Goodbye to a very special young lady. Tears came flowing out of my eyes today when I dropped off my daughter's friend at the bustop to live at a shelter in Miami. She has been our neighbor and a part of our family for over 7 years. She is now 17 and the feuding at her home was so bad, she's been living on the streets and at my house for the past 2 months. I didn't know how bad it was til this past weekend. Other than saying the family threw her bed out in the alley, I won't go into details, but I ask if you would please keep Tiana in your prayers. She needs two more years of high school and is determined to graduate. The shelter will help her and also help her get her social security number. Her family never followed up for her. I am sad and glad for her at the same time. Sad because I didn't hug her when I left her at the busstop, but I did say "I love you," because for the first time I realized that I loved her like my own daughter. I just wish I hugged her because I don't know when we'll see her again. I'm glad for her because I think now, with the help of this program, she will become the great woman I know she will be.

I know I bitch and rant about my kids and all their friends, but when push comes to shove, I really don't know how I could survive without them.
I wish you all the best, Tiana, and I know you will make it.
I miss you already.

Excellent, but heartbreaking piece.
I'm sure you have made a huge difference in her life--even if you can't see it quite yet.
It's only been one day, but so far Tiana is doing well. She has a curfew, she sleeps in the bottom bunk, there is a nurse on hand (did I tell you she was diabetic?) and they are helping her get back in school to graduate. Best of all, she is happy! Your prayers are being heard! Thank you all!
It´s great that you have been there to help this Tiara: she is a very brave, lively little angel.
Kisses,
Marcela
