Life without Mubarak. A bowl of cherries?
I was thinking about writing something that would put a good spin on 2011. But, for the life of me, I can't find it. Sure, we had small things, like "man pulls baby from burning house", or "dog rescued from freezing river", but that happens all the time. Just rewind every year, and you have those types of things. But, as far as benefiting mankind, all I see is death and disease, and it only gets worse.
Even when you throw in the Arab uprising, the only picture I see, and can't get out of my mind, is Qaddafi being dragged around and murdered. Sure, he deserved it, but I don't have to see it. We are a civilized people, and just because he was murderous pond-scum, does not mean we have to put on a bathing suit and jump in the pond with him. Look at Egypt. It was a great day when Mubarak was forced from office, but now you have their military dragging women through the streets and beating them. That picture, to me, summed up the whole year.
I guess Andy Rooney lead the, "list of the dead", but really, he was 189, was anyone surprised? Amy Winehouse was 27, the age that many rock stars have died, and people think it's strange. But, and I could be wrong, you could probably go back and find just as many died at 28, or 26, it's coincidental at best. I hate that Jack Kevorkian died. I feel he had a real future ahead of him. Jack LaLanne, the exercise guru, finally bit the dust at 96. I'm starting to feel ill. Elizabeth Taylor. 'Nuff said.
I went to Goggle movies and music, but there was a big warning sign, like this one.
I guess that means that the year was shit, as far as great music or movies were concerned. Movies. They are either putting out animated crap, re-do's, like Die Hard 73, or Super Hero movies. (The Green Lantern?) Music? It' was old farts, that were old when I was a kid, making all the money at concerts, and new music? Lady Gaga. "Nuff said.
I wanted so much for President Obama to succeed this year. It was one of the highlights of my life, as I'm sure it was for millions of others, when this man was sworn in as president of the United States. I wrote a piece about it, that I could barely type, from the tears in my eyes. My God, what happened? George Bush? Barack Obama? The only difference is the color of the man. The philosophical differences, while Obama can charm a wooden snake, is nil. He has killed thousands of innocent people with drones and missile attacks, with the same intelligence that told us there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
When did this country start to indiscriminately assassinate anyone we please, at any time we please, anywhere in the world, we please? I'm not Googling this, but I think it was President Ford that outlawed this nation, from using assassination for any reason. But, we shouldn't have to have a law, to tell us that. We are the United States of America. We, are supposed to be "better", than the rest of the world, when it comes to the rights of man. This is wrong, and I am ashamed of this president for thinking he is God.
We fought for our rights, and one of those rights was the right to demonstrate, peacefully. When I first saw the picture of the woman in the photo, at the top of this page, I thought it was a woman in this country. Maybe Oakland. I had to read further to see that she was from Egypt. After 9-11, billions of dollars were spent on added security for this nation. What I did not know, was that police departments around this country were not buying bomb sniffing dogs and equipment to stop another terrorist attack. They were buying the newest and latest crowd control weapons.
What the hell does this have to do with terrorism? What the hell does this have to do with anything, but politicians using taxpayer money to pay companies like Blackwater and Halliburton to build shit like this.
This my friends, is what this country is coming down to. This, this, whatevertherthellitis, is our kids future. The next time they lay off a good teacher in your district, remember, that one of "whatevertherthellitis" could have probably had paid her salary for a year. I am done. So, how was your 2011? Happy fucking New Year!

So, I'll settle for saying Happy fucking New Year to you, too Scanman, and watch out for that "whatevertherthellitis"!
Rated for the Johnny Cash clip and your righteous anger.
Thanks for the comments, I'm headin' to the Flea Market, to find me a deal on something. Maybe this year won't be a total waste. Happy New Year everybody~~

Now, the real question is are we men or mice? We have let our nation deteriorate to the point where it will take violence to fix it.
Why should I have to worry that my son, when he is old enough to drive, will take a wrong exit and wind up in a part of town where he will be beaten or killed by a third world savage we let into the country because we are too politically correct (and want votes) to get rid of them?
I used to favor a capitalist system, but, when six of the wealthiest people in America have as much money as the bottom THIRD of the U.S. population, then we have a problem.
There was a time when even the most far left or far right had some basic standards of decency and morality. Those days are gone. Greed and selfishness are what America runs on.
Bottom line...............are we men or sheep? Many of you find my views on certain issues abhorrent, but I will fight alongside those of you who understand why we NEED to fight. Our children and our future demand nothing less. I just wish it was left to somebody else to do the fighting------------it isn't, so we must man up.
HAPPY NEW YEAR
HUGGGGGGGG
Thank goodness for the little things in life that make you keep on keepin' on. Children's future.
Johnny Cash is the best ever. I love how complex and faulted he was, and how he transcended it with love, work, and talent. Maybe this is the message for 2012: despite our failings, let's focus all our efforts on what we do right. With laser focus, lets do a handful of things right in 2012.
We have to start somewhere.
Happy 2012.
And here is a sincere wish for a better 2012. Cheers!
And, you are right- no good movies or books that I can recall. And, I'd bet that is more a product of the gatekeepers keeping good stuff than due to there being no good books or movies being made.
Amazingly true-- that picture could easily be from our "better" country in 2011.
Fabulous post, Scanner. I'm hoping for more righteous indignation in 2012. As you so wisely said, " I'm mad as hell and I"m taking it up the ass." Man, I loved that.
Oh you know the cycle...it was ugly this year, but next year, well, it's going to be great. Accentuate the positive...
I love Maureen's comment...and Johnny Cash.
Ring of Fire!
Happy New Year's to you and yours, scanner!
these are of archetypal
importance, old boy.
obama is an example of what we love best:
a great man laid low, made to be base & ugly,
then
redemption.

The philosophical differences, while Obama can charm a wooden snake, is nil..
so true, scan.
obama says we must proceed with utmost prudence.

I'll try to hold on to my sanity for another year. You do, too.

That's because the next attact will not be from terrorists, my friend. They are afraid of their own citizens as the latter catch unto their schemes and says: "We're mad as Hell, and We won't take this anymore!"

It is New Year's Eve and I do wish for better tomorrows for all of us.
The ether feels a tad odd this evening ;).
Rated for we wait, we watch.
If you don't have the guts to cut your own weeds, say good-bye to the Garden of Eden you could have had.
The US government has supplied police departments around the country with FIVE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS worth of military ordnance recently. Much of it drones and tanks. I wonder what that's for.......
(*Yeah. That's my guess too*)
