This is my problem with the protests - is it just something to do to pass the time?

Is it me, or did the media focus more on protests abroad during the Arab Spring, than they are on the current protests?

OWS is showing us what a REAL grass roots, mass movement is all about. The Tea Party can go to hell.

In the meantime, read "The True Believer" by Eric Hoffer. All mass movements start out this way. This is just the beginning.

Just got back home from the local gun store where I'm trying to set up a booksigning for If the Woodsman is Late. The owner said he'd hafta interrupt reading his Ron Paul book to check mine out. But what was really surprising is how he and the other guys in the store support the 99 Movement. They might be Tea-Partiers and stupid in that regard, but they also get what Wall Street is doing. This speaks - this SHOUTS - volumes about the reach of our Movement.

Matt, I want to shop in your gun store. I love this. That guys with guns and peacenicks that hate guns can come together over one thing that they all have in common is so great. One thing about this movement, the only color is GREEN and that is the problem and the solution to everything. Who got it, how they got it, who ain't got it and how are they going to get it. Simple when you break it down, but trying to fix this is like Rubic's Cube, I don't see a solution, but I love to sit back and watch this country get involved with issues again, and not watching American Idol with their thumbs up their buns~~Thanks for the great comments~~~

Matt Paust: I've noticed the same thing among conservative relatives in rural PA. The movement is bringing the populist right and populist left together against the common enemy: ARISTOCRACY

Keep hearing people complain that the message is not clear enough, that too many are out there with no real expressed goal. I will refer them to your excellent post. As for me:

Our denial is ferocious as we project our identities onto the people who are oppressing us. I watch the television commentators and we are being trained to take the rich and famous and their needs, their behaviors, their comfort so very seriously and the rest of us poor schlubs are totally irrelevant, if not a nuisance. And too many aspire to be in those rich and famous status positions and live their lives the same "exalted" way. We are a nation in desperate need of values clarification to re-claim our own sense of self respect, to exercise some courage to reattain a sense of dignity and to awaken or reawaken our spiritual selves. We are in a harsher and more merciless rat race with every passing day with the Super Rats accelerating their monstrousness, often mindlessly, because their hit people are our oath-taking political representatives who long ago exploited their power to get over on a non-watching citizenry and chuck human values for the accoutrements and self-security needs of success and ego and/or got sucked into the group-think "getting over" cronyism gamesmanship of their more psychopathic, self-interested colleagues. The Wall Street protests -- are they short-term titillating for the ADD media, finally, and for the US majority, the vast majority, for a short time of lazy catharsis without joining in ... letting the kids take the hits and then shaking their heads and then saying, "There you see. Nothing works, better to tuck and roll and try to survive and not seriously unite. Let others fight the battles and get beaten up." Many doing arm-chair commentary on how the actual stand up people are just not doing it exactly right. A nation of "footmen" and watchers. Democracy is not a spectator sport as they say, or should not be, but in America it is, and the media perverts the commentary to help the rat bastards continue to get over and promote learned helplessness among the citizenry. I read the other day, "heads they win, tails we lose." The police intimidation is profound and will be used effectively especially without more people NOT actually hitting the streets and the cost will not be small and how many will be willing to pay it. For months, years even, people have blogged about a need for change. This could be the first step in that direction. If the protests are peaceful, I say go for it.

I realize that the protester have no control over the police and when I say peaceful, I mean the protesters start out and intend to be peaceful. May the police stay in line too.
