This video is over 20 minutes long. I know in our ever faster is better world, no one will listen to this, but, it doesn't stop me from putting it up. Listen, don't listen, it's up to you. It's only about our Rights, which are eroding faster than the Unicorn population~

The U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee met on Thursday to discuss thecontroversial Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), which is a copyright bill that many believe to be extremely dangerous for the future of the Internet as we know it.

What's more, they appear to be moving toward approving the bill, as the committee rejected six amendments that were supposed to address the concerns of those who believe the bill to be suspect. These rejected amendments included an amendment proposed by Rep. Darrel Issa (R - California) that would have gotten rid of the most controversial parts of the bill, namely the provisions that target search engines and ISPs.

The committee is led by the introducer of the bill, Rep. Lamar Smith (R - Texas). Smith Monday offered a 71-page amendment to the bill, which attempted to address some (but not most) of the criticisms of the bill. However, even after this amendment (read it here: PDF), Consumer Electronics Association CEO Gary Shapiro said the bill remained "unbalanced."

Thanks for the heads up Scanner. I haven't been following this particular bill but I have taken notice of the draconian copyright laws they've passed previously. they're clearly designed to control educational material and enable the owners of information to charge people for it and decide who can have what information. this should be unacceptable in any sincere democracy.

I have also noticed the absurd commercials by Creative America.org. They have attempted to imply that this is about protecting jobs which is an obvious lie. I might believe it if I wasn't more familiar with the subject but the only jobs they're protecting are those of the bureaucrats that restrict access to unauthorized information, not the people that do worthwhile research or other creative work. In fact if these workers don't adopt the appropriate ideology they risk being blackballed by the promotion and publishing industry so they're doing the opposite.
Thank you, Scanner. I will listen later and keep checking the other comments made here.

What's with the new avatar?

I'm feeling a bit "chalkest" today Fusun, thank you for asking.
Thank you so much for keeping us informed. This is a scary bill and i have trouble knowing it is in Mr. Smith's hands. I love these nutshell posts, much kinder than the "XYZ for Dummies."

So ........!

Do you expect that the same population that continued placidly munching grass while the government took away all their rights to speedy trial, to habeus corpus , to even be formally charged with an offence, to actually stand up and DO anything about this? Except, maybe, talk about it for a day?

Baa....... Baa....... Baaaaaaaa!

The shepherds have been bought by the wolves and the wolves are preparing to dine.......

.
Has our government been taking lessons from the recently late Kim Jong Il or something? WTH?????

Following. Thank you. Love.
I hope you regain your Dude again soon. Wishing you much happiness and peace today and throughout the new year, my Friend.♥
I would love to see Open Salon post something about this on the home page. The silence by many media on the issues surrounding SOPA and PIPA is embarrassing.
