If Bubba Was Still in the White House!

Big Bill Clinton said yesterday that if wasn't for term limits, he would have liked to be had been president forever. I'm a bit biased, but I wouldn't have minded it either. It's not that the economy would have been any better. It would probably have tanked on his watch too. Not as bad, because he wouldn't have spent close to a trillion dollars on these stupid wars. The way he went about settling settled the Serbian-Kosovo incident tells me a lot of what he would have done about Afghanistan. And I guaranteed you, Iraq would never had happened.

But it was the way he governed that I liked. He was just meant to be president, thats all there is to it. He carried himself in a way that made us look good all over the world. This Monica Lewinsky business. No others countries in the world could even believe we made such a big deal of it. The way I, and most people in the world thought about this "sex" scandal was, if Hillary could forgive him, who the hell were we to give a damn. It had no effect on our foreign policy and the only ones effected in America were the Clinton haters and the comedians. Man, they sure hated to see Clinton go.

Maybe it's just my imagination, but I seem to remember everyone working when he was in office. There wasn't any mass exodus of people losing their homes. I know that I lived a pretty good life. My business stayed busy, and the men I hired never missed a paycheck. It was during his presidency that I started losing my body. All the years of working hard and drinking harder finally caught up with me. The first time, I had no insurance and went to Vocational Rehabilitation. It is a system put in place for people with no insurance who can go back to work, they just need a little help. I had my ankle operated on, my rehabilitation paid for, and they even gave me a small amount to get my business back up. That really meant a lot to me, still does.

I'm trying not to look back on his presidency like these conservatives look back on Reagan. They think he was a King, made no mistakes, and the trickle down economy worked. It didn't. Clinton had his problems. He had a bad temper that was written about, and of course, he had an eye for the ladies. I'm sure he made plenty of mistakes while in office, no one is perfect. But I do look back on this period with good memories. Maybe it's just an old mans selective memory. But, I would damn sure vote for him again. Damn that Constitution!!

Can't leave without mentioning Obama. When he was sworn in as president, I thought it was one of the greatest things this country had ever done. Still do. With all the diversity in this country, to put it aside for a time, and vote for an African-American president was something special. I'm not going to mention his failures and achievements because honestly, he hasn't had time to make big achievements or big blunders. His time will come and then we can all praise him or rip him apart, but I had this same feeling with Clinton, he's going to be a good one!

Bill Clinton: I would've stayed in White House 'until I was carried away in coffin'

Reuters
Former president Bill Clinton said Monday that, without term limits, he would have stayed in the job "until I was carried away in a coffin, or defeated in an election."

wow, scanman, i'm right there with you. i like obama but i don't feel taht people are being protected and it scares and angers me. but i have always loved bill. i've had thoughts over the months that i wished that i had support Hillary and then we would have had Bill there too. but nothing last forever. to not have had those wars???? shit, man. maybe that memo would have been read, the one warning us about a 9/11 type thing. but maybe not. all that money that is being spent on those wars? here, with us. stop making me think and be nostalgic and sad, dude. :) love love love and gratitude and now bring me some members of my tribe.
I'm with you Scanner.

Not sure I completely agree, but I do like how well you expressed your opinion.
Bill Clinton was the closest thing to FDR that rose from the democratic party in fifty years. I believe that some polls showed him as the preferred winner in both 2000 and 2004. Too bad the republicans ramrodded that little amendment to alter the way we select and keep a president. Like most special interest groups they were concerned that a popular president from another party would keep them, their hands and their cronies from getting a chance to rape the treasury for much too long. That and they hated Roosevelt so much that the senior members of the GOP still are desperately trying to destroy all the remains of the New Deal. Why people swallow the bullshit is beyond my comprehension. They are anti-gay yet keep losing seats to gay scandals, they claim to be pro-life yet are the first to ask others to die, they are pro-war and yet few of them actually serve in harms way, they claim to be the party of smaller government yet preside over the most massive increases in spending and bureaucracy in history, they cry out about how they are the party that wants to keep government out of business and then give mass handouts to poorly managed businesses, they are known to talk of patriotism and love of country and constitution while attempting to dilute every article and reduce us to a police state. I suppose I could go on, but I think my point is made.
Nothing makes any sense anymore but then it did. I am worried , really worried about the future of the people of these United States.
Bill served us well as president. Seems unlikely that he would have gotten us into the Iraq mess. I think the economy would be better today, and we'd be better off overall. As bad as it's gotten, it seems like a miracle that we even survived 8 years of Shrub.
Thank Theo~~
Patie, thank you for coming by!
Skel, I'll take that, Thanks!
Bob, By your writing I would swear you hated republicans!
LL2, me too~
bike, I agree. The rich got richer...,
I loved Slick Willie. Sure he made some mistakes and except for the Lewinski thing he always owned up to them then changed gears to adjust. I wonder how much more he could have accomplished if not for the non stop witch hunt perpetuated by the right. Expect more of that if Obama ever shows a crack in his armor.
On the upside he could have a whole new affair, this time with Carrie Prejean! And no stupid Berets this time.
I loved Bill Clinton for one reason and one reason only. He balanced the budget. If we bring him back and he does that, I'd crown him Emperor!

Rated!
Yeah, I don't get the sex scandals thing either. We elected a notorious swinging bachelor (Pierre Elliott Trudeau) as prime minister back in the late Sixties.

When a reporter asked him if he was going to give up the Mercedes once he was in office, he replied "Which? The car or the woman?"

We all thought that was hysterical (except for the dour grey suit brigade, who didn't matter). And kept electing him.
Although I liked Bill as a leader, I’ve never quite forgiven him for disrespecting Hillary the way he did.
I liked Bill as a President, maybe not as a person but as a President he did a good job. And there is no way he would have ignored the terrorist warnings in 2001.
Oh, I'm so glad I came back to read this. It is so nice and comforting to read like minds here. This is so right on for me, you hit the nail on the head. Excellent post. Clinton was the best. Okay, now I can leave again. :)
Mike, This was when the right rally got their shit together and went after Clinton with lies, that scumbag Starr, and all the rest!
Andy, They can't take that away from him. (sounds like a song)
Boaner, private lives are none of our business!
Spin, I hated that too. I remember that walk to the helicopter, and you could tell Hillary had his balls in her purse!
ocular, I agree!
mama, please don't go. If you leave I lose 50% of the people that read me!!
Scanner, I don't "hate" republicans. I just can't stand self righteous, lying, manipulating, assholes.
I like the man, and I would rather have a president who's openly flawed than a self-righteous prig with a full closet. But, I also worry that he was as laissez faire about the markets as his GOP successor. Perhaps we can bring Teddy Roosevelt out of suspended animation.
If Clinton were still in the White House--
Hillary would have castrated him.
Carrie Prejean would have a job.
The budget wouldn't be so out of whack.
We'd all have mild Southern accents.
And we might all be better off than we are now because we wouldn't be paying for the last 8 years worth of war and excess.
Yeah, I would've been cool with Clinton staying (although, as you say, the election of Obama was remarkable.)

I saw Clinton at a ball during Obama's inauguration. He was the last to leave the party. Kinda says something about him doesn't it?
R
Gottta love Bubba, whats left of my 401k loved him too. R
Yeah, Clinton screwed around behind Hilary’s back, but he didn’t screw ME over like Bush did.

Scanner you are right, the country would be very different right now, and probably in a lot better shape. During Hilary’s campaign run, when everyone was saying, “It will just be Clinton II”, I was thinking, “I’m good with that….”
Bob, I take it you're not a conservative!
Jeff, I agree. The economy always goes up and down, and his would have been no different.
Walter, I do know one thing. We would not be fighting two friggin' wars! Thanks~
John, the man had it, whatever It is!
rita, a lot of peoples 401's looked great then. People were actually talking about retiring early. Now, not so much!!
Folks, Hillary seems to be over it, you all need to let go. There was a right wing conspiracy. If only he did not fall victim to Wall Street and kept that snake Greenspan.
I'm right there with ya, scanner. No, it wasn't your imagination: Eight years of peace, the greatest economic expansion in history, and the only balanced budget since before WWII. No wonder they tried to impeach him.

Still, they paint Dems as tax and spend. History doesn't support that fallacy.
Stella, I let it go when Clinton left office. This was about a comment Clinton made about wanting to be president forever. A what if?
Cap'n, I was hoping I wasn't by myself, Thanks!!
Now that would have... could have been something. Bubba was one of the best of the Oval Office Gurus. ~R~
Chuck, I believe some people, like FDR for instance, destiny just sweeps them to do great things. Thanks!
Wonderful post. I agree completely. I was on my, literal, honeymoon in liberal Vermont when the pre-election excitement was building for Clinton. Those were amazing days followed by peace and prosperity. I imagine that a Clinton administration today would tap Robert Reich on how to reduce the unemployment number this year before the Republicans grab any more seats.
I think history will be kind to Clinton. Peace, prosperity, and surplus are a pretty impressive trifecta. I didn't care for his behavior during the 2008 primaries but I'm over that now.
