Crude oil spilled to date, in crudely drawn pictures

Rate: 11 Flag

So suddenly, I like to draw. I also think it’s important that we return to the different meanings of the measurements being used in the Gulf, so as to help us all understand the magnitude of what’s happening. Here are the basic units:

The newest government estimate is that 60,000 barrels of oil/2.52 million gallons of oil are leaking into the Gulf every day. Here’s the spill per minute:

And here’s the spill per hour:

THAT is really scary. Way to put some perspective on this nightmare.

Good illustration of the mess
I only wish the barrels were really that tiny.

This is a good way to show the reality of it. The more I had to scroll, the sicker I got.
And just when I thought I couldn't get more pissed off! EXCELLENT visual. Thanks.
Excellent illustration! Enthusiastically rated.
Really good. Thank you.
Thanks, folks. Scary, isn't it?
I hope the government or us can at least help in cleaning this spilled crude oil. It can be a threat to the creature underneath and in the nearby places. That's pretty scary!Sam Reiki
Imagine the effect of these barrels? Crude oil will automatically destroy the body of water and eventually affect the livelihood of people living in that particular place. We need to do something in order to solve the damage.Josh Stu
