The Choice of Joy: Day 34, Fresh Cherries
There are few advantages to living alone. One of them is to sit down and eat a bowl of fresh cherries. You can gorge yourself without appearing to be impolite, and you can spit out the pits without wondering if you look like an oaf when you do. And there is a certain amount of twirling the fruit in your mouth to get that pit separated from the pulp. I looked at myself in the mirror once when I was working at pit separation, my mouth contorted in all sorts of ways. It was not an attractive site.
So being alone can be a good thing when you want to eat fresh cherries.
And it was my joy today to consume the better part of a bowlful.
