Anyone got a lighter?
My parents said this about the 60s, too. I knew I became my father when I told my 16 year daughter who was listening to hip-hop, "turn down that noise."

You can bring back the fifties if you like, but you have bring back the tax rates, too.
OE, I'd actually consider that.
I like the videos except the last one. He ignored the main point. Detroit collapsed because the auto industry collapsed. Duh!

The auto industry collapsed because of free trade deals with Mexico and China and whatnot, that allowed us to outsource industry and manufacturing abroad, allowing "american" industries to layoff millions of workers.

This guy is a tool of Wall Street and Financiers.

His green cars argument is a straw man. No leftist every said the US car industry collapsed because of a lack of granola-mobiles. No. The US auto industry collapsed because of Wall Street induced free trade. The greed of banksters, money-lenders and financiers. That is what destroyed the auto industry.

The banks lent the car industry money and made them dependent upon the banks. The banks then pushed the companies to outsource, because they could get higher profit margins with foreign, low-wage labor.

THe goal to our nation's problems are simple. We must destroy the financial class. By all means necessary.
Rw, he somewhat misses the true big picture, but makes a few good points.

We know, however, what the core issue is.
No way! We have come a long way to be where we are. Its best now. :)
Nostalgia has its place though!
Bring back the marginal tax rates, and bring back the unions.
This was America in the 50s, at the height of New Deal liberalism.
Notice it far out-performed the "conservative" No Deal America of today.
I don't know Traveller, I kind of prefer the good ol' days. (coupled with the modern technology of today though)
That's the thing P.J.; I never thought, as a pro-capitalist, I would say this, but today's corporate exects are so selfish and greedy that we need some type of wealth redistribution--at least in some areas.

The unions used to be somewhat useful, but they have become as greedy as the big-wigs they hate and they too need to be reigned in.
Alright rw, I don’t think America ever really resembled your first video. That was a trailer for Leave it to Beaver. Did you ever by any chance watch or read Gangs of New York or Stephen Crane’s , Maggie: a Girl of the Streets. If you prefer rural poverty then check out the plays of Tennessee Williams. As far as Detroit's concerned you sound just like my father used to: “everything the niggers get they destroy”. Maybe things would have worked out differently there if Clinton had not flooded its streets with CIA Cocaine through his surrogate drug dealers the Chambers brothers.
Sadly, Wal Mart destroys towns like those we see in the first video. Sad.
CA, am I a pessimist or a realist? As for Detroit, you have to figure that the population has gone from two million to eight hundred thousand, with 28% of the remaining populace unemployed. No doubt, Detroit is a craphole.

Jack, you are correct in the fact that our own government is behind much of the domestic drug trade, and the outcome bothers them not.

Rw005g, yes, Wal-Mart destroyed much of small town America. I'm not one for big government, but if I could, I would seize Wal-Mart.....turn it into an ESOP and run the surviving Walton heirs out of town.
What's needed for a final clip would be a Third Reich or "relocation camp" footage. Like Camp FEMA.
America speaks with its wallet and we got what was well paid for Nutjob. We sold out small business and installed big box.
The greatest bank robbery/snow job in history went by without an arrest and nearly not a peep from the mass media.
All the true wealth maker employment moved overseas.
And the rich are still laughing at us all.
The boomer generation lost its collective ass.
That may be coming sooner than we think joe.

You are absolutely correct Mission.
