Sarah Palin Resigns. Maybe She Knows Her Limits? Naaa

Rate: 34 Flag

Palin Family Values

This is a joke, people. But it hits awfully close to the mark.

"If she's leaving now, it could mean an intense period of study and work and campaigning for folks in 2010 in preperation for a run for the presidency. If she's gonna run for the presidency in 2012 it makes all the sense in the world." Pat Buchanan

We all better hope Pat's wrong. I explained why during the campaign in a post called The Pandering, Pathological, Piss-Poor Pick of Palin (reproduced below).

I weighed in on Sarah Palin with deadly seriousness back then because she was in a position of potential power. And because she's a really dangerous person.

I've made fun of her because, well, it's almost too easy. Palin is so meatless she's Political Vegan. I showed you a similar opinion in a lighter vein: Hockey Mom Makes Moose Meat of Sarah Palin.

When she went postal last month over a comedy routine, I called her out, along with everybody elseBitch, Bitch, Bitch! Time to Shut Up About Palin & Letterman.

My opinion of Sarah Palin hasn't changed. Especially after watching her bizarre resignation speech.

Everybody seems so surprised. Has no one been paying attention?

She and her administration are under multiple investigations for corruption and ethics violations. Her family is providing more embarrassments than the Beverly Hillbillies.

The woman is a loose cannon. She's shrill, mean-spirited, high school pep rally predictable, empty, vague. Ignorant.

Really, Sarah Palin is ignorant. She may seem 'dumb like a fox'  but deep down she's an ignorant, sexist, racist, homophobic, hypocritical idiot.

Top Ten

So, without further ado, here are my Top Ten Reasons Sarah Palin Resigned:

10. Somebody paid her to scuttle Tina Fey's career.

  9. She's pregnant with Michael Jackson's love child.

  8. She signed on as a point guard for the LA Lakers.

  7. She and Todd want to spend more time together ... hunting.

  6. She's waiting for President Obama to appoint her Secretary of Health.

  5. The Today Show offered her Willard Scott's job.

  4. The Today Show offered her Al Roker's job.

  3. CBS offered her Katie Couric's job.

  2. She's been having an affair with Governor Mark Sanford.

  1. Are you kidding??? She's NUTS!

The Pandering, Pathological, Piss-Poor Pick of Palin
originally posted 9.3.2008

"Because of Hillary Clinton's historic run for the presidency and the treatment she received, American women are more highly tuned than ever to recognize and decry sexism in all its forms. They will not tolerate sexist treatment of Governor Palin." Carly Fiorina

Not. So. Fast. The GOP does not get to use Hillary Clinton as an excuse to defend Sarah Palin.

The McCain camp picked Palin for sexist reasons and now they're using claims of sexism to defend her. Beyond chutzpah. Perfectly on point for the GOP. They wanted a Right Wingnut Conservative woman and, whoops, she turned out to be more nut than they expected, so they holler sexism.

That, and hearing Sarah Palin co-opt Hillary's "18 million cracks in the glass ceiling" hard-earned slogan, added to the McCain team's indefensible excuses and explanations made me realize how deeply offended I am by the whole idea of Sarah Palin The Candidate.

I tried to keep quiet but now I have to speak up.

Sarah Palin is a bad choice. Not because she's outrageously inexperienced -- though she is, and it matters. But because she's bad news for all of us.

Palin's an NRA gun-toting, creationist, anti-environmentalist, big oil and Bridge-to-Nowhere supporting, pro-war, Pro-Life, anti-gay, fundamentalist, Secessionist, book banning, lying hypocrite.

She preaches family values and abstinence but apparently can't get her own family to listen ... so how effective could she possibly be as our country's Vice President?

Inexperience is the least of some very good reasons I don't want her a heartbeat away from the presidency. Or too close to the Supreme Court. Or hanging around with legislators.

If we are to have a real race for President of the United States we are at least entitled to real candidates. Though not my first choice, Barack Obama has depth and power, not just of personality, but also of work ethic, integrity and commitment.

He doesn't have the longest political resume but neither did Bill Clinton or even JFK. Like both of them, he's got enormous intelligence, highly developed on-the-job learning skills, a voracious appetite for knowledge, the courage to make hard decisions and the best campaign staff in the business.

Obama, like Kennedy has a not-so-secret weapon as his VP. Joe Biden, like LBJ, is a savvy career politician who knows how to get the job done, and done right. Both added wisdom and gravitas to their tickets. Lyndon Johnson was arguably our most effective vice president to date. Joe Biden has the ability to meet and potentially outstrip him.

On the Republican side, we have the mighty John McCain, a seasoned senator who, it must always be mentioned, deserves our thanks and honor for his service and sacrifice to our country. Well, yes he does.

But so do thousands of other men and women who also have survived prison camps, lost limbs, taken years to recover from horrendous life-threatening and life-altering injuries. True, John McCain's story is horrific, but it is, tragically, hardly unique.

And here he is now with his great wealth and his many homes and his trophy wife, seemingly none the worse for wear. Which I've always believed is impossible. The man has been badly damaged, body and soul.

No human being emerges from that kind of experience without a lifetime dose of PTSD. McCain has a nasty, hair-trigger temper. He looks and acts older than his years. He seems, at times, not to know what the hell is going on or what he's talking about.

Plus, McCain is pro-war, pro-gun, Pro-Life, pro-oil, pro-big business, pro-tax cuts for the rich and the $5-Million-a-year earning Middle Class. Class my ass. And if you want to talk "executive experience," he hasn't got any either. Now he's got a dubious at best, disaster at worst Running Mate. Whom he knows nothing about and didn't want in the first place.

If McCain can't control his own choice of VP candidate, what else will he allow others to do for him? Cue the Twilight Zone music, see shades of Dick Cheney and Karl Rove.

Palin's family should be her own business ... except she made it ours. She announced her unmarried 17-year-old daughter is pregnant. We're allowed to respond.

I only care because as it makes Palin's strong public stand on the value of abstinence look, well, stupid. Palin's religous views are her busines  ... except she seems to lean toward anti-Semitism, at least by way of silence. That'll play well in Florida and New York, don't you think?

Another family matter, of potentially much greater importance: Palin's sister was involved in a nasty divorce with an Alaska state trooper and now the state legislature is investigating allegations that Governor Palin fired Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan when he refused to fire that state trooper.

And then there's that WTF??? firing of a librarian who opposed Palin's ideas on book banning.

Wow. Corrupt Government Service and Twisted Family Values! Pro-Life and Pro-War. All right! At least we know she's a real Republican.

Gov. Palin has been tapped to run for a deadly serious job. It's not about gender or pregnancies or beauty contests. IT'S ABOUT ISSUES. Ability to lead. Integrity. Honesty. Decency. Tolerance. Yes, experience too. Political acuity. Contacts and leverage. The safety and security of our citizens.

Sarah Palin just doesn't measure up to any of those criteria. Especially the last one. No matter how many guns she has and how well she shoots.

I don't want my future, my family's future, our country's future in John McCain's and Sarah Palin's dangerous hands.

She's not our Vice President, thank god. Soon, she won't be a governor.

I don't know how current this is, but it scares the hell out of me:  SarahPAC - Sarah Palin's Official PAC

Only Sarah Palin could (briefly) stop all Michael Jackson news all the time.
Re your comment - I hope she's dead too (politically).
Palin's statement was about as bizzare as it gets, even for her. I love your top10 list, especially #1. (Rated)
Myriad, couldn't agree more. But without the endless loops of her resignation speech and beauty contestant photos.

Roger, thanks, feel free to add your own.

LuluandPhoebe, seems only fitting that an odd one dies and an odd one resigns.
I think the video is an accurate depiction of Sarah's brain. There is more to this story. New qualification for President: Quitter.
Anyone who stands behind her now has really shown their true colors -- desperation!
Watch out, Sally. Someone's on the rag today about Palin posts!

" 8. She signed on as a point guard for the LA Lakers."

Great post! Rated. And READ.
She is nuts. The parents of a friend of mine are NUTS for her, yet they could have answered those Katie Couric questions much better than she did. I, too, noticed the ethics violations cases and the fact that a Senate race opens up next year and the fact that Alaska is in the red (maybe more than we know), and maybe she wants all this to shift to someone else while she readies for a Senate run.
I have mixed feelings about how much and when people should be held responsible for someone who speaks at their church or sometimes even for a few comments that their minister makes. It is too long to go into, because I haven't even sorted it out for myself.

Palin does scare me.
Sanford, Palin ... Jindal better hire a food/beverage taster. Someone's spiking the drinks of Republican governors with Prez ambitions with loony juice.
I'm wondering if she knows there's a hellatious scandal involving a family member or herself on the horizon and she's doing some advance damage control, because when it hits, it'll be like the wooden stake in the heart of Dracula as far as her political career, goes. (Maybe the Wasilla Assembly of God and Pastor Murthee burned a witch?)

As for the nature of this scandal? Other than MJ's love child (Honest, she was no where NEAR Argentina...) she, Todd, MJ and Mark Sanford all got together for a group grope. With a moose involved. Or maybe she had a jailhouse romance with Bernie Madoff.

Maybe she and Todd are planning to seccede from the Union with the AIP for good. (Don't let the screen door hit you in the fanny on the way out..)

Maybe she's arranging for North Korean citizenship so she can breed REALLY messed up kids. Sorry Todd, you're just too....normal
"Bizarre" is the perfect word to describe her 18-minute speech. What a show! Although I usually disagree with Pat Buchanan, he's a smart guy, and I can't imagine what he's thinking vis-a-vis Palin. Thanks for keeping your eye on the ball. I infer from your many posts that you will not be contributing to her presidential campaign.
From Iran Twitters to Mark Sanford to Michael Jackson to Sarah Palin. Stop the world, I definitely want to get off.
Palin is the female Ross Perot. He quit the 1992 campaign for a month for mysterious reasons then came back a month later. Personally I disagree with Buchanan. I can't imagine Americans voting for and corporations and PACs funding a quitter in 2012.
"Only Sarah Palin could (briefly) stop all Michael Jackson news all the time.". Suddenly, I'm torn by the choices. Great list! Happy 4th. And when did you change that avatar?
Another thing--They do have legal bills from all the scandal, and they set up a fund for contributions, but now some say the fund isn't legal, so I wonder---considering everything else and the 2012 run--if she also flat-out needs the money from many back-to-back paid appearances?
She is the Alex Forrest of the GOP.
Of course the reasons she gives for quitting make no sense. She wouldn't want to tell the real reason. I have a lot of apprehension for what she plans to do. The source of my fear is well summed up by Cindy Ross:

"Palin may be scary, but the reason she's scary is that she's got the support of people so dumb it takes my breath away."
Embezzlement, federal charges, this is going to be good.
As I posted this morning, Palin is a one-woman source of inspiration for me. I could write and write and write about her. In fact, I'm compiling a list of opening sentences for future Palin essays as we speak:

"Sarah, don't make me repost my "Rabble Rousing" essay yet again."

And...

"I hate to count my turkeys before they are beheaded, but..."

are two of my favorites thus far.
What breaks my heart is that many are considering her the standard of what a female candidate is - and the media will for the forseeable future use her to measure any other potential female politician.

Considering on Wednesday she was pushing to get a conservative anti-abortion bill through state senate and forced out a woman with over 20 years in the public health sector, these don't seem like the actions of someone who was planning a sudden departure. Indeed, her announcement of her resignation was so sudden that most reporters never had the chance to attend - and it was on the day before a 3-day weekend. Someone is either blackmailing her or that have such dirt on her that she felt a sudden resignation followed by media holiday would deflect it. Some pundits are already stating that this will keep our collective eyes off of Alaska. I hope they're wrong. There is a story here which needs to be investigated, lest some other person try to push Palin back as a contender on the national stage.
O'Donnell and Buchanan are fun together. Almost as good as Walsh, Buchanan, and Matthews.
Tell us how you really feel, Sally!
Great post, and thanks for the links.
Love your top-ten list.
You know what really scares me about her? More than ANYTHING? It's that there are people who LIKE her. That piece of the PAC money going up and the fact that she announced it over the holiday. That is NEVER good news.

THAT is scary! (Rated and appreciated of course!)
All of this makes her and EXCELLENT candidate for 2012. Excellent because she is seen as flawed. I have now met so many women who IDENTIFY with her and all her so called problems.
I have met so many women who tell me she is really a NICE person, and they like her.
She is very scary to me. I can see her being elected and then when she is in the White house she would make the Bushies look like good times.
I can only hope she does well on Faux News Network.
Sally!

topmost video is wicked unny. Let me suggest one more possibility:

11. She finally gets it. She resigns because she truly realizes that she is bad for Alaska, unqualified for public office, and can do great good for her children buy avoiding the spotlight and re-thinking her values.

???

Yeah. Right. And grits ain't cornmeal. I am afraid it's #1, batshit crazy.
Ah, she's definitely broke a political leg somewhere in the Alaskan tundra. Hey, they shoot horses for that, don't they?

Thumbed.
Great YT find, perfect for the point. I'll take #1 and try to rinse the foul essence of Palin,( the rightie prop that turned out so wrong). from my soul. Any suggestions on a good product for this exorcism? Thanx
Palin has something up her sleeve. I don't like her but I don't under estimate her eithier.
