OK. The election is over and your candidate lost. What do you do? Do you wish him well and try and work with the other side to make this country a better place, or do you do a "Mitch McConnell" and do everything in your power to screw-up everything he tries to accomplish. In other words, do you help the man you voted against try and fix all the things that are wrong with this country? Or do you join a "Down with Whoever" action committee and start now, trying to ruin him and this country because of pure fucking spite? Your choice?
I already know what the "Karl Roves" of this country are doing. Tomorrow, no matter who wins or loses, they will call in their markers. The promises they got from the winning candidate who next resides in the the White House. Money, for sure. But there are bigger things than money. Power trumps money. Anything from prime off-shore oil drilling sites to opening our national forests for logging. There are thousands of things that republican and democratic business-people want, and tomorrow they start putting the screws to the candidate they gave all those millions of dollars to. After all, do the rich give the most powerful men in the world 2 billion dollars because they are good citizens? It's time to pay up.
But what are you going to do? Are you going to write letters wailing on the man who won, that you didn't vote for, or will you stick out your hand out and try and help build this country into our so-called "American Dream"?We all know the system is corrupt, on both sides, but there has to be a sliver in the cracks somewhere for us to do some good. We cannot continue acting like spoiled brats when our candidate loses, while taking our ball and running home. It is time to share the ball and start helping this country and the future of this country, which are our children and grand-children.
What are we going to leave them? A world of drones circling over-head as they take their armored school bus to a locked-down prison they now have to attend to keep terrorists and psychotic killers from murdering them in their seats.. Do we continue being the world's police force while spending our kids future on nation building in other countries? Do we stand-by while other powers like China and Russia return to building their arsenals with state of the art weapons that they stole and copied from the trillions of dollars we spent developing then while they stand back and watch us go broke while they prosper?
No matter who wins, the other side is already getting their ducks in a row for the next local election, because as someone once said, all politics are local. You start with the local county commissioners who are just as corrupt as any other politicians but cheaper, and then county and state judges, treasurers, both local and state (always a good one) and on and on and on. It never stops. As long as a dollar can be made by bribing a politician, there will be crooked politicians. Not all politicians are crooked, but you see very few poor politicians, especially when their terms are over.
Democracy is supposed to be the best system of government ever invented. Socialist will argue and so will a few others, but communism and other failed programs have proven to be disasters. This country is a cross between democracy and socialism, no matter what they tell you in school. As long as we, as in the government, have programs that help the poor and heal the sick, we better be. But no matter what you call it, we are good people. Of course, there is an asshole in every line or foxhole, but there are also people that will give-up their place in line to a needy person and people that will give-up their lives for a buddy in a foxhole. We are good people.
So, what's next my friends? In my heart, I want President Obama to win. He is not the best of two evils, because neither man is evil. But they are also not saints and I can't even fathom the deals they had to make to get elected. But that is all above my pay-grade. I don't know and I don't want to know how the sausage is made. I'll just have some bacon and eggs and a cup of coffee and greet my friends and neighbors, no matter who they voted for, with a "Good morning to you" and go about my day. I am a very little fish in a very little pond and I like it that way. Leave the politics to the big boys, I just want to dance. Tango, anyone?
Door To Decision
We come from a turbulent past
To an info-age moving way to fast
The fate of these lands
Is now placed in our hands
Will we bring destruction to an end
Will we have the power to mend
Save this fragile dreamland
Wash away our footprints in the sand
Global warming is causing weather changes right before our eyes
But we still blacken our skies
Sunrays take less time to burn our faces
But we still destroy our rain forests and just leave empty spaces
The men spill out of the factories everywhere
Punching their time clocks basically unaware
Don't realize what's happening to the big picture
The massive devastation of the atmospheric mixture
Every day go through their daily motions
Waiting it out for measly promotions
Distant stares and silent prayers
Monday to Friday . . . say goodbye
Our oceans are slicked with oil spills
Our waterways full of toxic waste that kills
We build our cities on mountains of pollution
Without an environmental solution
We live our lives in search of wealth
In the process damage our good health
Crime stories are found on every newspaper page
People loosing control in an uncertain age
The victims of greed are getting younger
In a world that still allows their hunger
Our petty problems make us hang down our heads
While million's go unfed
Desire unfolds the light of our day
But we cannot give in to the subtle decay
We must rise above the haze descending
Toward mass action mending
We must take control of our actions today
or the children of tomorrow will be the one's to pay
The new innkeepers shall soon take charge
of the next generations voyage at large
Trends are patterned and patterns trended
But man's damage must be ended!

They might accuse us of taking our ball and going home mad but it will be them that is continuing to screw it up and using their propaganda machine to blame us.
A cross between democracy and socialism? That's a little like saying a house is a cross between brick and split-level. You're describing two different things. Not much socialism here - socialism is state ownership of industry, not taking care of people. The argument about socialism might be what we did for GM and Chrysler but, in that case, the whole point was to re-privatize them.
If Obama wins, God willing and statistically likely, he'll be lame duck anyway. McConnell won't have to worry about his re-election because it will be impossible. That might free him up. After all, I don't think they're afraid of Biden running for President in four years, so they won't have to screw up the administration. Doesn't mean they won't.

I apologize if this multiple-posts. The Post This Comment switch doesn't look like it works the first time, so we try again.

Thank you, scanner.
We may have Romneyitis the next 24 hours.
Oh, I hate this waiting!

Kosh, I may have misphrased the democracy, socialism sentence. My meaning was mainly the hospitals that keep our health care system working, when it works. It is a federal law that no one can be turned away from a hospital, money or no money. But, they get bare bones treatment, some aspirin or whatever, a prescription they can't fill and an appointment with a doctor that the can't afford to go to. But, according to Romney, that is good health insurance. What bullshit!

And just a heads up.. McConnell has his eye on a future prize, that's going to inform every move he makes for the next four years..
Rated for one small step.. the giant leap is yet to come.
I agree with your description of the flawed system of governance that exists. I also agree with hopes.
It will certainly be a unhill battle to overcome(overthrow) self- serving politicians, parties and lobby groups, but the people deserve it.
