The Choice of Joy: Day 17, Sugar Cookies

I hope I never grow too old nor have my pallet become so snooty that I lose the delight of milk and cookies.  But not just any cookies.  There are some good store-bought ones on the market, but homemade are still best.  And the best of the best are my friend Pat’s sugar cookies.

Pat’s sugar cookies are so simple, and therein lies their elegance.  A mix of flour, sugar, vanilla and butter with a dash of salt, the cookies could compete with any nectar of the gods for the wonderful sensation they give my pallet.

Pat never over-bakes them.  I think that is part of the secret of their flavor.  Pat bakes them just long enough to give a firmness with not even a hint of browning around the edges.  Pat knows when to stop. 

There is a fullness to the taste: a rich, buttery sweetness and a certain gentle saltiness.  I alternate the wonderful morsels with an organic 2% milk.  Swigs and bites.  Yum!

Even the aftertaste is a pleasure, softly sugary. 

Today, it is Pat’s sugar cookies that bring me Joy.
