."

In fact, the parties take place almost daily. In addition to the regular Wednesday cocktail parties there are many other gigs and balls regularly going on in the White House. Then there are the taxpayer supported dates and trips the Obama's take. Other Presidents have done this as well, but none has matched the Obama's frequency thus far.

In other news, 14 more Americans died in Afghanistan as a result of combat related helicopter crashes. Say what you will about the justification of the conflicts Bush started, but he personally wrote over four thousand condolence letters to the families of our soldiers who were killed in action, whereas Obama just throws another cocktail party.

More left wing hypocrisy in action. It's not OK for Bush to hit the Western White House, but it's cool if Obama parties every night on the taxpayer's dime while we have serious issues that need the FULL TIME attention of the President.

Won't you take me to party town...........
It is okay for the Elite, the masses are here to support them. We obviously have no other use but to cut more checks.
HTB quote:" It is okay for the Elite, the masses are here to support them. "

BINGO.
RW, old buddy, this is the vey reason I shy away from political commentary in this site or any other site on the internet. I tend to have a rather caustic sense of humor and when I slam a man four years or more for his seemingly callous attitude toward the state of the nation, i.e.: "Fiddling while Rome Burns", then my guy wins, gets into office and does the same thing. I really hate that cause then I look like a hyprocrite. And make no mistake about it...they all do virtually the same thing.

Now those who bashed Bush with their rightful indignation find themselves in the uncomfortable position of defending much the same behavour in the man they backed. My ole daddy use to always say: "Son, you better love the words you speak, because sooner or later you may have to eat them."
It seems that the play is the same, we have just changed the cast of characters.
Rated.
Wow, your "because I said so" argument sure has convinced me. Hey, ever seen those photos of bush singing "Happy Birthday McCainy!!!" while a thousand Americans died in New Orleans? Or how about him peeing his pants while 3000 people died on Sept. 11th? Remember those? When President Obama stands by while Americans die then feel free to come on here and throw your little bitch fit. Until then, hypocrite thy name is conservative.
The irony of the presidency is that it takes years, decades in fact to determine if a president was truly effective or not. Most of us get caught up in the small ball issue of whether or not we like the guy. Well, I have no idea if I like the president. I don't know him. It's unlikely I will ever meet him. So far I think he's trying hard to accomplish his goals. Goals that for the most part are counter to my wishes for the country.

I have no problem with that, oddly enough. So far I haven't felt the urge to call a president, any president names, or suggest he's stupid, uncaring, evil, or an elite-ist. I'm perfectly comfortable with the idea that I will disagree to some degree with every president. That's actually part of what makes this country great. You see, I'm only right inasmuch as any concept pertains to me. As it pertains to you, or anyone else, I'm just voicing an opinion. Just like everyone else.

Yeah, I wish there were fewer parties and less golf. But I don't really care one way or the other. As long as the people keep going to work, doing their job, and moving humanity forward - the politicians are of less and less interest to me.
Good point Torman.

Ocular, we got folks like you on the right side of the aisle too. Your tunnel vision will never let you see the big picture. See Torman's reply.

A diplomatic answer Jamie. Thanks for visiting.
Hypocrisy knows no political party. I had my problems with Bush, and I disdain some of Obama's decisions. But I doubt his continuos [?] partying keeps him from condolences and grief for the fallen. Given that Bush wrote over four thousand condolence letters saddens me. Your comparisons made are like saying Jello is better than ice cream. History will sort out the palate's confusion. ~R~
rw, my beef with GW Bush was that he was devastatingly incompetent (and/or malevolent), and for me his constant vacations at staggering taxpayers expense were merely the symbol of his fecklessness. But if he had been a decent president, and hadn't essentially blown Afghanistan, Iraq and the US all to hell, I wouldn't have cared if he took twice as many vacations. The same with Obama. If he does a good job (not much sign of that yet, but I'm still hopeful), I don't care how many golf balls he hits or how many cocktail parties he throws, if that's what makes the man happy. Balls and booze are cheaper than bombs, and I'd sure prefer to see him dressed up in party attire than in a dorky flight suit with a ludicrous stuffed crotch. Granted, if Obama screws up, even one party is too many. But if we're talking about expenses, considering that it cost taxpayers upwards of $36,000 AN HOUR just to fly Bush's sorry backside to Crawford, TX of all places on Air Force One every couple of weeks, the Obamas and their White House parties look like a downright bargain so far.

Rated for bringing up the issue!

Me thinks ocular needs to clean his glasses; this is exactly what Obama is doing in Afghanistan. And oh by the way, the removal of the barriers in the green zone in Bahgdad killed how many? And why is it just American lives that count? Hmmm...is it possible idealism creates ocular nervosa?
Chuck Stetson quote: "Hypocrisy knows no political party."

Absolutely true Chuck.......and I never claimed to be a good speller/typist.

I'm not entirely with you on Bush Alan, but if either he or Obama were doing a Cracker jack job I agree I would be more tolerant of a vacation or two. Obama needs to get his act together, then worry about the cocktail parties....and Michelle does not need 26 personal assiatants.

That's a big 10-4, HardTo Bear.
