Googled your name lately? Do it. Do it in several different ways. Put quotation marks around it. Use your Internet nicknames. Take a real good look at your presence on the web.
There are thousands of links for me, and I'm lucky that I turned out the work that put most of them there. One of the reasons I am posting now is because my Open Salon blogs show up pretty high on the search list, so I will tell you this:
There are sites where people using the names Said Erol, Beatrice Marot, Tommy Moon, Savanah Barton, GegoriasGirl - and probably more to come - have threads or posts implying I abuse children - simply because I have a connection to a show, Psychic Kids.
I also made the mistake of objecting to rants being made on facebook, without realizing just far sick people can go.
So they are spreading lies on the Internet.
Those statements are now showing up in my search results.
The lesson is this: never respond to harassment. Block it. Report it. Forget it. Facebook needs to make it easier to report details of abuses. But the first line of defense is not to let them get to you in the first place.
