Top places to stay in Auburn, California

Rate: 0 Flag

Beautiful Auburn, California is the perfect getaway for nature lovers and those looking for some fun and relaxation. It rests near the scenic Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Tahoe National Forest. Auburn’s own State Recreational Area is a 40-mile nature park, once home to thousands of gold miners, is now a hotspot for a wealth of outdoor activities, such as hiking, boating, fishing, horse-riding and rafting. Auburn also offers great selection of golf courses and skiing. These features draw hundreds of thousands of visitors a year to enjoy this vast and attractive area, and makes many want to call this area home.

Here are my top picks for places to stay when visiting Auburn:

Power’s Mansion

This Victorian-style mansion is a big part of Auburn’s history. Built in 1884 by Harold T. Power with the gold he discovered in the Hidden Treasure mine. While being carefully restored in 2004 with modern luxury, convenience and technology, it still showcases the Gold Rush era’s opulent style to take you back to a different time. Since its renovation, Power’s Mansion has claimed the Auburn Journal’s “Best of the Best” Award five years running. There are 15 guest rooms, all with their own private bath and individual themes to pick from, make sure to visit their website to check them out. This mansion is also very popular for weddings or parties. It features a special wedding suite, a beautiful ballroom and outdoor facilities, all in its classic Victorian style. Another recent addition here was an Irish Pub serving delicious food and craft beer. This mansion is also only a short stroll to lovely Old Town Auburn for great restaurants, shopping and entertainment.

Monte Verde Inn

Another Auburn staple, the Monte Verde Inn was originally built in the 1850s gold rush and in is located in near-by Forest Hill. It was first remodelled in 1939 but was accidently burnt down, but was re-built even better on the same foundation. It was expanded in 1964 to include more acreage and a fine supper club. In the mid 1980s it found new owners who made extensive renovations and intricate landscaping, giving it its current name. So book a room here to experience the authentic old country elegance of Monte Verde.

Christmas Tree Vineyard Lodge

This is the perfect choice to get away from it all while still remaining close and convenient to Auburn. While semi-secluded in the highlands of the Tahoe National Forest it is great any time of year. In the winter it is truly a Christmas wonderland filled with pristine snow, allowing for fun snow activities. In the summer, it offers its gorgeous natural surroundings with a break from the intense summer heat. This makes this location a family tradition for residents of Auburn during any season. This traditional lodge also offers rustic rooms that feature no tvs, radios or phones to help you escape the distractions of modern life, and get in-tune with nature.
