The Safe_Bet Project - Str8s For Equality

Welcome to The Safe_Bet Project.

Here you will find solidarity; here you will find camaraderie and here you will find some of the best writing about LGBTQIA equality every assembled in one location.

What makes this group of posts supportive of LGBTQIA equality different from the norm is that they have all been written by some of the best heterosexual writers in OS.

The Safe_Bet Project is named after my late wife Suzy / Safe_Bet who passed away this last January.   She was always a huge advocate of equality, but at the same time she had so many straight friends that she dearly loved.  Many of them will be represented by their posts here.

Her friends will vouch that she was one of the most loving person in the world and she wanted everyone to get along and be equal. She hated no one, if you don’t count hate mongers, bigots, homophobes, racists, asshats and the guy down the street that never picked up his dog poop.

Seriously,  The Safe_Bet Project is a forum for our straight, hetero “Allies and Friends” to express their different takes on equality.   Therefore, the goal of The Safe_Bet Project is to provide a comprehensive group of posts, in support of LGBTQIA equality, written by straight, heterosexual writers.

There are a multitude of posts, blogs, etc. where queer folk tell each other about equality, but there are damn few where straight people voice their support.  This one will be all about how equality is perceived through "straight eyes" as opposed to "queer eyes".  I think that the whole will be greater than the sum of its parts (posts), especially when great writers are creating them.

If you'd like to participate the guidelines are simple.  You can write about anything you’d like, as long as it supports LGBTQIA equality.  If you want to use a post that you’ve written in the past that is fine, as well. The only real criteria are that they be well written and edited, are 400 – 800 words in length (we could go to 1,000 if it is a FANTASTIC post) and that, as a favor to me because I have a VERY warped sense of humor, no matter how weighty or sober your post might be, I’d like to get to chuckle at least once while reading it.

Once your post is written, PM me with a link and I will include it in this post and in the links on the left side of this blog.

Here is a REALLY cool part!  The good  folks at Our Big Gayborhood  are going to let me select a post every month or so to be included on their blog here on OS and on their site, http://www.ourbiggayborhood.com/. (Of course, you will get full credit and all of the corresponding fame and accolades.)

So, welcome to the The Safe_Bet Project, where everyone is welcome and everyone is equal.

What a very cool idea. I hope everyone jumps right in!
Whoo Hoo! I've already received notice from two of the best known writer's on this site that they are going to be participating! YAY!
Including you too, LL2??? *evil grin*
YAY! I just heard from a couple more! One is an academic type dude (and a great friend of my Suzy's) who said "the subject will be theologically/historically based and therefore probably entirely too academic for any normal human being. That's cuz I'm a great fan of John Boswell."

Sarge, I have GOT to introduce you to Lady History. You two are going to get along GREAT! ;-)
Count me as an *In* Amy.

Lezlie
What a fantastic idea, and a wonderful tribute to your loving wife. Count me in.
Count me in, darlin'.

You are IT.
what a wonderful project! i look forward to reading the posts! the whole hetero thing disqualifies me, but i can't wait to see how this evolves.
Excellent idea. I can't wait to see the posts that come out of Safe_Bet's Project..
Suzy was a incredible person, and a great friend to have here on OS.

Does my "Bitch Boots, Louisville Slugger, and Chain Saw" story count for equality? I am just joking.
{{HUGS}}
Count me in, too. And I'm sending you a link to one of my fave posts.
This is a worthy project; I'll do what I can.
Thank you Melissa, Lea and RJH. You chicks rock!
What a great project, Amy. Thanks for doing this.

My contribution is in my blog.
Thank you froggy, Amanda & Walter. Hugs and thanks.
Glad to be a part of this. Thank you.
Thanks for this great idea. I have always thought that people are people, we all crave love. Why are some people so crazy if a man loves a man or a woman loves a woman. Life is tough enough, why do certain other people piss on the parade? Thanks once again! R
L & FLW: I can't wait to see your posts. If they are your usual level then they will be fantastic!
Thank you, Mary & Steve. Your contributions are much appreciated.
Looks like have gotten a pretty good start on this amazing and incredible project of yours. I have been giving it a some thought and I will let you know if I could but with anything. I just personally think everyone should be equal and treated as equal no matter what road they chose in life.. My 2 cents. But I will come up with something (try to anyway). Since you would let me use my bitch boots story,, you do know I am joking about that right?
Safe_bet was a great, caring and loving friend to me, and she was always by my side no matter what I could count you her, and I am feeling the same about you also.. Both of you are great and wonder people.. Love and hugs.
Thank you Kathy, you ROCK! (Suzy used to adore Sir Elton, btw. Thanks for a nice " memory nudge"!)
I put up a blog.
Does it make it better knowing I'm a conservative?
Awesome . . . simply awesome . . .
@Two Thumbs - yes. Yes it does.
I'm late getting here, but I'm thinking. What's the deadline on this? I hate playing catch-up. But I'm committed now. I'll think of something...thinking...thinking...I'll be baaaack. Promise.
Thank you, Two Thumbs and Moistowelette. Great posts!
Back. I posted I forgive my lesbian loves - the project and for PattyJane's open call on forgiveness. Thank you all for the opportunity to try my clumsy hand once again at the gentle art of poetry.
Thank you Matt, Lorraine & Grif. Wonderful, wonderful pieces!
Thank you Lawless Lawyer and additional thanks to Kathy and RJ for "seconds!"
This is so great! kudos.
Posting something tomorrow, Amy!
I am not exactly sure what I have to do, but I want to support you. Send me a PM if you want. Thanks.
What a wonderful project! I'm sure I have something to fit the criteria...will dig. Hope you're hanging in there. Peace and love.
Wow. Now THAT'S what I call a response!
Boy, I have a lot of reading to catch up on. :)

Thanks for doing this. You're amazing.

Oh, and I promise to write something very soon.

You rock!
