Rep. Steve King: The Star Organizer of a Druggy Frat House
I read of Representative Steve King's tirade against President Obama and ACORN today with great interest. I was, you might say, inspired. Here's what I learned:
Membership in an organization
+
Some achievement of success
=
Responsibility for anything bad that organization does
+
Some achievement of success
=
Responsibility for anything bad that organization does
Fascinating! What this means, by the way, is that Steve King is a lame, lying drug dealer.
Confused?
King was a member of the Alpha Lambda Kappa fraternity while a student at Northwest Missouri State University. (Motto: Truth And The Word). Alpha Lambda Kappa, a nationwide fraternity for Christian men. To become a member of this rich brotherhood, one must accept the Fraternity Creed, which includes the pledge, "I accept membership in Alpha Kappa Lambda as affiliation that is binding for life." (It also requires members to pledge to "respect the opinion of others," so there is some ground here to argue that King isn't exactly keeping his promises).
So, having joined this lifelong brotherhood -- and King has said some of his brothers have helped him during his recent campaigns -- and having achieved such a measure of success that he's considered one of their notable alumni, we can assume, using King Logic, that he's their defacto leader and responsible for all of their actions, good and bad.
The good news? They seem to do some philanthropic work for causes like sexual abuse prevention and Cystic Fibrosis fund-raising.
The bad news? They're a fraternity. And fraternities, no matter what their lofty goals for membership might be, are only as strong as their weakest, beer-soaked brethren. In this case, those guys probably live at Washington State University, where last year their AKL chapter lost all recognition. Why? The Conduct Board found [PDF] that AKL was selling drugs out of their house, giving beer to minors, lying to university officials, and had -- oops! -- forgotten to have an in-house resident assistant. This ruling was later appealed to, and upheld by, the Court of Appeals in Washington.
They've had other issues, too -- hazing charges in Missouri and Indiana, for instance.
Now, AKL itself has taken some steps to improve the situation. It revoked the charter of a chapter at Central Missouri State University after they threw a Martin Luther King Jr. Day party where members wore baggy pants and do-rags and ate fried chicken as a "tribute." But I assume that, still following King Logic, that's not enough. Internal efforts of a group to improve itself are not enough to wipe away the bad actions of a few of its affiliated members, right? The whole place must be painted with the same evil brush. I've been listening.
So I assume that Mr. King had full knowledge of all of AKL's bad behavior and that he not only supports it but encourages it, since he's the Head of All Things He's Ever Been Even Briefly Invovled In, just like President Obama.
I, like the rest of the country, await his response and apology.

Thanks for the rate.
This would cause the defunding of Halliburton, Blackwater (or whatever their nom de jeur is) and any insurance company that now gets reimbursed by Medicare. It would also have to apply to any church receiving "faith based initiative" money ~ every Catholic church, any protestant church affiliated with any organization Ted Haggard ever represented, etc. Oh, and who can forget his Holiness Sun Yung Moon and everything he touches?
Looks like if the bill passes the Rs will have to go to court to get their law declared unconstitutional, or nearly every major supoorting organization of theirs will be stripped of federal funding.
But, that will not stop those political opponents from taking any seed and trying to turn it into a forest of discontent. This has been the business as usual of Washington America is tired of. Both sides do it and frankly I would like to see a lot less political sniping and a lot more action.
In BOTH instances it is completely RIDICULOUS and completely WITHOUT MERIT... but hey that OBVIOUSLY doesn't STOP Democrats from making the claim about Bush/Cheney so WHY should it STOP Republicans from making the claim about Obama/Biden?
Pot... Meet Kettle.
Oh, please?
But they are light years beyond shame, or accountability, or consistency even. They seem to live somewhere in "we are SO right and they are SO wrong that ANYTHING we can say or do that will thwart "them" while we wait for another charismatic, electable leader is completely justified; nay, the only MANLY thing to do.
MrsRaptor, though I'm not sure I'd try holding Bush or Cheney responsible personally for the failings of Blackwater, there's certainly an enormous difference in the level of support that they gave that company and what Obama has given ACORN since being in office.
Because it's so easy.
But when it comes to the Battle of the Parties... it seems to me that both sides are guilty of coming up with some pretty lame comments. It's just that the Democrats are usually right and the Republicans seem to have that "Oh ya... well your mother wears Army Boots" mentality.
And besides... with the right skirt, Army Boots can be quite fetching.
We need to go into strategies for dealing with abusers and bullies, when it comes to these Republicans who will not shut up. Perhaps we need to be as aggressive with CNN, parts of NBC, and FOX as the handful of Right Wingers who e-mail, write, and call in when something upsets them.
One Southern Right Winger who contacts the news organs seems to get counted as if she or he represents one million Americans.
We need to see how we get counted.
