Weight Loss Journal - Week 13 - Any Little Excuse

Rate: 8 Flag

I was doing so well, but there are many pitfalls on the weight loss journey. This week it was a simple head cold. I think it's called post nasal drip, that feeling that there is mucus stuck in the back of your throat. You keep trying to swallow it, but it simply won't budge.

To help it along, I tried eating pretzels, which did work to a certain degree. But who, I ask you in all seriousness, can eat pretzels without a few slabs of cheese to go with them. And this is Wisconsin, after all, "The Dairy State." So I ate Wisconsin cheddar with the pretzels. They're just too bland on their own.

So, once again, I can report no weight loss for this week, alas. But at least the cold is gone, so now I can get back on track. If only it weren't for Shrove Tuesday, which is today.

In Lancaster County, PA, where I hail from, everyone eats fasnachts on Fat Tuesday. I guess it's an Amish thing. Here in Cedar Grove everyone eats Paczkis. I think they're Polish. I had a raspberry filled one for breakfast.

But please don't give up on me yet. I'm tougher than I may seem, and I shall prevail. No stupid excuse for a doughnut is going to get the best of me or wallowing in self-pity over a head cold.

There is hope on the horizon. I've been noticing that the sun is finally setting to the north of my deck post when for so long it had been sinking below the horizon to the south of the post. This means that the sun is higher in the sky, not to mention that I think we are only about three weeks out from Daylight Savings. With light comes renewed strength and energy and positive vibes.

Thanks for stopping by and for all the encouragement.

Pretzels without cheese--- unthinkable!

I'm nursing the flu on the dorito, chocolate muffin, I'm so sick I really need/deserve another glass of wine diet.
Okay I have celiac disease and ate a piece of apple cake last night. I am paying for it now.
If we walked a straight road we would be boring.

You need a puppy that keeps running away; then you can spend lots of time chasing him!

I too have a cold and remember my mother's words 'Starve a fever, feed a cold,' which seems the correct advice. Well, that's my excuse anyway.

Shrove Tuesday here means pancakes and maple syrup, so I shall avoid the scales this week.

Come the spring I'm determined to make more effort and hopefully get out walking more. We'll be slimmer by summer I'm sure.
V, Sounds like my kind of diet.
Linda, Did you have to mention apple cake?
zach, What a lovely comment and great idea.
Linda C, I'm really quite determined. l love anything with maple syrup.
Here they're sold as paczki. And they are definitely worth sacrificing your diet for. I hope you feel better soon.
It's all attitude, and you have plenty of that. Try pretzels and a dip of vinegar and olive oil. Mmmmm. Perfect combination.
"With light comes renewed strength and energy and positive vibes."

Exactly! That's the right attitude. I've noticed the days' lenghtening too which makes such a difference in one's outlook. But I never had pretzels with cheese - aren't they already salty? :o) Standing by you.

I love the positivity - I feel like this new sun is in your heart!

As for the pretzels, I think you already did really well by not eating a higher calorie snackfood. I mean, you could have said Ruffles chips were a good way to try to catch phlegm and make it go down. So, good choice on that.

Continued luck and a belated happy Shrove Tuesday!
