Sometimes...,

Rate: 41 Flag

Sometimes, I feel we as a civilized world are on the verge of anarchy and if we don't stop and take a moment to think about what we are doing to this planet and the people of the world, we won't have to worry about our children's inheritance. There will be nothing left that is worth anything. Look around. What have we done? What are we doing?

This thing in Syria is awful. They are killing children on live TV. Syria's leader, Bashar al-Asada is a cruel son-of-a bitch, just like his father. He is committing genocide by indiscriminately bombing the city of Homs along with other places. They bomb helter-skelter and death falls where it may. It's terrible and his father did the same thing. But what this nim-rod doesn't realize or refuses to take into account, a lot like Qaddafi, is that the Internet has changed the world. The slaughtering of innocents that his father got away with was not shown in real time. All this killing, just to keep his family in power. Sometimes..,

Everything about Whitney Huston has been written. I have only one thing to add. Sometimes.., people who do not have addictive personalities think "why don't they just stop?" I do not know how she died, but I hope it wasn't from drugs and I have my suspicions like millions of other people. But people with addictive personalities, and I am one, cannot just stop. Your world may be around your ankles, but in your mind it will get better if you take another hit or have another drink. Please, try and not judge her by her past, it doesn't help her or her family or us. Fuck TMZ.

What IS pissing me off is the high price of gas. A mullah in Iran threatens to close the Straight of Hormuz, but we have an abundance of gas. So why it is going up faster than at anytime in history? When Obama came into office, gas was about $3.50 a gal. Today, the cheapest gas around here is also about $3.50 a gal and there's a chance that the U.S. average tops $4 a gallon by June, with some parts of the country approaching $5 a gallon."Why? Because speculators stand in a room all day and every time they hear a mullah fart, they up the price? Sometimes..,

Iran will never close the Straight of Hormuz. A great deal of the world's oil is shipped through there everyday. These men, or monsters, aren't stupid and are just like Assad. They love their luxuries that power can bring. These murderers don't need money, power takes care of their every whim. I laugh every time I see the guy in the Members Only jacket, Ahmadinejad, making a speech. One word from the top mullah and he's plowing sandpits at the hind-end of a fucking camel.  Sometimes..,

I can't for the life of me figure out this Greek, European bail-out that is taking place, again, as they seem to do every three months.  People, mostly kids I see on TV, want all the entitlements their parents had, yet the government cannot pay them. They are broke from not producing anything, yet expect a 30-hour work week and free medical and early retirement. I think (I have not Googled this) that tourism is their biggest commodity. I'm as liberal as the next guy, but people have to work to pay taxes if they want help from the government. I'm not saying it's their fault they aren't working, but to riot and burn down small shops that do produce and pay taxes has to be counter-productive.  Sometimes.., I just don't know anymore!

I find that sometimes I have to just stop watching the news for a bit and reboot. Or recharge.
Scanner, it is really mind boggling to contemplate the things that have been going on around the world. The huge population of the earth is truly of immense concern...the resources are finite but the number of people tapping into the resources keeps growing. For anyone who can figure out creative solutions to the many problems a type of hero status could certainly be bestowed upon that individual!
j, me too. I haven't been around much this week, my heart just isn't in it. I hate watching the news, hate it!
D, they would be "King of the World", but still the conservatives would bitch, hah!
Every day a quarter of a million people die around the world and they get little or no attention. The oppression in Syria does get some attention,as it should, but it isn't nearly enough and it sin't designed to focus on solutions.

Whitney gets obsessional coverage with virtually no productive content. I don't mean any disrespect to her and I do like her music and her acting in the Bodyguard; but by focusing on causes of the problems that affect millions we could implement massive improvements.

We don't do this.

It might interfere with the profits of the corporations.
I stopped watching the news but I can still hear the strains of the Sex Pistols music coming on..
Its scary
HUGGGGGGGGGGGG
Yes, I quit watching the news. You hear enough of what is going on just on OS or the little blurbs on my Google home page. That is plenty. The world has always been burning. You just have to make your little corner of it work. Sometimes that is a very small corner.
Yeah well, don't look to me for explanations, for God's sake!
Or CNN.
They are asking how Romney can prove he is "dog's best friend".
Am i seeing this right ? yes i am..
A police chief in my state got pinched for 26,000 child porn images.
A teacher in town got nabbed for sexual fondling &
he had naked pictures on his computer
that his "victim" sent him..

Don't we have any rocket scientists here on OS
who could build us a , well, a rocket ship
so we sane folks could set out for Andromeda?
Get the hell away from this place?
I don't know either, scanner. The so-called "news" depresses me beyond belief. Whitney Houston's untimely death is a tragedy, but you know the coverage of her coffin, funeral, etc. will be non-stop all week. Is that "real" news? No. Sorry to blather here.
I can't watch the news lately, I just wanna go around and smack these people in the face.

Sometimes...sometimes I think we are in the midst of an historic world meltdown, an event from which humanity will never recover. Sometimes, I cry.

You're right, it makes no sense to destroy small shops or property at all. As far as killing children, whether it's by violent madmen, or with starving and lack of care from situations created by investors or speculators. Either way it's pure evil.

The world is indeed watching and until now many have not understood. I'm hopeful that eventually those who destroy others for power or profit will be disposed of in some efficient way. History has seen all this before but maybe this time it will be different. It will be a shame if it takes total collapse.
Exactly! Sometimes it makes you wonder WTF is going on?

Eh, your not an idiot. I was wondering myself, the other day, what Greece exports besides people. It's a huge vacation land for Europe, but with everyone tightening their belts, and a few years of bad climate and forest fires, not so much. Italy and Spain are not far behind.
The situation in Syria has been going on a long time, just more recently got worse and got our attention. It will have to fall, and sadly will take down a lot of people with it. If only we could get Iran to take them out. :) It's easier to justify killing and price gouging when we think there is scarcity. There isn't any scarcity, just a belief there is.
Sometimes I feel nothing. That's rather sad of me.
The only thing I can say about the Greeks and the EU is that they're doing exactly what we are doing when we spend all our monies on bailouts and live each and every day without saving a single cent, it should be expected that we'll resort to violence when we run out of resources.

Think it's bad now? Wait 'til we run out of food and water.
Why is the price of gas so high? Because it is--because the oil companies can charge that much--the buttheads.
Straits of Hormuz--so far Iran has always shown that they ain't stupid, but who knows. All it takes is one of those "kamikaze" boats to hit one tanker in the middle of the straits and that's all she wrote. And then what would we do? Piss and moan and shake our fingers at the naughty mullahs? Probably.
Like you I'm tired of it. And like you, I feel powerless to do anything about the insanity--I got my own crap to deal with.
Great rant. I feel like you. Ugh, I last felt this way when there were supposedly weapons of mass destruction and Rove and Bush were cooking up war. Month after month, day after day, we all said no and they did it anyway and it f-cked us up so much here that I have to wonder what else could we have done to stop it. A soldier told me the other day that it was us that let it happen. I am weary. I don't think it was us, I think it was them.....
You're not the idiot, Scanner, the world is. All our values have gone awry.
"Don't believe everything you read in the papers."

The media have changed, and the distortions have increased. And you didn't even include the GOPsters!
Here's a tongue in cheek theory- it's because the lazy people have been allowed to breed and pass their genetic propensity towards getting something for nothing on and, over time, their offspring have taken over the world. Shysters and marks. That's all that's left. Outliers stand here and say WTF, but we're outnumbered.
Amen on compassion for addictive personalities and the high price of gas.
You're not alone in your confusion about our crazy world! I think all of us are right there with you. They showed a video of a row of injured, shell-shocked children sitting in Syria and I swear they looked exactly like the children of one of my best friends. My son and I were shocked looking at them. They could have been American kids. It's so damned sad. What can we do?
Putin is already gone on record warning America to stay out of Syria, so what you are seeing on TV in Syria is just a prelude of far worse things to come should we try to intervene there. Do you think the Russian military can be walked on? Take a look at what happened in Georgia when America and its Golem Israel tried.
You're far from being an idiot. Just frustrated like the rest of us because of all the evil in the world. r
There are times when it really does seem hopeless . . . [r]
Yeah, Scanner. I hear you.
All you need to do is "Like" George Takei on Facebook, and you will feel better in the moning, I promise. That man is a wellspring of positive energy.
You hit the nails on a lot of heads here, Scanner. Why can't the international community stop this in Syria? And more.
Sometimes I'm glad I'm not a young woman just starting out in life. The world is too unstable.
I agree with the opening paragraph, completely. This world makes me sick sometimes... and it's very rarely that someone does something I approve of.
The mind boggles. I wouldn't put Whitney's death up there on the same level as the tragedy in Syria.
Ditto...mumble, mumble, mumble...Amen!
Let's just say that the big money--the President and the Congress do not make any big decisions--in America is trying to topple any regime that does not support "free enterprise." I am with Jack Heart, I would like very much to see how are we going to change the regime in Syria.

As for Iran, years ago when some maliciously spread a rumor that the Saudis were going to raise the price of oil, a Saudi official said this: "This is not true, we will keep selling our oil like we always did, we are not going to drink it!" This talk about Iran is all a just-in-case-we-have-to-bomb-them thing. Your heart is in the right place, ScanMan. R
Hi Scanner. You need to check out the post I did today about the covert US war on Syria. I include a link to the Arab League Observer Mission report, which has been leaked. Nearly all of what the Obama administration is telling us about Syria is a total fabrication. Assad has been telling the world for 11 months that his country is being attacked by armed militants (I don't think they report this in the US media - but they report it here). The Arab League report clearly confirms this. What's more former FBI and CIA whistleblowers confirm that the US is training them in secret training camps in Jordan and Turkey. Check out some of my links.
PS my post is syndicated from another blog, so it may be an hour before it appears on OS.
I'm of two minds on this scanner. Sometimes I feel as you do, that the world is going to hell in a handbasket, whatever that means. But i always keep in mind my favorite Dickens quote "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...in short, it was very much like the present."

The scenes from Syria are awful but at any time in the past few decades there's been ever worse that didn't get on TV. Global warming is the one I'd worry about, though I won't live long enough to see its worst effects. The young generation then will surely have a hate on for our doing nothing while we could.
It is a crazy world and like jlsathre I find I need to unplug from the news off and on. What purpose does it serve me to know the details of this murder, that death, those rapes.... I loved Whitney Houston, for example, and I'm very sad over her death, but I don't need to know the details and I wish the media would back off the family and let them grieve and hopefully heal again. So, I guess I stand with you and say, sometimes.......
This should be read on the air. Rated.
This is my second posting of a comment (OS is eating my comments!!) I think you are seeing an insane turn of events with sane eyes. As usual, you've delivered well, Scanner. I wish I could say I see things differently but it's a sad truth. Some days are easier than others...
As Roseanne Roseannadanna used to say, "It's always somethin".

Nice rant.
You echo so many of the thoughts I have too often, that the effort to keep optimistic about our world, our country, our humanity is a struggle at best, futile at worst. Sometimes I, too, must just walk away from the 24/7 news cycle to simple breathe and concentrate on the world I can impact--my own small one.
Nicely done.
