The Palin Show: She finally lands on Fox

Rate: 34 Flag
Holy Toledo Batman, Robin, and Poison Ivy, she's coming to TV:

Former Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska has signed on as a contributor to the Fox News Channel.

The network confirmed that Ms. Palin will appear on the network’s programming on a regular basis as part of a multi-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Ms. Palin will not have her own regular program, one person familiar with the deal said, though she will host an occasional series that will run on the network from time to time. This person would not elaborate, but the network does have a precedent for such a series. Oliver L. North is the host of an occasionally running documentary series on the military called “War Stories.” [NYT]

There's so much to love here, even beyond the comparison of Palin and Ollie North. Sarah Palin on TV! Good gravy, I hope it's live. I hope Todd is a part of it. I hope it's like Dateline only gorier.

Is there any way that this won't be a train wreck? I mean -- you could look at this as a major television network offering a woman who seems to struggle with the truth (and words and making sense) a gigantic platform from which to misinform people. That, however, would be discounting the value of the awesome entertainment I'll be getting from just the reporting about this show. Bear hunts? Helicopter liberal shooting parties? Household tips? The possibilities are endless. If it doesn't fly on Fox, maybe she could replace Jay Leno. I'd laugh.

I assume the show will be called, "If Ya Can't Beat 'Em," and I am willing to bet money -- if I had it, that'd be a more meaningful bet -- that this will be the funniest thing since Laser Cats, and just about as likely to cause national doom and terror.

Well, it was just a matter of time
Oh, man, Saturn, I think we were cross-posting. Great minds, and all that. 1:36 and 1:37. It doesn't get any closer than that. Thanks for your article, as always, well done.
This could almost get me to go out and buy a TV. Say what you will, Ailes and Murdoch are (evil) geniuses.
Does this come as a surprise, to anyone?
As George Lucas said in a recent radio interview, "Dr. Strangelove" doesn't hold up any more because the country is way too goofy now for that movie to be held up as satire.

Paddy Chayefsky just screamed in his grave....
Ah! Kathy, I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. Nice piece to you, too!

Lonnie, I thought the same thing.
Neither one of us reported it first here, either. My delay was searching for a usable pic.
"I hope it's live". No kidding, but surely... no. freaking. way!!
Now I may have to unblock Fox News from my guide. I'm so excited! Let's hope she does it "On a Boat"!
Trig, if it's filmed before a studio audience, I'm gonna find a way to get tickets.
Time to dust off the theme song to Maverick!
Oh the joy at Comedy Central. It must be like Christmas over there. Although I got to say, framed the right way she's pretty good on T.V. So it probably won't be a total trainwreck. I bet there'll a lot of guns.
I can't wait until she interviews someone like Michelle Bachman. We'll get to see two liars trying to outduel each other. I'm bringing the popcorn.
Color me astonished.

I wish I could agree I think it'll be a disaster, but the woman is capable of reading off a teleprompter. It's unfortunate, but there it is.
It should be as good as the "Half hour comedy hour". How long did that last?

Bingo!

I might have to start watching TeeVee again, or at least her clips on YouTube. ;~)
And Hannity slides down another notch.
She's a media ho! But Fox appears to be taking on all problematic and extremist right wingers who can bring an audience.

Fox still has not dumped Glenn Beck, preferring to lose money on the clown, so she will be in the best position ever...for the good of the nation.

Her habitual lying and her histrionic nature will serve to expose her for the meglomaniac and fraud that she is. The problem is that she will only be viewed by the extremist nut cases and media wonks that actually get their news (or comedy research) from Fox.

I just wonder how she and the other meglomaniacs will get along!
Roger, I hadn't even thought of that. Bonus?
What took so long?

And can Michelle Bachmann be far behind -- hopefully.
I would expect her to quit within 18 months of the end of her contract, if she follows her usual pattern.
Oh one more thing, I heard the sticking point in her contract was getting to keep her wardrobe.
In true liberal fashion, Palin is being condemned for a performance she's yet to perform.

Being a beautiful woman, Palin will surely fit in on Fox and will equally surely incur the wrath of homely women everywhere.

I assume those that raise the teleprompter issue are no longer supporting our illustrious leader, Barack Obama. And while we're on the subject, Palin is not a liar , coward, or racist.

The most reliable polls have Palin outdistancing Obama, Reid, and Pelosi. Al Gore's book sold in numbers not even the square root of Palin's. All the uber-liberal bitchiness won't alter those facts.
OE -- ha. That's priceless.
Actually Gordo, Ms. Palin is a liar. She lied about the conclusions of the ethics investigation in Alaska, she lied about her involvement in the "Bridge To Nowhere," and I believe she lied when she said that Levi was welcome for Thanksgiving dinner.
sorry to plug my own blog, but I thought this event would be perfect to kick off what I'm calling Mendacity Monday.

Palin the Ass is but a tool being used to spread mis-truths. Faux Skews also hired Karl Rove, if you remember.
Gordon, Palin's not smart enough to be scared of anything - that doesn't make her brave.

and nice of you to start off with "typical liberal response" or a "no true Scotsman" fallacy.

That you see nothing at issue with the statement that a "beautiful woman" would be "at home on Fox" (because that's the only criterion for a woman there) is just as telling of your reasoning skills as the presumption that less comely women would hate her for that - and only that. (along with the implied presumption that anyone who hates her is ugly, and the circular reasoning that they only hate her out of jealousy)

Palin the Ass is like a psychic - doesn't matter how many times what she says isn't true ("stopped clock"), people line up in droves to believe it because they_want_ to.
Oliver North, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Mike Huckabee, Greta VanSusterin, Dick Morris, Dennis Miller, Karl Rove... they used to have Alan Colmes on the left. Do they have anyone now? Juan Williams (moderate, and frequent O'Reilly apologist? Who am I missing (other than straight newsmen Smith and Cameron) that makes this a Fair and Balanced crew?
Why do people like Gordon insist on making this some kind of battle between supposedly "beautiful" women (like Sarah Palin?), and "homely" women (like liberals?).
"who seems to struggle with the truth (and words and making sense)"

... why then, she'll be just like everyone else on Pox News.
In order to have a train wreck, don't you have to have an awareness that you're on the wrong track?

Meanwhile, Fox is guaranteed an audience, made up of fans and detractors alike. Sponsors will be clamoring for space, Conan will make the leap and the "fourth" network may soon find itself at the number one position.

Hell of a train ride, I'd say.

Good heavens, if Conan defects, will anyone watch any other channel
I hope she gets to wear the same short-short skirts the other FOX 'newswomen' wear.
Nikki -- re: Conan, you've summed up my thoughts for the day perfectly!
...now I have the theme song to "Maverick" stuck in my head. Thanks J. DeMain
They scoop up the crazies and the liars fast as they can get them.
"Although I got to say, framed the right way she's pretty good on T.V. "

yeah, I actually can't say this is a certain disaster. They'll fluff her and help her in every way possible. And given how outrageously people talk over at Fox already, how different will she be?

My prediction: She'll be a huge hit with her target audience, a la Beck, even if the rest of us think she's embarrassing herself.
The saddest fact of all is that there are voters who would actually vote for this inept, unread, liar of a woman, a very, very sad commentary on this nation!
Good for her. She'll do great.
Hey, Gordon: All that hype about Palin's book being a bestseller was a lie!!! Most bookstores didn't order many copies, as in eight or so.That's easy enough to research. Call some bookstores around the country, both blue and red states.
I have sold more books than Sarah Palin.

I used to work in a book store.
I almost feel sorry for people at Fox (well, okay, no not really). You know this is going to go south in a hurry. Sarah is going to go so far beyond the bounds that even Fox is willing to accept as reality that they're going to have to pull her. Then about a year or so from now we can expect Sarah and her ghostwriter to rush a new book to the presses all about the behind the scenes dirty laundry at Fox. She's going to leave a trail of wreckage at Fox just like she has in Wasilla, Alaska, and the country as a whole. But then again, it couldn't happen to a nicer network.
Like this is a surprise. Palin will be a great talking head. All you need is some one liners and a couple of catch phrases and you are a news personality. News is not about substance anymore it is about flash.

Palin saw a void and moved in to fill it. She has a lot of street smarts. She took her moment of fame as VP canidate and grew it into something that could keep her in the spotlight for decades. It beats working for a living.
She's going to do fine and this IS a brilliant move by Fox. This will grow her popularity even more. Keep hating her though..she expects you to underestimate her.
Folks, from what I gather from this post, Palin is not getting her own show. She's only going to be a "contributor".

And why on earth would you be concerned who will do her hair and supply her clothes? I don't get it.
An easy prediction many made has come true. Another airhead for the tabloid politics channel.
An easy prediction many made has come true. Another airhead for the tabloid politics channel.
Mud wrestling? Moose shooting and gutting? Child custody fights? Who knows what awaits?
It's amazing to me how a woman with no power can make the liberals wet their pants on a daily basis.
Well we can watch those ratings go through the roof ...
Ah, THIS is God's plan for Palin, not the presidency.

Or maybe he presidency also.

Two horses of the apocalypse all by herself!
They'll probably heavily script it, minimizing live encounters until she's practiced, and make sure she never sees anyone hostile. What could go wrong? I don't mean that sarcastically but rather to say that there is no challenge in her success here. Of course she'll succeed. I just don't know why it took 'em so long.
Gordon said: "Being a beautiful woman, Palin will surely fit in on Fox and will equally surely incur the wrath of homely women everywhere."

And so it begins.
Maybe they're trying for the people who think it's Michael Palin, although Sarah just might be (unintentionally) funnier.
As for God's Plan, judging by the results His Plan must have been to preserve us from another elderly bad-tempered white man, and give a career boost to Tina Fey.
To steal a line from Elvis Costello, "I used to be disgusted, And now I try to be amused ."
At least she's not ugly like Cheney.
I'm finding it difficult to summon up a chuckle here. Of course it's good to see her out of the political arena, but I see it as a lateral career move on her part. She sees the media as a source of power equal to that of politics, so this more than satisfies her lust for power and fame.

At least for the time being.
Is there a clause in her contract that prevents her from quitting in mid-term ... err ... -show?
It's a perfect match.
Holy Sister Mary Batman - what the heck is Fox thinking? Nevermind. Answered my own question. And to think just today I was half considering paying for cable once again.

Thx for saving me $30 a month. I ain't touchin' that with a ten foot pole!
You know, friends, I am not sanguine about this, not at all.

I will never watch Sarah Palin because I have a weak stomach, but that's also why I don't watch anyone else on Fox; they all turn my stomach.

I have a moderately strong regard for the truth, and an increasing fear that we are losing our capacity to recognize truth when we see it.

Far from this being a train wreck for Fox, which doesn't care about anything other than it's owner's political views, this is a brilliant strategy for rehabilitating a laughably ignorant (notice I said ignorant, not stupid) politician so that when her time comes around - and that will be 2016, not 2012 - she will become the unstoppable Republican frontrunner on her way to the nomination and the presidency.

By then, we will have forgotten her faux pas and her missteps in the 2008 campaign, and her delivery will be so polished that we will elect a blatantly manufactured candidate without ever knowing who has his hand stuck up her ass, pulling her strings from the inside out.

The misinformation and disinformation spouting through the Fox channel is already seriously distorting our perceptions of reality, with O'Reilly and Beck being the most heinous offenders, riling up their viewers, taking Obama to task for things over which the man has no control, fanning the fires around Harry Reid's innocent comments, giving Britt Hume further opportunities to insult the entire Buddhist community in the name of their sickening, pathetic, bogus Christianity.

There's nothing funny about Palin's admission to this particular Boy's Club. It portends further twists of truth into unrecognizable pretzels.
I'm glad to see Fox is continuing its tradition of yellow journalism. I won't be watching. It will be too painful.
Wow. This will really add some fairness and balance. This is kismet; like Arod signing with the Yanks or the Stones finally doing Like A Rolling Stone. What took them so long?
Well I guess barf finds her bag
@ Gordon, not the buyers 0n the book. Companies, not people, that's why her "going rogue" is offered for 4.95 on television with a free magazine subscription. "Run away best seller" bought by big companies in bulk now turn to give aways to see it. Radical no education nut job strikes again.
What if it is like Crossfire with Laser Cats?
Gordon,

Don't you like the way that the mention of Gov. Palin makes the people here foam at the mouth like a rabid FOX?
Let the games begin! I hope they give her plenty of rope, I mean live air time.
Indeed, Catnlion.

"And why on earth would you be concerned who will do her hair and supply her clothes? I don't get it."

It's called the green-eyed monster, JK.

The notion that her book is not selling well is the ultimate exercise in reality denial. When a book price comes down, it's a clear indication that the publisher can make its profit from volume, which is clearly the case with "Rogue."
"They'll probably heavily script it, minimizing live encounters until she's practiced, and make sure she never sees anyone hostile."

That's what I like about Obama. He never uses a teleprompter and gives regular press conferences--like last July!

Oh I am thrilled. Yet another reason Fox kicks ass! Liberals come on what the hell are you so afraid of? You say she is a liar, a whimp, a dunce , had her daughters baby, made fun of her disabled child, and the list goes on. So I am so curious. In your eyes Palin is a moron so why do you put so much of your useless energy into following her every move? Why? Why?
"In your eyes Palin is a moron so why do you put so much of your useless energy into following her every move? Why? Why?"

Thanks, Nancy. This is, of course, the question that dares not speak its answer.
Gag, Sarah Palin and Fox! It's almost too much to imagine. I can only say that they deserve each other. Now misinformation on t.v. and an completely inappropriate person to be elected to national office have merged.
There is so much wrong with SP that it would take reams of paper just to list...thanks for writing this.
At least fox news is not part of Obamas economic team. Msnbc is owned by Immelt. Also NBC. Having the owner of a news channel in the white house is scary. Palin will do fine. Palin could cure cancer, and progressives would hate her. She will talk small govt. and it will resonate. She should expose Obamas lies.
Kathryn, you just described your illustrious rock star and chief. Let's see you said misinformation on tv, yep the media and its love affair with Obama, and you said a completely inappropriate person to be elected to public office. Bingo Obama again. Gosh you are good. Come on you can do better then that. The empty suit sitting in the Oval office is who you were talking about right?
I'm not surprised and think in fact this is where she ultimately wants to be. Her weird moves so far do not indicate a desire for the presidency. Although I enjoyed your post, I'm not as certain as you are that a ubiquitous television presence will "out" her anti-intellectualism. Any more than other Fox personalities have been outed that is. I think the people who love her will just continue to love her and she will actually start to influence daily conversation ala Bill O'Reilly, etc. (Daily conversation for me, that is, because I live among conservatives).
I think Daily Show and Stephen Colbert should start sending her flowers. I mean their business is booming as it is, but this would give them a huge boost. I am sure there will be a segment on that. Can't wait.
And all this time I've been asking when she would just go away. OK, now when?
snowball, this is the lifetime annuity Jon Stewart has been looking for. He couldn't have been given a bigger gift. This make Cheney's face-shooting look like small potatoes. Palin's going to give him so much to work with that his biggest problem will be knowing when to quit pounding on her. Colbert, however, is in the unenviable position of having to defend her, as he is the "right-winger" of the two. I just can't wait for this to start.
Trunky, you are right on the money. So where are the examples come on give some examples sagemerlin, please I wait with bated breath. Victim mentality of the left is really pathetic. Whine, lament, scold others, take the moral high ground, yet you never, ever, have any answers. Just like President Obama the liberal left is all smoke and mirrors.......be careful don't look behind the curtain for you will see the great wizard of oz is a fake!
Tina Fey is sooooooooo happy right now!!!
i'm looking forward to when harry reid is the guest and he says, " put your hands together for the president, michelle and the kids while they do a little soft shoe."
"She should expose Obamas lies."

We don't want to overwork her.

Has anyone looked at Stewart's and Colbert's ratings? Members of their immediate families are starting to click off.
Better on TV than in the White House. Hopefully this spells the end of any office seeking...
At least she'll speak to some of the small-minded, "small government" (e.g. Reagan & Bush versions?) types here.
Palin on Fox. It must be God's plan.

See:

Somebody wanted to see the lies of Sarah Palin. For a start, I would refer you to her ghost-written op-ed piece on global warming denial.

And for the Troll, I write about his presumed financial structures in my latest posting.

What is she going to discuss-wearing leather to conservative meetings, winking 101, sell your soul to the devil? She is scary and crazy in that she actually thinks she is right! R
