Scoubidou's "Paintin' Place"

Rate: 17 Flag

Some of you have PM'd me about the large (40 x 60") paintings seen in an earlier post. Yes, when I'm a-not pimping my writing, I pimp my paintings! I paint in a style sometimes called "California Surrealism" (because of its early West Coast associations) or "Pop Surrealism"...the style relies on cartoony exaggeration and pulp-cover memes, with an unhealthy heap of surfisme, tikiness, 60s design, and B-movie burble.

The quality of the photos aren't topnotch--between shooting something so large to so small, kicking the file down to manageability, and dealing with glare and parallax, the finer strokes get lost and the color kind of blobs indistinctly. But you get the idea...mmmwell, maybe...

As if it's not enough that you write exquisitely, you also paint really well. I think I love you. I'm pming you. Check your inbox shortly.
I really like these - would love to see you doing mural work in that style, very bold!
"Mars is Heaven" reminds me of Killer Klowns from Outer Space, which is a compliment. Really.
Did you make a deal with the devil or what? I already thought you were gifted with preternatural writing skills, and now this way cool art. Got any thoughts on the unified field theory you want to share?
Nice work, Scoubi. Thanks for sharing. Did you do Emmaus? If so, where? I'm curious.
Do you work on commission!? :-O These are AWESOME!
Nice work, thanks.
The green monster in "3-D" reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode.

You're an awesome painter Scoubi. And what do you mean, UNhealthy doses of tikiness, 60s design, and B-movie burble? Is there such a thing as too much surfisme? I think not.
Everyone is so talented here. I wish I could measure up. Rated.
I don't enjoy comparing painters as I think it's a bit unfair, but I own a few Markus Pierson pieces and I cant help but to see the connection.

I want prototype btw.
Cripe. I can't do anything and you can write AND effin' paint.

Well, damn good for you.

And us.
wow, i love the colors you use!! a bit dark for me but fabulous. love love love and grattitude for sharing your huge talent with us.
"Cripe. I can't do anything and you can write AND effin' paint"

I know, I can't stand him either ;)
I had no idea you were a painter. These are marvelous.
Sweet! I love il diablo.
its funny but while our styles are different (but harmonious) we use the same family of colors. our paintings could share a wall peacefully.
Thanks all, as usual I ended up tied up and couldn't get comment 1:1, but I appreciate everybody's look-see and words. And yes, this stuff really is for sale. But I have no idea how I would ship something 40 x 60 around the country. I'm working on it.

And no, really, you can never have too much surfisme.
