Weight Loss Journal - Week 11 - Back on Track

Rate: 7 Flag

thumbnail

I am happy to report that I have finally fallen off the plateau. I'm wondering, though, if I'm going to plateau after each loss of ten pounds. My progress is slow. After 11 weeks of trying, I'm down by only 11 pounds. Still, a weight loss  averaging a pound a week is more likely to stay off and lead to permanent changes in eating habits.

The increased length of daylight is helping my mental state as well. It's making me feel stronger. I'm not about to live on garden salads. I still seek comfort food in the winter months, but as Alysa suggests in her post about skinny French women, it's portion control that counts.

I hate to think what my genetic profile suggests as far as body type is concerned. In fact, I refuse to think about it. But when I weighed 110 pounds, I liked my body. I thought I looked slender and graceful, although certainly not voluptuous. Sophia Loren I'm not and never could be. I was more like a shorter version of Grace Kelly. I have better muscle tone now than when I was in my teens and twenties, which I see as a good thing. I will never have Janet Jackson's abs, though.

I have been eating three meals a day at about 8, 12, and 6 o'clock with a small snack around three o'clock. The curious thing is that I feel like eating my evening meal at 4 o'clock, but who does that? And maybe if I tried, I would end up snacking all evening.

As usual, I am happy to digest any tips you send my way and am grateful for your support and encouragement. Thanks.

A pound a week is plenty. I never see why people who want to lose weight, want to lose it all at one time. It took time to gain, it will take time to lose. You're doing great!
I am doing the dance of joy for you right here in my kitchen!

Way to go!! Yay!!!

Since Jan. 5 I'm down 4 pounds and 3 percentage points in body fat. So we're both averaging a pound a week. :)
I think looking at your average weight loss over a period of time instead of focusing on what happens in the short term is a much more healthy approach. There are many factors that affect weight loss, including fluid retention, hormonal changes, etc. So keep the big picture in mind. And congratulations!
I have switched my cravings for sweets with baked sweet potatoes and lunch with salad and a few pieces of the sugar free DARK chocolate no sugar by Simply Lite.. anything thing else in sugar free will not do.
It is so hard when you are a celiac but this seems to be balancing me out cravings wise. whatever works..
HUGGGGGGGGGG
I eat at 5 hahaha
I've not been on OS for a few weeks so I'll have to go back and read about what you've been experiencing. I'm so glad the plateau is now back up hill. It goes so slowly, doesn't it? The important part is that progress is being made.
scanner, Itas just that I long to be thin once again. I'll just have to stay motivated.
V, Great news for both of us, it seems.
Maurene, Thanks. I can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can get back on my bike.
Linda, I've been eating 50 calorie peppermint patties for dessert. I wish I didn't crave sweets. I keep fantasizing about gelato.
Chrissie, I'm hoping it will go better now that I'm off the plateau.
I love the sense of peace and balance here - and I love your thought that weight loss over a more extended period of time might promise a greater chance of keeping it off later. I'm glad you thought my post was useful - and it sounds like you're doing just fine on your own. Continued luck, as always.
A pound a week... that's 50 pounds in a year... and 500 pounds in 10 years! You go Cavanaugh.
A pound a week is ideal and I only hope for the same myself now spring is around the corner.

They say eating early in the evening is best for weight loss, but as you say that leaves more time for snacking.

There's no set way and we each do things differently. I can do the food part, but tend to overdo the vino. Keep up the good work.
You won't know if you snack unless you try it. Congrats on stepping off that plateau.
Jeff, I'm counting on this taking a year. I wonder how long it will be until no one reads my weight loss posts.
Linda, I'm also hoping that spring will make things easier. I'm anxious to get back on my bike. I drink wine only with my evening meal. I consider it healthy and refuse to givce it up.
phyllis, That's one plateau down. How many more to go, I wonder.
