More Important Matters

Rate: 32 Flag
Although he was singing about struggles in Angola and Mozambique, South Africa, these words sung by Bob Marley are universal and apply to neighbourhoods everywhere.

"Until the philosophy which hold one race
Superior and another inferior
Is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned
Everywhere is war, me say war

That until there are no longer first class
And second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man's skin
Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes
Me say war

That until the basic human rights are equally
Guaranteed to all, without regard to race
Dis a war

That until that day
The dream of lasting peace, world citizenship
Rule of international morality
Will remain in but a fleeting illusion
To be persued, but never attained
Now everywhere is war, war" - Haile Selassie

Peace, Scarlett.

Sympathies re the dental work.

Yup, mid-July weather here too for a couple of days.
Plants a month ahead of schedule. Maple syrup season a bust. No frost in forecast yet, but it's likely...
Myriad, No sympathy required but a pagan prayer might help.
Thanks. :)
This post covered three subjects and after re-reading it, I decided to cut the personal stuff and leave what matters most at this time.
I thought I was going crazy...you must have updated it right in the middle of my reading. When I wnet back to pick up where I left off, it was gone. Yes, Marley said it best. Peace Scarlett.
Sorry about that Tril. While explaining my MIA status, I re-thought the writing and felt my dental drama trivialized the last part here. So, it begins and end with Bob. Another day, I'll post the other. Thanks for being here.
Now I am curious about the personal stuff. But I know how you feel and glad you got this message out. Marley knows.
Yes.

Rated for a man far from just simple.
Looking forward to the dental work story. The personal is political, I've heard.
We should be at war, in some peaceful way, but we are not. We all have been lulled into a terrible complacency ,but so it goes.
Marley singing Hailie Selassie's words, I never realized where the lyric camefrom.
I missed the part about the dental work, but the Peace part is great!
Peace would be nice, and some maple syrup with my pancakes would be better!! ~nod~ :)

Rated!
He covers it pretty well. Short life for a man who spoke (and still does)to so many.
Scarlett ~ in a recent national survey more dentists recommended Bob Marley's music over Crest toothpaste!
yes, what marley sang. yes.
Well, folks it started out something like this:

"I have been mostly MIA this week due to some unexpected oral (dental sounds much better doesn't it?) surgery. Don't worry, this isn't a call for sympathy and I won't go into details; you don't want to know. Heck, I don't even want to know."

Yes, Zanelle I agree ... wherever he is Marley knows.

Seer: Yes, Like you. :)

fernsy: There's a war going on and will be, "until the philosophy which hold one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned." But I know what you mean about complacency. The warrior spirit needs to rise up from behind the computers ...

jmac: If recall correctly that song was on the Rastaman Vibration album. It had the words from Selassie's speech which I read over and over. It also had the texture of burlap which was good for, well, you know ... (or at least I think you'd know). ;)

scanner: Thankfully, I didn't go into details. I gotta get over there and read your rainbow ...

Tink: How about maple syrup on your pancakes AND peace in our lifetime. Not bloody likely, so okay, pancakes, it is!!

Marty'sHusband: Yes, I think so too. Thanks for sharing the tune, never grows old.

Designanator: Ha. I wish it was that easy.
If you hear "No Woman No Cry" playing at the dentist office.
Ask for the Nitrous Oxide!
An absolute Truth.

Thank you for the post.
Candace: There is something so life-affirming about saying "Yes" and really meaning it. Yes!

Larry: Good one! As emotional a person I can be at times, there is no way that dentist is going to see me cry. The oral surgeon, however, is not so gentle with his needles ... he might yet.

Bleue: I've had the song playing in my head all week so I thought I might as well post it. My one sentence post doesn't deserve the credit; the song says it all. Thanks.
one love, Scarlett ~

...ask for the nitrous oxide regardless...
Add my sympathies to the list regarding the dental work.

Bob Marley is the answer to so many needs. Thanks.
So sorry about the toothies! I hope that you are healing well. The Marley is perfect for these times. Fernsey said it about our complacency, but we are chomping our way out of that. (ooops...pun intended!) get plenty of rest!
The beat goes on, doesn't it, Scarlett" Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Every time I see your name I am reminded of when I was a guidance counselor at Scarlett Junior High School.
Thanks for the BM this morning. His words and thoughts will always be evidence of faith and more in the soul of justice.
Thanks for the Bob Marley, Scarlett. Some of the comments mentioned your dental work, or the dentist. Do I play this backwards to get the hidden dental message?
~r
Ah, I should read all comments more thoroughly. I see you deleted the dentist story. Loved Larry's comment anyway.
As much as I love Bob Marley, my nebby nose wants to know about the dentist. Hope all is well with numbers 1-32.
Read this morning on The Globe website that white supremacists in Edmonton were routed by counter-protesters who chased the miserable shits into a subway station and out of the downtown. Even in conservative Alberta, they won't tolerate such crap. Oh, Canada.

"Come and sing a simple song of freedom,
Sing it like you've never sung before...."

Pace.
Bo, Yes, I saw that too. I read a similar thing (with a smaller gathering) happened in London, ON. Peace, brother.

green: Glad to share Bob w/ you. Well number 26 is completely gone but there's been something festering where the implant surgery (for the new tooth) was done putting me back to the beginning, with a swollen face to boot. I'm revisiting a chipmunk like visage but with the temperament of a wolverine.

Joan: Your second comment was funny. Yes, read above for hidden dental message. ;)

Algis: Yes, soul of justice ...that's a good way to put it.

John ABayer: I hope Scarlett, your guidance counselor, lead you in the right direction. :)

zuma: Thanks for all your consciousness raising around here. I witnessed it this week -- but mostly from my bed.

Mary: Thanks. I hope the next song for all is " Don't worry 'bout a thing ... Every little things gonna be all right."

catch-22: Yes, One Love. And a hit of Nitrous Oxide, if necessary.
Still a strong, powerful track ... and hopefully, you have strong, powerful meds to offset the dentalwork ....
listen to Marley in the dental chair - good advice, Leepin'
Trayvon Martin's death is the purist evidence that we are not post-racial. And a wake-up call for those who naively thought we were. (The comments hint at your dental work. Ouch. Wishing you lots of good music and good painkillers as you heal.)
I do not believe in violence, though again it has taken all of us,
until there is not a next time.
The dental work can wait...nice write on Marley and peace.
Dental work can ALWAYS wait! :)
Various: Hey, how are you? Yes, a strong powerful track. No powerfuls meds of that nature (they're certainly not doling those out these days) around here anyways. I asked ...

Damon: I don't think reggae is on the radar but I'll request Marley when I go back this week. :) Last time I was in the chair they were playing, well, something indistinguishable to my ears anyhow...

Belle: I agree. And thanks.

JP: I don't believe in violence either even if I do FEEL like a wolverine!
"The dream of lasting peace" - we should be closer to it than when these words were written but sometimes it seems like more of an illusion than ever. I hope your dental drama is a distant memory soon.
Bob is universal. Told to me by a cabbie in Italy while playing Bob.Nicely done Scarlett.
Sorry for missing this.
Oddly enough, your personal dental story would NOT
have trivialized this.
You would have found support and good wishes
(especially from me, one who knows!)
and this would have been a bit of
good karma in a world that
can use all it can get.

We OSers care about each other.
It's a tiny little microcosm, sure, but everything ,
paradoxically, is becoming smaller, more local, as the world
"seems" to get bigger and bigger. The world is getting bigger
only because now we finally KNOW what is going on.
So that when bad , unacceptable stuff happens in
some neighborhood somewhere, we ALL know
about it, quicky wicky. That is a first step.
To see the problem. Now to fix it.

The day WILL come when we realize we are one species.
But we humans are drama queens, so it'll probably
take something semi-terrible, sad to say.
I just hope it's not all THAT horrible.
James, No need to apologize. I'm not keeping score that way, my friend. This was more about sharing this music than anything. I only wrote 1 sentence.

Yes, Rita: Bob is universal. Thankfully.

JD: I wish it could wait ... forever! Thanks for stopping by.

Margaret: No kidding! And yes ... me too.
alot of the most brilliant people ever
had no teeth!
or very few.

einstein? they all fell out when he made his great discovery.
(Gravity enacted its revenge for being figured out!)

i read in an undisclosed publication
that robert redford is a denture boy. like me.

if it's not true, do not tell me.

war? good god.
so many wars. on cancer, aids, breast cancer, drugs, intolerance,
racism, did i say drugs?, women, men, homosexuals, bisexuals,
we
gotta somehow put all these wars together.
we need an einstein to see their relativity!
Peace to us all (and tranquility to your mouth).
